LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

Lightning McFalcon

Raphael Heusser‘s mashup of Cars and Star Wars yields hilarious results. Never would I have imagined a cross between Lightning McQueen and the Millennium Falcon prior to seeing this creation.

Escape from Docking Bay 327 – Death Star dio big enough for UCS Falcon

German LEGO Star Wars fan David Wagner wasn’t content just to build 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon and let it gather dust in his basement. He built an entire Death Star diorama full of classic details.

Oh, and it lights up! David incorporated LEDs throughout the diorama, including the Falcon’s cockpit and ramp, landing lights, and more.

Best LEGO X-Wing Yet

I usually avoid making a judgement call about a model being the ‘best yet’ (at least here on TBB). But I’m making an exception for Mike Psiaki’s (psiaki) latest iteration of the X-Wing Starfighter. Mike has packed in every detail possible from an accurate backside to detailed guns to working landing gear.

LEGO Star Wars ARF Trooper minifig returns to LEGO Shop – quantities limited

LEGO Star Wars ARF TrooperFor those of you who missed the ARF Trooper minifigs during Star Wars Days back in May, the LEGO Shop online has a limited quantity that they’re going to give away to readers of The Brothers Brick, FBTB, and Brickset over the next couple of weeks.

To get one, you’ll need a special code from us, FBTB, or Brickset. Here are the details from LEGO:

We have discovered a limited quantity of LEGO Star Wars™ Shadow ARF Trooper minifigures in our warehouse! Due to the very limited quantity we would like to give the fan community the first chance to receive these as bonus gift on any LEGO Star Wars holiday purchases that meet the Free Shipping threshold of $99.

The offer will be available Nov 7th – 21st or while supplies last. To add the LEGO Star Wars™ Shadow ARF Trooper to your eligible order simply enter code 4TBB (US) / TBBO (CA) at checkout.

Unfortunately, warehouses elsewhere in the world didn’t have a lost stash of ARF Troopers, so this is limited to North America.

LEGO fan recreates Erik Varszegi’s Venator star destroyer

In 2005, LEGO Master Builder Erik Varszegi built a massive Venator-class Star Destroyer for Star Wars Celebration III. At 8 feet long, it was the largest LEGO model most of us had seen at the time, and set the bar very high for the likes of Mark Kelso. However, in order to build the Venator strong enough to ship from Enfield, Connecticut to Indianapolis, Indiana, Erik and his fellow model builders had to glue the model and incorporate a steel frame (FBTB has a great interview with Erik). Now, six years later, Sylvain Ballivet has built his own version of Erik’s Venator, except that it’s built from 100% LEGO elements with no glue.

VENATOR CLASS STAR DESTROYER by iomedes

Sylvain’s Venator by the numbers:

  • 82 kg (181 lbs)
  • 2.44 m (8 ft) long, 1.2 m (4 ft) wide, and 64 cm (25 in) tall
  • 43,280 LEGO elements (!)

Check out lots more photos on Flickr, and this awesome video that really gives you a sense of the scale of this beast:

Orange Jedi Interceptor punches through Trade Federation blockades

Though Lucas lost me by the second Star Wars prequel, I still love many of the vehicles and vessels designed by his brilliant team. One of my favorite scenes is the one in which Obi-Wan and Anakin fight through the blockade of Coruscant in their Jedi Interceptors. Official LEGO Star Wars sets have featured the Eta-2 Actis-class Light Intercepter a couple of times, but this studless design by Kevin Murney (legorevolution) truly pops. The bright orange certainly helps.

Remote controlled LEGO R2-D2 sculpture

Sculptures are rarely motorized due to their size, and the fact that most people build them mainly for aesthetics. This LEGO R2-D2 by Ickelpete features movement and other functions. I wonder if it can hack into the Death Star? Check out the video.

LEGO Star Wars 7879 Hoth Echo Base out now, 7962 Podracers reviewed [News]

The summer 2011 LEGO Star Wars sets continue to arrive at the LEGO Store online. As much as I appreciate the cool vehicles in the Star Wars universe, it’s nice to see LEGO release playsets occasionally, like the new 7879 Hoth Echo Base.icon

It’ll set you back 90 bucks, but the base contains a Tauntaun and eight minifigs, including R-3PO the red protocol droid, 2-1B medical droid, and a Bacta tank Luke. (Release news via FBTB.)

Also at $90, I’m personally more impressed with the revamped 7962 Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba’s Podracers, icon which FBTB reviewed in detail recently.
