We’re fast approaching All Hallows’ Eve at the end of the month, and the volume of ghoulish LEGO builds hitting the internet is reaching a feverish pace. Expert character builder Trevor Pearson-Jones is ready for the scary holiday with this excellent take on the Crypt Keeper from the Tales of the Crypt TV show. Apart from the haunting visage in lime green, I adore the light gray lettering on the ghoul’s tome.

Adventures in Gingerbread City
I know we haven’t hit Halloween yet, but when someone decides to mix a Christmas classic with an existing LEGO theme, it tends to stand out regardless of the time of year. Displaying the Modular theme in cookie form, poMOCník & dirigent provides a lovely row of townhouses baked with plenty of spice and architectural forms. With so many great techniques on display, my favorite has got to be the columns of minifigure legs used to bend the front wall out under the balcony.
The Adhara adheres to a Saturn V color scheme
Every SHIPtember, so many LEGO builders make a Seriously Huge Investment in Parts to turn out some truly spectacular spaceship-ery. And the Adhara by Tim Zarki is such a sterling representation of what these builds can bring. Clad in a grayscale color scheme, this SHIP is designed for long-range flights running on dual antimatter reactors. And clocking in at 118 studs in length, it features a number of wonderful techniques. I’m particularly fond of Tim’s use of the open Technic pin hole, adding important texture to dark gray panels throughout the creation.
Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise as to win a prize
Despite the words of Obi-Wan, I doubt either of these LEGO Stormtroopers are going to be taking home a stuffed Wookiee doll in this Star Wars arcade game by Joel Short. Named TIE Ace, the goal is to no doubt blast as many Rebel Scum out of the sky in two minutes. But hopefully this pair doesn’t spend all their money seeking one of the prizes hanging from the top of the stall. I think they may have better luck at “Whack-a-Womp Rat” over by the Fett-is wheel.
Psyduck Pokémon built from a lionized LEGO set
We’ve already looked at one alternate build of LEGO set 43247 Young Simba the Lion King, but how about we look at another, this time of the Pokémon variety? Builder The Frenchy Bricks has assembled the bright yellow-orange parts of our favorite Disney lion into quite the expressive Psyduck. With posable limbs and the perfect thousand-mile stare, here’s hoping it’s no headache to recreate my own copy.
Horsin’ around when LEGO meets Bojack Horseman
Will Arnett has plenty of credits in the LEGO-verse, from voicing LEGO Batman in several movies to hosting the US version of LEGO Masters. But Trevor Pearson-Jones wants to celebrate a different one of Arnett’s characters with this excellent take on Bojack Horseman. Heavily inspired by the set 31140 Magical Unicorn, the creature of majesty and dreams is replaced instead with a washed-up TV star/anthropomorphic horse from the 1990’s. Probably something more appropriate in the Icons theme…
It’s time to flee the great LEGO space flea
Menace and malice are the motto of Malefactor, the latest LEGO build from Scott Wilhelm. With outer plating of dark red and mouthparts and limbs clad in black, this giant parasite still appears to have some of the essentials of space travel like rear thrusters and forward battery. So is this a living creature, or a spaceship with a natural inspiration? I’d rather not get close enough to find out!
Jim’s Diner transports us back to the 1950’s
Maybe it’s all the great LEGO cars by SFH_Bricks, or maybe it’s my recent re-watch of HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon – either way, this delightful diner scene from the Space Age is really speaking to me right now. With so many bright colors, laudable lettering, and a caravan of convertibles, there’s no doubt this popular 50’s spot has the best grub in town. You can even spy a tribute to a gift-with-purchase from years ago: LEGO Ideas 40448 Vintage Car is parked on the roof of Jim’s, in all its teal glory.
