This castle is so big...

…we can’t fit it all in one picture. If you’re familiar with your castle builders, you’ll instantly recognize this as a creation by Daniel Z. As I was looking closely at the castle, I noticed some interesting patterns on the sculpted rocks. Look closely and you’ll be amazed that not everything is studs-up. If you’re wondering what’s on the other side of the castle, you should check out the entire gallery.

Ocean Outpost

The castle in the ocean by Rod Gillies (2 Much Caffeine) is a nifty scene to stand on its own. What really makes it extraordinary is the technique of using interlaced 2X2 tiles for the castle wall.

I’ve been a busy bee and had no time to do a decent job of blogging. So here are the pictures I have in my bloglist. One is old, two are new.

The Colossal Castle Contest has begun [News]

Now in its seventh year, the massive multi-category contest, run annually by Classic-Castle has gone live.

Categories include Technological Advances, Alternate Sets, Medieval Mariner, Outlaw Escape, Eastern Medieval Life, Religous Life, Knight’s Training, Custom Castle Figure, Brick Castles, Fantasy Castles and Misc. The prizes are quite impressive, including vintage Castle sets, new sets, older MISB set, custom accessories and more. So get out there and get medieval!

At the foothills of the mountains

Chris Wunz‘s Border Outpost is a marvel in landscaping. I really like the intricately carved paths on the mountains and the integration of the two lakes joined by a cascading ravine. The setup also features a working waterwheel and millstone, a cool addition that tops off this wonderful creation.

Japanese shrine

This shrine, by gtahelper, is top notch. It’s packed with all sorts of incredible details, including the first Shishi odoshi that I’ve seen. Make sure you check out the video too, the fish are very cool.

Of cliffs and castles

These two elements tend to combine to make an awe-inspiring scene. This is precisely what’s depicted in Luke Watkins‘ diorama of a church on a cliff overlooking violent waters. The story goes that pirates used lights on the cliffs to lure ships to crash on the rocks below during stormy nights. The church thus rings its bells as warning and lament for those passing.

Battered by waves for a thousand years

Castle New Rock is living testament to mankind’s mastery of nature. If you were impressed by Matija Grguric‘s original Castle Rock, you’ll be blown away by his newest creation, featuring 20,000 bricks and 3 months of genius at work. The concept of a gargantuan castle nesting on jagged rocks jutting from the sea is the embodiment of the sublime.

No matter which angle you look at the creation from, it’s always a sight to behold.

Fear the green water

Sorry for not coming up with a better title, but if you look at Chris Edward‘s microscale Castle on the Lake, you’ll either be consciously or unconsciously affected by all the shades of green from the sand green roofs to the green cliff vegetation and finally… the tranquil yet ominous green water. This subtlety combined with Chris’ skilled building equals a fine creation.

Lonely Keep by Busboy489

Flickr user and Classic-Castle member busboy489 posted this fantastic keep. Considering it’s really his first Castle creation in 7 years, I’m definitely thinking this guy is one to keep an eye on.
