I was drawn to this LEGO build by the use of Chris Maddison’s colours but was then awed by the construction employed here. Chris has captured the natural movement of the worm and its dynamism perfectly as it explodes from the floor surprising our intrepid travellers. The dominant colours of sand blue and purple make the scene pop with the sand blue adding the suggestion of the cave floor without distracting whilst the positioning of the minifigs captures the energy of the encounter incredibly well.
Theres a lot to appreciate in this build, the horns mounted along the flanks look suitably menacing leading up to the cavernous maw which in itself is an impressive LEGO construction alone – full of teeth and gaping jaws both simply and intricately detailed using studs and the horn pieces again here as teeth in the encroaching mouth, protecting that vulnerable stomach as it closes in on its quarry.
The worm is well engineered and if you’re like me, I can’t wait to hit my bricks and work out how Chris has achieved the movement in this. I’m a Dungeons and Dragons player and I’d certainly not like to be rolling Initiative against this creature…
