Films and the cinema provide a lot of great inspiration for LEGO builders all over the world. You’ll find LEGO models inspired by everything from Mad Max to Toy Story here.

Rocko summons the worm

Rocko‘s latest work is not another castle diorama, but a minimalist horror scene inspired by Dune. The simplicity of this piece of work tells a lot about the stark horror of the subject. Nicely done Rocko, I dig it.

Futurama by Pepa

Matt De Lanoy (aka Pepa Quin) has been long around and known for his large lego models, especially those from Star Wars. His latest project ventures into the world of the sitcom Futurama.

Check out his Futurama creation on the new website Brickpics, also including an impressive lineup of custom minifigs, bearing high semblance to the TV characters themselves.

Spider-pig, Spider-pig...

In response to our recent post about ImpreSariO’s movie posters, reader Craig sends word of his own set of LEGO movie posters.

My favorite is The Simpsons Movie, proving once again that simplicity is often the best policy — that’s one round tile and 40% of a minifig torso assembly.

Here’s Reservoir Dogs and an Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull teaser poster:

Finally, another favorite, Jaws:

Janey Cook’s microscale town/train layout

Moving microscale cable car! For some reason, teeny tiny towns entertain me greatly, and I’m in love with this one by Janey “Red Brick” Cook.

Make way for the bad guy.

Album covers are a popular subject for LEGO creations, but it’s not so often builders create movie posters, as ImpreSariO has done.

That’s Scarface above, with One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Rocky Balboa below:

My favorite, though, is Forrest Gump:

Legend of Zelda stop-motion animation by Michael Inglis

Reader Eric sends word of a great Legend of Zelda video on Kotaku (possible spoiler alert for the three of you in Uzbekistan who haven’t finished Ocarina of Time yet):

What I like so much about this is how creator Michael Inglis used all the right sound effects. Simple things like that make a huge difference. See more of Michael’s videos on YouTube.

I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

I found the Saturday Night Live skit spoofing There Will be Blood a week ago highly amusing, but not having seen the movie yet, I never imagined the milkshake bit was actually in the movie (as I learned during the Oscars the next night)!

Sir Nadroj creates minifig versions of the entire cast (his Daniel Plainview and Eli Sunday above), while Jordan takes a different approach by putting the characters in a vignette (below).

Finally, Graeme “Littlebrick” Allen reminds us that we missed James Morr’s “There Will be Bricks” (thanks Graeme!):

Sjaak Alvarez makes funny LEGO Star Wars animations

Animator Sjaak Alvarez uses Autodesk 3ds max 9 and Adobe After Effects CS3 to create really cool (and funny!) videos set in the LEGO Star Wars universe.

Here’s his latest, “It’s hard to be a Stormtrooper II”:

In addition to videos, Sjaak has great tutorials for those of you who might want to try your own hand at LEGO CG animation. Check out Bricks3D both for the tutorials and more videos.

Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed

This little contraption overloaded with a certain family of hillbillies headed to a place called Beverly Hills made me smile. Thanks for the laugh, Bumblejeep44!

Alex Eylar pushes up some daisies

Alex Eylar (Flickr) has captured several scenes from one of my favorite new TV shows, “Pushing Daisies.”

Aaron Andrews will haul away your corpses

The Classic-Castle.com Vignette Storytelling Contest kicked off at the beginning of this month, and sets of four vigs are popping up all over the place.

Aaron Andrews‘ vigs are inspired by one of my favorite moments in the Monty Python canon — “Bring out your dead!”

(“I’m not dead!”)

The glorious Bender B. Rodriguez and some irrelevant flesh-tubes

Ochre Jelly’s Stephen Hawking has become the stuff of Internet legend (previous post here on TBB). His latest creations are a set of characters (in the same “MINILAND” scale) who should be familiar to fans of great TV.

Check out OJ’s MOCPages for more shots of Bender, Fry, Leela, and Nibbler (my personal favorite). Here’s hoping Ochre Jelly builds the whole cast of Futurama. Zapp Brannigan, anyone?
