ADULT FANS ONLY – LEGO Design Team – Open Call For Theme Ideas! [NEWS]

I just received an exciting announcement from LEGO. It seems that their design team is accepting submissions for ideas in something like a contest. It seems like one person will get to work with LEGO Designers to develop their idea into an official theme.

Hoorah for acronyms!

SPARKART has built a rather fantastic entry for the FBTB Mecha Madness contest. The premise of which is to build a mecha designed for a super hero or villain. And who better a subject than Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.

Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing

The build itself is quite good, but the ‘descriptive’ weapon systems totally had me bustin’ a gut…specifically the SHarp STICKS :D

Landscape Contest

Running from August 10th to September 10th, Flickr member Bruno is hosting a contest focused on building landscapes as opposed to vehicles and/or buildings.

LEGO Landscape Contest

Presented to you by Bruno and coupons provided by Brick Takeover
Imagine a peacefull landscape, green trees, flower fields, bunnies hopping around… AND OH MY GOD IS THAT A MANIAC WITH A FLAMETHROWER BURNING EVERYTHING TO SHREDS?!
So far this introduction, I’ll now tell you what the actual meaning of this contest is. You’ve all seen countless builds of apocalyptic wastefields, magnificent castle landscapes and so on. This contest focuses not on the minifigures dwelling in the landscapes, but on the landscapes itself. The goal is to create whatever landscape you like, be it a swamp, a volcanic island, a nuclear fallout landscape and so on.

-YOU MUST HAVE A BRICKLINK ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR PRICE

Again, the prizes are funded by myself with my hard-earned money so keep in mind that I can’t really afford any fancy price.

Last Minute Entries Welcome

Well our starfighter contest is coming to a close today. I have never been a huge stickler for deadline cutoffs, so as long as it is August 1st somewhere on Earth then you are ok to post an entry. As I type this it is 5:30am in American Samoa, so that leaves you all roughly 18.5 hours to build and photograph :-D

We are fast approaching 70 entries at last count, so you certainly have not made it easy on us judges!! Stay tuned for the results…although I am not going to promise that the winners will be decidely quickly, we have a monumental task ahead of us!!!

Microscale Sci-Fi (Mi-Fi) contest winners announced

I feel truly awful that I never got around to featuring more than a handful of the wonderful microscale models from the recent Mi-Fi contest run by The Living Brick. (Can you ever forgive me, Iain?) Anyway, Iain and Rod have announced the winners!

nolnet‘s “1.21 Gigawatts” and halfbeak‘s “Resistance is Futile” deservedly took the top spots.

1.21 Gigawatts Resistance Is Futile

SPARKART! submitted two great entries, inspired by The Matrix and Bladerunner.

Welcome...to the real world. Los Angeles November 2019

Carl Merriam also entered two great micro-models, from Spaceballs and “Futurama”.

Check out the group pool for a stellar lineup of entries, and read Iain’s writeup, highlighting even more of the great entries. Congratulations to the winners, and here’s hoping Iain runs this contest annually!

One small contest for man...

Tim previously announced the contest that Stijn (Red Spacecat) and I are running over at the Starfighters Group on flickr. Figured since it was the half way point of the contest, I would take the opportunity to spread the word a little more.

This whole contest was a total last minute whim on my part, and it was only when Stijn graciously arranged the prize sponsorship with Morebricks that it became a legitimate endeavour. So far the participation has been outstanding, with 23 entries of all shapes and sizes. I don’t want to give away my favourites quite yet, but be sure to check them all out. Personally I still haven’t built a ship for it, but my man Stijn has totally shown me how it is done with his EADS TWDS ‘LONGBOW’. As usual his presentation is rather fantastic!

EADS TWDS 'LONGBOW'

So all you space-boys and space-gilrs out there…get your bricks out and start getting creative. Lets see if we can’t get 50+ entries. You have until August 1st.

Oh yeah, one last bit of incentive…behold this swanky 1st place trophy!!!!
