A bridge too far for the T-1000

We’re looking forward to Arnie’s classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day returning to cinemas later this year. What better way to whet your appetite for it than with jp_velociraptor‘s LEGO version of the famous truck chase?

Check out the use of transparent bars and supports to depict the flying masonry as the truck bursts through the bridge parapet. Explosive action like this is often difficult to convey with bricks — but it’s certainly accomplished here.

The flood-channel diorama is nicely done, but the truck is a smart little model itself. Here’s a closer look, along with a suitably serious-looking T1000…

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in Speed Champions scale [Instructions]

Love or hate LEGO’s Speed Champions line, it’s inspired a new genre of fan builds in this scale, along with all the great new pieces it has introduced. Builder hachiroku24 has utilized these to make a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that does the real car great justice.

But instead of just admiring this build, you can make one yourself without trying to reverse engineer it! You’ll need these pieces and the instructional video below.

To the Bumpmobile! Let’s go!

Hot on the tail lights of a series of Wacky Races-inspired LEGO creations, and a fun version of FAB1 from Thunderbirds, Martin Redfern brings us another wonderfully-retro vehicle — this time a mashup of the classic TV-series Batmobile and a fairground bumper car.

The chunky styling is fantastic, with lovely colour-blocking and stripes, and a nice fat bumper running all the way round. Don’t miss smart little touches like the use of a whip for the vehicle’s power antenna and the four golden rings down the side. What we need now is a purple bumper car for the Joker as an appropriate opponent in the arena (hint hint Martin)…

Audi R8 is the car of the future that is here today

Each top-notch sports car has its own unique face and design, and while some of them are timeless, others are way ahead of their time. For instance, such a gem as the Audi R8 won’t look obsolete even in the year 2117. Marius Herrmann masterfully captures the shapes of the vehicle in a scale slightly smaller than a regular minifigure. And thanks to the new 1×2 curved slopes Marius created an amazingly smooth front part of the car’s body, which in my opinion is the best part of the model. Crowned with a tiny Audi logo, this little beauty is as charming as any other huge detailed copy of a car.

Mad, bad, and dangerous to drive

Mad Max: Fury Road was home to some incredible vehicle designs. We’ve seen a couple of great LEGO renditions previously, including the mighty Doof Wagon and the Gigahorse. Jonas Kramm takes inspiration from the movie with an instantly recognizable model. The build captures the look perfectly — a rusty run-down hot rod, bedecked with over-the-top spikes of questionable practical value. The best part? The front wheels’ shock absorbers, made from springs taken from official LEGO pens.

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour...

Your inner time-traveller may get giddy for this wonderful Ultimate Collector Series styled rendition of Doc Brown’s famous DeLorean from Back to the Future. Builder jazlecraz has faithfully recreated the classic time machine’s beautiful lines in LEGO bricks, including the signature gull-wing doors. The model uses a number of clever techniques to achieve the unique shape of the bodywork, including effective use of Mixel ball and sockets to nail some of the more difficult angles.

Creativity is only limited by your imagination

Builder Serge S does it yet again with a 5th variation on the original 10242 Creator Mini Cooper set. This time he’s used the very same parts to build a VW Golf MK1 Cabriolet. His previous alternate builds have included a mono-propellor plane, a Porsche and IVECO Truck, and a V10 Hot Rod. While the folks at Billund may be impressed, I’m sure they’d like to see fewer folks taking creativity to this level, as it’s going to sell a lot less boxed sets on the shelves with all this extended playability! This has definitely got my fingers itching to break apart my own Mini Cooper and have a go.

COSMO Cars of the future

Look twice—those aren’t sideways cars, they’re COSMO Pods, the kit-built racers of the future. Designed by Volker Brodkorb, each of the vertically oriented pods is souped up to match its driver’s style and outfitted with a unique engine, and then splashed with a classic paint job hearkening back to the old petrol-powered four-wheeled racers of yore.

Of course, I’m rooting for the Ford GT40-inspired pod, because who doesn’t love that iconic blue and orange Gulf livery?

Rustic Ferrari workshop filled with nostalgia

Dutch builder Michel Van den Heuvel is very much a Ferarri fan, which led him to build a rustic and charming little vintage-looking garage. His inspiration for the design came from various images found on the web, and led to a very unique build that stands out with simple yet delightful details, from a cobblestone street courtyard to brick-built lettering that spell out the full name of the company, Scuderia Ferrari. The trio of vintage Ferrari race cars lends an authentic touch to the scene.

9,000 piece 1:13 scale LEGO Peterbilt 379 is show ready

There are LEGO semi-trucks, and then there is this beautiful beast by Bricksonwheels. The builder has crafted a 1:13 scale Peterbilt 379 and it is just gorgeous. It has the appropriate amount of chrome to blind drivers running down I-40 in the summer.

This tanker combo is over 150cm long and made of over 9,000 bricks. Much of the chrome is custom. The builder says it took about 5 months of work, including over 200 LEDs (controlled via remote). This creates quite the impressive lightshow! The builder credits Brickstuff for the lights and Bricks4all.nl for the chrome.

Labour of love pit stop for hot rods recreated from real life

Once in a while you see a build that not only looks great, but simply blows it out of the water, combining great details and huge playability potential. This build by Andrea Lattanzio of a famous hot rod workshop is surely one of them. What brings this place to life are the small details scattered around, such as the electrical poles and the junkyard at the side.

Andrea tells us a little history of the Mooneyes Headquarters, where gearheads and hot rod modders hang out to get their repairs and mods. Today, Mooneyes is still located in Santa Fe Springs, California, where it’s been since 1962. The builder is obviously a huge fan, and has painstakingly recreated the full workshop layout inside.

Gorgeous 8-foot-tall LEGO mobile crane has complete working functions

Leibherr’s LTM 1090-4.1 mobile crane is an impressive piece of construction equipment with a top speed of 85km/h, a telescopic boom up to 50m, and a maximum load capacity of 90 tonnes. If that doesn’t impress you, then this scaled LEGO version of the mobile crane by Dirk Klijn should attract your attention. Dirk has spent 3 and a half years working on this 80cm long model that has 5 Sbrick‘s controlling 17 functions, including driving, working rear lights, indicators and reversing lights, boom and jib extension, power-lifting objects, steering and motion, as well as non-motorised functions such as full suspension, opening doors, and the manual folding jib.

On a model this big, there are plenty of details to pore over…
