TBB’s own Simon Liu has been busy at Brickworld and these micro AT-STs were a small part of a larger Star Wars: Battlefront display. The AT-STs are delicately balanced and ingeniously built at such a small scale. The background is a microscale version of Alex Doede’s bunker.
Simon says that these are in the tiniest form he can do, but I reckon there are some nano AT-STs out there waiting to be built.
It seems that just as LEGO release LEGO Ghostbusters 75827 Firehouse Headquarters, the upcoming Ghostbusters 2016 movie features a new team of ‘ghost busting’ chicks dispatched from a new HQ building. Thankfully Eric Duron has filled the gap with this excellent LEGO rendition of the Chinese restaurant building re-styled for the movie. I love the Chinatown styling especially since Eric has accomplished a great bit of LEGO lettering over the restaurant entrance.
The addition of some ‘ghost busting’ action on the roof is a lovely touch. I can’t explain why my favourite parts are the various air vents over the garage.
Tyler Halliwell is a guy who knows definitely knows his way around a bust! Renowned in the LEGO community for his amazing bust creations, Tyler’s latest character is Thanos together with the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos is a Marvel Character who appeared in both The Thanos Quest and The Infinity Gauntlet series of Marvel Comics back in the 1990s. As a Marvel ‘baddie’, Thanos’ character has been depicted in the brick build featuring an evil grin and penetrating stare. Tyler used Lifelites (micro LEDs suitable for use with LEGO) to add a little more bling to the Infinity Gems.

Chopper bikes were instantly popularized around the world following the 1969 film Easy Rider and this LEGO chopper motorcycle by Martin Redfern is a lovely example. One of the features of this particular build is the sparing use of technic parts. Instead, Martin has chosen to create brick built features. For example, those over-sized wheels have been painstakingly built using 1×1 round plates radiating out from an octagonal bar frame part.
The shapely brown leather seat is best seen from above, this angle also allows the drive chain to be seen in all its functional glory. There are some great parts utilised throughout the build but little touches like the pearl gold gas tank cap and the pith helmets really make this model shine.
As one of the most popular LEGO themes ever, Classic Space continues to be a source of inspiration for builders even to this day. This all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and various accoutrements is a lovely space scene created by SweStar. The ATV is quirky and utilises a more unusual part for the trans-yellow cockpit windshield, the x-pod barrel. Although I love the vehicle, my favourite part of the build are those little crates stacked on the left hand side. I wonder if they are for the collection of alien life-form specimens?
A closer look at the ATV confirms that it is definitely a more unconventional vehicle with its use of technic rotation joints for suspension and ingenious brick-built wheels.
Sometimes LEGO construction workers need to move large amounts of soil and dirt during the early stages of a new project, but fear not, Devid VII has built a lovely yellow excavator to do the job. This tracked vehicle is well shaped and sized for it’s minifigure operators. I particularly like the fact that it is completely built in bricks rather than utilising one of the ‘scoop’ moulds from the LEGO construction sets.
Those strings and pulleys on the excavator arm are not just for show — Devid has made his excavator functional. It just needs to find some soil to excavate now.
This fantastic Kh-1 Vulture, built by BobDeQuatre, belongs to Star Wars-inspired bounty hunter and assassin Kapan Ming. This thrusty beast is heavily armed with its two medium blasters and three linked heavy laser cannons. This craft is aesthetically pleasing; in particular, the shaping of the hull and angular wings. Not only does this starfighter have a rotating cockpit, but the three laser cannons can be adjusted to either concentrate their firepower or fire at selected targets. Phwoar.
The Kh-1 Vulture also features retractable landing gears which can be seen in touch down position in this alternative view. The adjustable cannons are also in a different position. I assume this is the resting position as the cockpit is empty and a moody looking Kapan Ming is standing outside his ship, armed and ready.
As this unfortunate little French chef has discovered, a female behind the wheel can be a scary experience especially when she is after your croissant! Gabriele Zannotti is skilled at bringing virtual LEGO creations to life and this time he has worked his digital rendering magic on a Citroën 2CV Mecabricks project by actioncharles. This Citroën 2CV is a lovely little build, but the rendering really raises it up a level with lights, action, movement and… glass refraction!
Gabriele has been featured here before for his rendering work. We covered his excellent M.C. Escher’s “Hand with Reflecting Sphere” last year. How do you feel about TBB featuring rendered work as well as ‘in the brick’ creations?
Sometimes LEGO looks good enough to eat, and this is certainly the case with Sad Brick‘s Cranberry Black Forest cake. This plastic take on the classic German desert appears to have the key ingredients of chocolate sponge, cream, kirsch, more cream and a black cherry on top. A puzzle for you: do you know which part has been used to depict the cherry?
The best part is that this cake is definitely fat-free.
The latest series of collectible minifigures from LEGO has released a wave of nostalgia as Disney characters find their way into LEGO scenes. This adorable scene by LegoJalex shows Donald Duck checking his mailbox while Neighbor Jones is in his garden taking care of his roses. The build has a great retro feel and merges LEGO bricks with cartoonish effects thanks to clever use of parts and colour choices, and some photo editing of course
Donald Duck’s car is worth a closer look, especially as it runs on ‘eco-friendly fuel’.
Fans of LEGO Classic Space (a term that refers to Space set that were released before 1987) will love this collection of space vehicles by billyburg. The Lunar Exploration Geological Outpost set includes a larger Galaxy Patroller space ship, a six-wheeled Lunar Utility Vehicle, a Lunar Surface Skimmer for mapping the lunar surface and those all important utility bots for making sandwiches and beeping adorably.
British builder Jeremy Williams is well-known for his Neo-Classic space LEGO creations. This spaceship interior has some ingenious parts use, enhanced by very skilled lighting and photography. The build was created for a ‘parts challenge’ over on parts-obsessed blog New Elementary. The door utilises a new Nexo Knights part, the 2×3 pentagonal tile, aka the shield tile. The railing at the top is also worth a closer look to see clever use of the Dementor stand (found exclusively in Harry Potter sets) as the vertical portion of the railing.
This is not a door to be squeezed through at the last minute, there could be a guillotine effect!
