Fully functional Beauty and the Beast LEGO music box
It’s not uncommon for us to use trite phrases in the title of our posts, but this time we mean it literally. Check out this microsized vignette by edulyoung from the ballroom scene of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The vignette also functions as a real-working music box, in which components from an actual music box where modified to fit with LEGO parts. Check out how it all works in the gallery on Brickshelf.

Felix is back, and he’s building castle
Long time spacer, turned sculptor, turned non-builder, Felix Greco has returned to the brick, and now he’s building castle creations. He’s built a cute little cottage, with some stone work that I think adds a nice touch of realism. I’m also a fan of the way he made the lattice windows on the first floor. The fact that it’s home to the “ice cream knocker over-er” just adds to my delight.

This funky barnyard scene by Jordan Schwartz cracked me up. Interesting build, as we’ve come to expect from Jordan. I like that egg!
Bugge’s Better Box
Niels Bugge has built a very interesting creation for SciLug’s small starfighter contest. The contest requires the starfighter to fit within a small box when landed. Many entrants tried to deal with this restriction by making a craft with folding wings or a rotating engines, but Niels pushed these techniques to a new level. His craft folds into a box shape which barely fits into the space limitation, but when unfolded, you would never know that it had been a box. This creation is an excellent starfighter, regardless of its ability to fold into a small space. Better, still, Niels has provided some instructions, which can be found on his instructions page, here.

Christoph Niemann’s LEGO New York
What can you do with basic LEGO bricks and a little imagination? Artist Christoph Niemann posted a series of pictures on Abstract City, his New York Times blog, that reminds us that LEGO isn’t just about knowing complex building techniques and having all the latest elements.

Steven Walker figured out what to do with all those extra battle droid arms that were laying around. Build a bike! I’ve never seen anything quite like this…definitely an eye-catcher!
Willys MB Jeep Ambulance
David Luna has outfitted his medics with a jeep modified to carry stretchers. I hadn’t ever seen one of these before, they really did exist!
He’s done an excellent job on this recreation. I’m really liking how he used the all-purpose BrickArms monopods on the stretcher racks.
