Tag Archives: Vignettes

Vignettes are like the haiku of the LEGO world. Usually built on a base 8 studs wide by 8 studs deep, vignettes show a little scene or a moment in time. But like written poetry, there’s plenty of variation on the basic theme.

*smooch*

Click through for the punch line to this great little vignette by Moritz N. (nolnet on Flickr), featuring a little gray frog on a table and a rather unhappy princess.

EDIT: And, it would seem, via The Brothers Brick. This is what I get for blogging while jetlagged… Thanks Tyler!

Daniel takes us to the edge of the world, and beyond!

I’m really liking all the new pirate creations lately, inspired no doubt by Forbidden Cove and the possibility of a new official LEGO Pirates theme in 2009.

Daniel Z (DNL on Flickr) gets in on the pirate action with this very vertical creation that’s definitely worth the scroll:

Castaway Contest! [News]

Forbidden Cove has launched the site’s first contest!

Christened the “Castaway Contest“, the premise is to build the abode of a long-stranded survivor. So bust out those fabulous building skills and show them what you can do!

There is some sweet pirate booty up for grabs as well:

Second Place: #6260 Shipwreck Island

Playin’ Pooh Sticks, Troll-Style!

Sly Owl just posted a peaceful diorama of two friends and their game. Having actually played Pooh Sticks myself, I can vouch for the mind-numbing addictiveness of the game. Awesome job, Owl, gotta love Pooh Sticks!

Did they order that “To Go”?

Crimson Wolf serves up a sweet course of zombie action, entitled “Zombie Pursuit”. Remember, never look back, you never know what might be gaining.

Apocalego: Zombie Pursuit, overall

Remember to look for more Zombie mayhem at BrickCon in October!

It isn’t always “Happily ever after”

Nolnet shows us that life often has unexpected consequences. Kissing a frog never seemed like a good thing to me anyway.

Best use of a SpongeBob fig I’ve seen yet.

Steampunk Tiger Moth

Its been awhile since we’ve showcased any Steampunk. Check out this sweet monoplane by 2 Much Caffeine.

Flowers on a string

Flickr user Kiolden‘s vignette is worth highlighting for a very clever technique used. Can you see what it is? It’s flowers on a string for the smoke from the rocket! This is a very useful and a much cheaper alternative to the ice-cream smoke technique invented by Mark Stafford.

Growing grain on an 8×8 patch with Barbara Werth

Follow the changing seaons as Barbara Werth shows how to till the soil, sow the seed, tend to the crop, and reap the harvest in a series of lovely little vignettes:

Tentacle monster + schoolgirl = Legohaulic’s disturbing vignette

Things are unlikely to end well in this vignette by Tyler:

Note the suckers on the tentacle, as well as the Lowell-Lambrecht sphere from which the unlucky girl is suspended.

Summer ends, and the big evil school bus eats you

Matt S. shows what happens at the end of summer, which involves finding oneself on the big bad yellow bus once again. But I don’t remember my school bus having sharp teeth that chomped on children. Oh how times change.

The harvester of Primal Bot souls

Mechanical anthropologists have long speculated about the afterlife of the Primal Bots captured on film by field researcher Rong Yiren.

Now we have the answer in this photo titled “Damnation!”

Yes, but where do good Primal Bots go when their power sources run out?
