Seeking the Temples of Syrinx

Hans Dendauw (tigmon77) brings us an awesome little Neo Classic Space scene this morning. The little ship is a funky shape, and has some great detailing. The walls and floor are just detailed enough, and provide room for a little reference that goes in the title of the creation. Rush on over to check out the full album.

Wiffy Metal Slug

(FLAVIO) has been building a series of characters/vehicles using the old hockey big-fig helmets. He calls them Wiffys, and this is the first I’ve spotted. It certainly won’t be the last, though, as these are adorable. The Metal Slug vibe reads perfectly for this one, and I especially like the “tiptoe” pose.

A Typical Cottage

Giorgos Solomonidis calls this build “A Typical Cottage” but I think there are a number details that really make this stand out. I love the rickety look of the fences and the ramshackle aspect of the roof really catches the eye. The color palette was well-thought out and is colorful without being garish or too busy. The brick-built cows are a nice touch too!

Civitatem et Flammas

This portrait of Roman Emperor Nero by Mihai Marius Mihu is simply stunning. I love Mihai’s work and this definitely doesn’t disappoint! From the ruined and burnt bust to the city in flames…not to mention the laurel wreath that mirrors the flame motif…this creation is tied together incredibly well.

VDNKh station from novel Metro 2033

Based on the novel Metro 2033 by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky about a post nuclear age in Russia, Fedin (Fianat) has recreated the Metro station which serves as main setting:

METRO 2033

While I have not read the book, I love this build. I particularly liked the attention to detail with all the crumbly bits and the fantastic arched back which really creates a sense of being in an underground subway station.

Friday Night Fights – Big Batman

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we go big with my favorite superhero: Batman! Coincidentally these two opponents both won the Batman 75th Anniversary contest for BrickFair VA and BrickWorld Chicago, but who will win in the Big Batman Showdown? Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

In the white we have Maddison Stapleton (SunlitEquinox) and her Adam West Batman:

Batman!

In the black corner we have Tim Lydy (Julius No) with his life-size version of the villain Scarface:

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding, by way of comment, which of these Big Batman will win the battle. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Mini Mecha, Jonas won 10-2. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

Adorable superheros are adorable

This would certainly be an awesome team-up – although it would never happen as we have a mix of Marvel and DC superheros here. But that certainly didn’t stop TKH from applying his normally anime-focused “chibi” building style and applying it to some Western characters. Super-cute!

RIP Robin Williams – LEGO tributes

There isn’t a whole lot we can add to all the outpouring of love and grief over the last couple of days in the wake of the actor Robin Williams’ death. His humor and creativity remain inspiring to many of us, and the LEGO building community began showing their appreciation almost immediately.

Dave Shaddix created this beautiful and haunting mosaic in just two days.

Farewell

Meanwhile, InbBlotPhoto posted this group of minifigs inspired by Robin Williams’ many memorable roles.

Silver Blade Assassin

Bionicle sculptures seem organic in a way that System simply can’t mimic. Of course, this is because the Bionicle system of pieces was designed to create organic models, but it also means that in the hands of a skilled builder, it excels at rendering smoothly curving forms. This awesome Silver Blade figure by Moko is one such fine example.

Life’s Better With a Lego Titan

Nick’s got the small arms of Titanfall covered, but when it’s time to call in the big guns, you need this Atlas by Sam Wormuth (-infomaniac-).

The staff here is sadly unsavvy to the details of Titanfall, but it doesn’t take an expert to appreciate the level of detailing on this thing. You can practically feel the ground shake just by looking at this killer mech.
