High above the airships of the Deutsches Reich aboard Obenwolken

Linking to Jamie “Morgan19” Spencer‘s Brickshelf gallery in my last post, I realized that I’d never blogged his fighter/reconnaissance craft, the Obenwolken:

Obenwolken has a “state of the art onboard photographic recording system” to survey the steampunk battlefields of 1862, and is armed with a pair of repeating cannons. The always-excellent schematics reveal even more details (click for full resolution):

Cagerrin’s Bionicle frog has an adorable mechanical leg

Cagerrin‘s poor Bionicle frog must have lost a leg, but Cagerrin is a kind soul, so now the frog has a mechanical leg:

Since the leg is apparently steam-powered, this is our first post to contain the word “frogpunk” (though not the first reference to the concept). See Cagerrin’s Brickshelf gallery for delicious froggy goodness.

Thanks to Jamie for the e-mail, and BioniBlog for the reminder.

M577 Aliens APC by Havoc

Aliens remains one of my favorite sci-fi movies, in large part because of the awesome (though mostly futile) hardware the Colonial Marines throw at the aliens. Havoc‘s version of the M577 APC is chock full of awesome:

This bad boy even has a full interior:

The Aliens movies have spawned quite a few posts here on The Brothers Brick over the years:

Tim Goddard sends in the clones

Tim Goddard adds a new microscale LEGO Star Wars diorama to his Mustaneer set with this great scene from the Clone Wars:

The brick-built smoke effects are great — especially where the laser beams rake across the ground. Tim’s microscale vehicles always good, but I love the red-white-and-blue Republic Gunship.

Freight building with Swoofty

Swoofty's railcars

Peter Norman (Swoofty) has fast become one of my favourite train builders. Not only does he build in six-wide (don’t ask… it’s a train thing) but he does it exceptionally well and follows it with excellent photography. His various freight cars are a good lesson to any budding (or experienced) train builder.

Scoot-a-bration contest on Fine Clonier forums

If you’re interested in building a town scene that incorporates motrcycles and scooter bikes, Custom Artist Arealight is hosting a contest at Fine Clonier forums. Build a bike lot/store and you can win quality custom accessories from Arealight’s store, including a custom cast scooter for the first place winner. LEGO Military Build Contest winners announced

LMBC Banner

The winners of the first LEGO Military Build Contest (LMBC) have been announced. There were an excellent selection of models throughout the contest and I’m certainly glad I didn’t have to judge (and not just because I came third in one category… not that numbers mean anything ;) ).

For those of you paying attention quite a few of the winners have featured on The Brothers Brick although I’m not sure we ever mentioned that they were entries. Congratulations to all the winners, it really was a superb showing and it looks like the LEGO military flickr group has been well and truly kick-started.

Nick Dean goes online at the Antipasta Internet Cafe

Nick Dean (Flickr) takes a break from his usual military creations with this airy Internet cafe where spaghetti certainly won’t be on the menu:

Jehkay’s Stamen mecha has lots of cool attachments

Jehkay has been working on a mecha titled “Stamen” that serves as the base for lots of great attachments.

Here it is without any of the attachments:

And with rail guns, leg boosters, targeting module, and counter-measures:

AG-89 Ghost fighter by dasnewten

Rob presents a small, brilliantly designed fighter:

The custom stickers add great detail to an already excellent model reminiscent of World War II fighters.

Fear the Dark Lord

Brickshelf user edulyoung built a commanding figure of Darth Vader. Using Technic, Bionicle, and System parts, edulyoung mashes these eclectic piece together with interesting results. While Vader’s proportion’s aren’t 100% accurate, he certainly boosts an imposing form.

Train building with Cale Leiphardt

Cale Leiphardt's Locos

Cale Leiphardt presents some photos of his (and possibly other people’s) trains set up in an industrial diorama. Lots of excellent details including the textured ground with footpath and the track furniture (bits and pieces the live next to tracks). And of course his locomotives more than stand up to their surrounds.
