The LEGO Star Wars GR-75 Transport is away

Adding to an impressive line-up of spacecraft for SHIPtember 2018 is Anders Horvath with his LEGO replica of a GR-75 Medium Transport from The Empire Strikes Back. Choosing to build a Star Wars spacecraft so iconic and recognizable is challenging, but Anders nailed it with excellent contrast between the cargo containers, central greebling, and relatively slick hull panels. Best yet, it’s even got an interior.

The layered elliptic paneling of the hull is built beautifully. The original seen on screen is segmented unevenly, and this is reflected well in the LEGO rendition. The layering of tiles create the divisions between panels and suggests curvature down the length. Continue reading

Bacta tank Luke returns in LEGO Star Wars 75203 Hoth Medical Chamber [Review]

Luke Skywalker gets roughed up quite a bit in The Empire Strikes Back, first by a giant Yeti-beast and later by his own dad, who cuts off his hand just for mouthing off and refusing to obey! As a result, Luke spends quite a bit of time in Rebel Alliance medical facilities, both on Hoth and aboard the Nebulon-B medical frigate. While LEGO Star Wars fans have clamored for a UCS or even microscale medical frigate for years, LEGO has instead focused twice on the bacta tank treatment scene, most recently with 75203 Hoth Medical Chamber. Available August 1st, this set includes 255 pieces with 3 minifigures and retails for $29.99.

50-inch-long Executor-class Star Dreadnought is a monochrome monstrosity in search of Rebel forces

Don’t you find it unfair that it took the Rebels just a couple of movies to destroy everything the Empire had built across the whole galaxy during many, many years? A Star Wars fan and an extremely talented LEGO fan one case shows compassion to the Empire with a jaw-dropping replica of the iconic Executor class Star Dreadnought ship. This 52-in/132-cm ship consists of more than 7,300 pieces; this is even more pieces than in the biggest LEGO Star Wars 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon set!

And I thought... they smelled bad...

But thanks God brick-built LEGO tauntaun smells of nothing but the finest ABS plastic. Robert Lundmark surprises us with this bodacious statuette of one of the most famous creatures of the Star Wars universe, and there’s so much awesome about it.

The empire strikes back to the 1980s

The Empire Strikes Back was released back in 1980 and is still one of the most popular Star Wars films to date. Josephine Monterosso has captured the likeness of two of the main characters from the movie, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, as BrickHeadz. Each character has some great little details to enjoy that are a step beyond the official Brickheadz style,  but there are no rules when it comes to building your own characters. Luke’s flak vest with its tubing is a lovely touch and, along with the helmet and visor, really makes this character recognisable.

Han Solo’s fur-lined hood works well with simply some studs on show to give texture. I love the use of a palisade brick to give the clinched-in appearance to his parka waist — it really adds some flair.
