Everybody loves LEGO minifigures — well, almost everybody. Minifigs are often the stars of the LEGO models we feature here on The Brothers Brick, but we also feature some amazing custom minifigs you’d never expect to see in an official LEGO set.

Kaneda’s bike from Akira in LEGO

Korean builder Haeundaddy has designed and built probably the best LEGO version of Shotaro Kaneda’s bike from Akira that I have seen. This larger scale bike is shapely, detailed and full of the smooth lines that characterise this famous red bike. The specially designed base is a nice touch as a model of this calibre needs something a little special to rest upon.

The details are fantastic, from the sports seat to the handlebar area, and Haeundaddy has taken the time to capture his work with some excellent photography.

Mr T and his fab Model T Ford

Mr T is looking suitably pleased with himself in this great little scene by Calin. I’m not surprised that he has caught the eye of a fair lady who happens to be strolling nearby. His shiny Model T Ford is a lovely build with some fab parts usage.

I love the little details that Calin always brings to his builds, in this case, the rubber band across the windscreen is a lovely touch. Also, in case you haven’t realised, the wheel base is the Fabuland car chasis. What a great way to turn a comedy Fabuland car into a classy classic car.

Liberté, égalité, fraternité

Just a couple weeks ago, we featured some lovely minifig artwork that recreated Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam by Ki Young Lee. The builder has been hard at work, though, and I love his latest. With some great minifig choices and deft Photoshopping, we have Eugène Delacroix’s iconic 1830 painting “Liberty Leading the People.”

While my own preferences lean toward revolution over devotion, Ki Young Lee’s recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” is no less excellent — though not brick-building the architectural background elements does seem like a lost opportunity. I do like Simon the Zealot’s neck beard.

Ace’s high, low, and wild in Alice’s Wonderland

I don’t envy Alice, and her upcoming confrontation with these Card Knights. Julius von Brunk has been working on these LEGO Card Knight minifigures for an upcoming Alice in Wonderland display. We’re treated to a hand full of Aces, along with the Joker. It’s certainly a hand full of dangerous cards no matter which game you play!

Caterham Seven: LEGO City edition

The new LEGO Ideas 21037 Caterham Seven set was announced last week to much fanfare in the UK, but clearly has got fans all over the world excited too, as evidenced by this minifig scale version by Taiwanese builder RGB900.

LEGO Indiana Jones does the temple run

You must remember that famous scene in Indiana Jones: The Raiders of The Lost Ark when Indy is chased by a giant boulder and has to run through the temple as the boulder rolls closer and closer? Well back in 2008, LEGO released 7623 Temple Escape with the rolling boulder as a play feature. Australian builder Forgotten Days has taken that set and expanded it – adding style, accuracy and details along the way – resulting in a much better scene.

The surface terrain is nicely built up with gaps to highlight the underground activities taking place. Using an Indiana Jones minifigure at the start standing with the idol, and another at end of the run, is a nice touch. I love that Indy at the end is in the seated position just like in the movie!

LEGO Zombie Pirate Ghost Batman!

In case you didn’t quite catch that the first time… LEGO ZOMBIE PIRATE GHOST BATMAN!

We don’t often cover minifig-only “builds”. However, this piece of inspired lunacy by Roman was too good to pass up. Besides, as Andrew (our illustrious founder and Editor-in-Chief) occasionally reminds us, The Brothers Brick originally started as a minifig blog.

Who’d have thought a Pirate Batman and a Ninjago Ghost figure would come together so perfectly. I demand a whole series of undead pirate versions of Batman characters. Vampire Cap’n Joker ahoy!

Crow Warrior custom minifig is a thing of nightmares

Customizing minifigure is a skill unto itself. We do occasionally feature particularly lovely specimens, and this fantastically creepy Crow Warrior from Ser Eathan is an excellent example.

The customized headpiece reminds me an awful lot of the masks worn by doctors treating plague victims, which adds another level of creepy to the minifig. I don’t know what he’s doing with the axe, but I don’t think he’s doling out medical advice.

Gini’s Home Electrical Store is now open on BrickHills Avenue

It is the early 1960s and we are going for a stroll down BrickHills Avenue with builder Andrew Tate. Andrew has created a lovely scene with Art Deco-inspired architecture centering on Gini’s home electrical store on the corner. There is definitely evidence of the source of inspiration being a movie theater, and Andrew mentions the Warner Beverly Hills theater and Sunset Boulevard theatre at Disney Studios in his own description.

This build is not just a façade, as Andrew has also designed some interior views. The image below is clearly from Gini’s home electrical store. It looks to be a source for colourful refrigerators, washing machines and expensive cookers — more than enough to meet the desires of a mini-housewife!

Duelling LEGO Knight with spurious shield

These duelling knights are clearly having a medieval difference in opinion, perhaps a pretty damsel in distress is the source of their angst? This vingette by DavidFNJ is a lovely little scene that has been photographed very well to demonstrate depth of field and a perfect angle to make the viewer part of the action. The colours used for the surrounding woodland and rocky areas are both realistic and attractive.

Look at the anger on the Knight’s face, he means business. I imagine the other chap is actually distracted by his opponent’s unusual shield decoration, its not often you see the sprue (a piece of extra plastic holding two elements together as part of the moulding process) used as an unofficial part!

Knock your opponent’s block off with these LEGO Rock ’em Sock ’em robots

The infamous red and blue robots of yesteryear, Rock ’em Sock ’em robots are always good for a little sport when plain old thumb wars won’t do. Bruce Lowell has made this terrific version featuring minifigs as the robots, and it’s just perfect. Go get em, champ!

Keeping things running at optimal level

This rad little droid built by Marco Marozzi has all kinds of neat details packed inside its frame. I especially like face, with the thin tire squeezed in between two translucent orange armor plate pieces to break up the orange a bit. Though the droid is what grabbed my attention here, don’t miss the overall maintenance scene with engineers in oversize helmets — a bold idea to choose over standard minifigure headgear, but it works well.
