Skate for your life!

Kids, always wear protective gear when skating or cycling – unless you take part in a wild futuristic survival race, and your life depends on your score. Paddy Bricksplitter reveals a roller skater of the future: a courageous racer running in a pair of very high-tech roller-skates. The dynamics of the scene and posture of the figure tell a story of some death-or-glory showdown. Besides the excellent composition, the build is remarkable for its scale, which perfectly suits Rey’s head. Finishing everything off is spot-on use of multiple stickers from various LEGO themes.

The Supreme Leader of the House of Mouse

Builders Build Better Bricks built a better brick Mickey Mouse to put in your brick-built house! Now try saying that 10 times fast.

Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse is one the most iconic and enduring characters in animation history and he’s captured the imagination of many an excellent LEGO builder. This version of the world’s most famous mouse puts Technic parts and hinges to excellent use. The Technic axle connectors that make up the arms and legs could easily swapped and replaced to make the figure capable of a variety of poses. The gloves are really nicely done with the Vehicle Mudguard making a nice curve to the palms and used again to create the curved back of the closed hand. The rounded tiles that give the illusion of rounded fingers are a nice choice. Mickey’s face, with its many odd shapes are well rendered with a combination of quarter round tiles, clever sideways building and rounded bottom plates for the cheeks. The pose is one that will be familiar to fans and imbues the figure with a wonderful sense of action and personality.

Episode 4 is coming....and these LEGO Game of Thrones action figures are spoiler-free

Game of Thrones is in its eighth and final season, and I’m simultaneously excited and saddened to see the series draw to a close. Omar Ovalle is also a big fan of the show, so much so, that he has been building Game of Thrones characters in the form of LEGO constraction (constructible action) figures. He has created some of the show’s key characters, such as Bran, John Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion Lannister. In order to achieve each likeness, Omar customizes his characters using polymer clay with vinyl and the occasional bit of synthetic fur. The results are delightful, so much so that its enough to stave off my anxiety over what’s going to happen in tonight’s episode.

When you shoot a bow and arrow, you aim at the clouds....

When Eero Okkonen set out to build a female archer, he found inspiration in nomadic cultures and the character of Lyndis from Nintendo’s Fire Emblem series. Eero has built a reputation for building impressive-looking characters out of LEGO bricks, and his archer is no exception. In this model, bright, bold colors and earth tones play off of one another to great effect. In terms of form, the figure’s pose is realistic, from the stretch of the bow to the flow of the dress.

Eero makes excellent use of certain elements, such as barrels used to form a quiver and a balloon tire for the hair bun.
