These two aliens are quite the pair

Based on artwork from Burzok’s Mercenary Handbook, Djokson has built two strange looking models. The use of unusual parts from the Ben 10 figures, specifically the chest and thighs, contributes to the odd portrayal of the more humanoid of the two. The ears of the critter on the shoulder are represented by small angled pieces and are held on clips. Piercing pink mono eyes of both aliens appear to be icon parts from the Clikits line. Hopefully, the duo is friendly, although they may like to stare at you for a while…

Raiders of the lost nest

As usual, Bart De Dobbelaer brings us a treat of a scene with this detailed LEGO diorama portraying a pair of would-be poachers about to face off with their worst nightmare: a mother. While the monstrous creature is fascinating with its bright plumage and—are those all eyes?—it’s the scenery itself that really draws my attention as a builder, because the thick bushes are splendidly done, especially for how simple they are, combining two types of leaf elements stacked around a flower stem element.

Time to turn back the clocks with this monster from Yu-Gi-Oh!

LEGO builder Bodhimitri has constructed this fantastic model of Time Wizard from the classic card game anime, Yu-Gi-Oh!. The charming rounded shape of the creature has been perfectly captured in this model, even with the cogs around the face and the staff in hand. The pointed shoes are partially created by the use of sloped curved pieces and the wizard appears to be standing on a card version of himself. In the show, when this card activates its effects you have a 50-50 chance to destroy your opponent’s monsters or your own. It all depends on the result of where the spinner lands, located on Time Wizard’s staff. Let’s hope this is one lucky spellcaster!

Stunning pixel dragon breathes pixelated fire

Formed in a pixel art style, FukuTaku has created this fabulous looking dragon. The build is based on Dragonlord, from the Dragon Quest games. There’s a real sense of heat coming from the model, with fire erupting out of the dragon’s mouth. The warm colour scheme of the stomach also contrasts nicely against purples and pinks of the body. You can tell this model must have required a lot of planning by the large amount of 1×1 plates used in its construction. This build adds so much more detail to the original design in a colourful and vibrant way.

Holy Jumping Peacock Spider!

Sullivan R has constructed this charming build based on a peacock spider. In real life, the tiny spider waves its colourful back and long legs in order to entice a mate. This build has some excellent details such as the use of Rahkshi worms which represent its fangs. Minifigure hands portray delicate hairs on the spider’s extended legs. The long horn pieces on the back form the unusual curved patterns which surround a red central area, represented by a shoulder armour piece. The end result is an adorable model that hopefully won’t get eaten by its potential mate.

Good...doggie...beast

Looking like an extra from a reboot of AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, the Skulkhound isn’t something you’d want to find rummaging through your rubbish. Builder Djokson is quite a practiced character artist with a great eye for design and parts usage. This creepy little doggo is a perfect example of both. The sharp, spindly legs provide just enough support for the arching, unnaturally thin spine of this Chupacabra-esque cutie. Clever color-blocking with DOTs bracelets of different thickness give the beast a cartoonish coat that almost distracts from its jagged smile.

It may have a face only its creator could love but look at it a little longer. You know it’s cute, just in a “good boy, don’t eat my soul, here’s your graveyard kibble” kind of way. If creepy isn’t your thing, I wouldn’t recommend checking out too many of Djokson’s other creatures. Some are much less cuddly than others but they’re all full of life.

Hide your valuables from this sneaky character!

It is a shame that the VIDIYO theme didn’t pan out, however, as Dan Ko demonstrates in this build, there are still plenty of ways to utilise the pieces from the sets. For example, the strap from the VIDIYO BeatBox builds, forms part of the face and torso of this unique looking creature. The character is intended to be a robber or bandit hence the equipment on the character’s back which could be a type of laser for slicing into safes. Another fun feature is at the feet, where minifigure belts have been applied.

Take a trip to this peaceful floating platform

In this mystical scene by Alex_mocs, a tree wraps around an elevated structure. The shadowy figure of a deer stands next to a wide chalice with a wing piece sprouting from the bowl. The smooth shape of the deer’s body is formed of rubber bands, closely slotted together. A stud shooter represents the creature’s neck and the head is actually a droid torso piece. The stairs also have an interesting build with a staggered construction created by placing plates sideways.

You wouldn’t want to be this fish’s dentist!

Mitsuru Nikaido has constructed this haunting model, taking inspiration from aquatic creatures found in the depths of the ocean. Specifically, this build is based on the strangely named footballfish, from the same family as the anglerfish. The body is covered in armour like plates, providing the model with a robotic aesthetic, until you get to the mouth. The twisted, organic looking teeth, recreate the horrifying appearance of the fish, along with the round gleaming eyes. Beware dear readers, I’ve heard that this model uses a golden bionicle orb to lure in unsuspecting LEGO fans…

The Abyssal Daemon is here to brighten your day...or something

Can you believe this Abyssal Daemon is a belated Christmas present from one builder to another? I can, actually. The LEGO builders we feature here at The Brothers Brick are nothing if not fun and creative. Anthony Wilson has created this dastardly demon for Aiden Rexroad in honor of his style and now we’re all feeling warm and fuzzy. Or is that my head separating from my spine? It’s hard to tell the difference at times. I don’t think I’ve met these two gents in person but if I received such a gift I’d be pretty thrilled. Call me weird but I just love the skeletal batwings and the crescent moon-shaped head. But then again I’ve always been into odd things. How about you? What do you think?

A face as pretty as a song

At first glance this build by Dan Ko is interesting enough. The LEGO Space Police Logo draws you in, and maybe if you’re a child of the 80’s you’ll recognize that red beast as a Mantisaur from the He-Man universe. Or maybe you’ll just dig the Mantiasur’s cool part usage like hotdogs for eye ridges, feet, and claws. Or the 1×1 round plate “teeth” that remind me of another creepy build from Dan. But then you look closer at the rider and you can’t help but think….”Hold on. That dude has a guitar for a head.”

How do you feel about this character? Do you want to be his friend or do you want to pull a Hendrix and remove this being from our reality entirely? I admit to being slightly torn, myself. Anyway. If you want to return to the noble past (future?) of the Space Police, I suggest you view some of our previously featured builds!

This flower mantis wants you to put up your dukes

This LEGO flower mantis built by Takamichi Irie is so pretty. It’s also deadly if you happen to be its prey…or a male flower mantis. I’m not sure whether I want to fight it or kiss it. Either way, it’s probably best I keep a safe distance from anything that would bite my head off after mating, not that I’d be into that sort of thing. (Well, that got awkward fast!) While you’re mulling over how that would work out, take a look at why we are so smitten by anything Takamichi does. On second thought, maybe I can give this pretty flower mantis just a tiny smooch. What can go wrong?
