Chris has been involved in many parts of the LEGO community for over twenty years, and has been building most of his life. A love of transparent bricks and pop culture combine in most of his creations, which tend to be pretty large scale. His website, Reasonably Clever, featured one of the longest running brick-based webcomics, as well as one of the first LEGO-themed avatar creators. LEGO Ideas 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures – A Boxy Gift with Purchase [Review]

Last February, LEGO Ideas ran a contest to find an “Out of this world!” space build to be turned into a gift-with-purchase. Now, just over a year later, the winning concept from Ivan Guerrero arrives in stores starting May 16th. You can claim a copy of LEGO Ideas 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures with a qualifying purchase of US $160 | CAN $160 | UK £160. This train tracks. Wait. No it doesn’t.

Sure, there are LEGO train sets on their way this summer, but if you look even further into the future you can find out that Oscar Cederwall (o0ger) has his own unique vision of how the rails will evolve. Basically, they’ll be ditching the rails in favor of hover technology. Smart move. This was a creation a year in the making, and the attention to detail really shines through.

An elegant exercise in plating built with LEGO plates

There’s just something extra sweet about these amazing chocolate (well, LEGO) confections from Jaroslaw Walter. Minimalist in their builds, they instantly evoke a $50 a plate Michelin Star dessert course. Let’s start off with some musical highlights. The treble clefs used here first appeared in Trolls sets as minifigure accessories, and the stave (the lines from the sheet music) might be from the equally soothing 10281 Bonsai Tree.

Drizzled in dark chocolate round plate, decorated with white-chocolate dipped berries made from Lion Dance eyes, this tiny cake hints at a taste of lavender from its lilac minifigure washtub base.

Have room for just one more? Might we suggest these tiny slices of heaven served on red balloon panels? Don’t forget to taste the dark-blue vine garnish.

As much as we’d like to eat all of these…probably best to recognize that LEGO bricks aren’t digestible. So don’t eat your bricks, kiddos. You’ll just regret it. And probably run up some insane hospital bills, to boot.

Look of a Warhol, texture of a Van Gogh

When LEGO launched their Art theme it included a tile-based mosaic take on the iconic Marilyn Monroe panel-art by Andy Warhol. And that was pretty cool…back then. But now artist Michelle Krüger has placed her own unique spin on this classic image, adding texture that introduces an entirely new depth to things.

Making the impossible possible

A couple of years ago, I (Brothers Brick contributor Chris Doyle ) gifted the important people in my life with Impossible Bottles – sealed decks of playing cards somehow placed inside unaltered glass bottles. Recently, prompted by a WisLUG building challenge, I decided to create my own version. It’s not quite the same scale of impressive – LEGO bricks are a lot easier to cram down the neck of a bottle, after all. But it was still a fun exercise into just what is possible if you put your mind to it.

And, of course, there’s a tiny little mosaic on the front of my deck of cards. Because sometimes you have to stay on-brand.
