Recently, Brent Wolke (thwaak) posted a public request for unwanted LEGO pieces. As a surprise, I sent him some babies. Brent surprised me back by building a slew of creative MOCs to incorporate each one of them. Here are some highlights from the full gallery.

Bandwagon mayhem

Adrian Florea (Olog) mashed together some of the curretly hot bandwagon themes into an action-packed diorama. Without scrolling down to the answers, what themes do you recognize?

Brown Fantasy

In a conversation with Justin Vaughn (Mainman), I jokingly challenged him to make a creature in the theme of Brown Fantasy, a spin-off of Black Fantasy. Should I be surprised? Yes, I have every reason to be.

Kwi Chang goes bipedal

Kwi Chang‘s latest mecha has a unique cockpit configuration and an amazing number of missiles, in addition to the chin-mounted chain-gun:

As a side note, low-slung walker-type mecha seem to be more popular among Western builders (inspired by the iconic AT-ST or the MechWarrior games, perhaps), while Japanese builders tend toward the humanoid (most certainly inspired by Gundam and the like). Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m not. What do you think?

Junk Eater mecha

Bipeds are all too common these days, but what’s a Junk Eater? Izzo (Brickshelf) has an idea inspired by the fantastical concept art of Junji Okubo. I’m trying to imagine this thing in black with orange eyes right now.

Retro-space transports

Kotaro “EARL-0” Ono (of How Many Studs to LEGOLAND) has some nice retro-space creations in his gallery, check out these transport vehicles and especially the power generators. Way cool.

New LEGOLAND to open in Dubai in 2011 [News]

In news sure to excite our 16 readers in the United Arab Emirates, Merlin Entertainments Group (owners of the LEGOLAND theme parks) has announced that it will be opening LEGOLAND Dubailand in 2011.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release:

LEGOLAND Dubailand is scheduled to open at the end of 2011, and will be a 3 million square-foot theme park project forming part of DUBAILAND(TM), the world’s most ambitious tourism, leisure and entertainment destination. Similar to the existing four LEGOLAND Parks at Billund, Denmark; Germany; Windsor and California … LEGOLAND Dubailand features more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions geared towards families with children ages 2 to 12.

MisaQa’s bunnies are too adorable

Known for her miniature animal models, MisaQa recently sculpted a batch of bunnies referencing the Moon rabbit. It is always impressive to see the different postures that this creative builder can give to such small models built out of simple bricks.

To celebrate Adam’s accomplishment and the release of the new Indiana Jones movie, Klocki is hosting an Indiana Jones Building Contest.

There are three categories — vignette, diorama, and large-scale (UCS) model. The coolest prize? A copy of 7623 Temple Escape autographed by the designer, Adam himself.
