LEGO Icons 10350 Tudor Corner revealed as the next LEGO modular building [News]

As we come to the close of each year, those of us in the LEGO fan community feel the collective excitement for the announcement of the next LEGO modular building. And that proclamation is finally here! Branching out into a new style of architecture, LEGO Icons 10350 Tudor Corner brings a taste of merry olde England to your LEGO city layout. With 8 minifigures (including a mannequin), the set is packed with stores, including a tavern, clockmaker, and haberdashery (more on that in our review tomorrow morning). There’s also a small attic apartment in the upper story of the set. Clocking in at 3,266 pieces, this new corner modular also comes with a unique gift-with-purchase for those buying in the first week of sales: LEGO Icons 40757 Corner Kiosk GWP. LEGO Icons 10350 Tudor Corner will be available on January 1, 2025 for LEGO Insiders (January 4th for everyone else), and will retail for US $229.99 | CAN $TBD | UK £229.

With a name derived from the Latin for ‘king of the tyrant lizards’, you’d be forgiven for thinking there was no way a Tyrannosaurus Rex could ever be described as cute. Well, the latest LEGO Jurassic World set – 76967 Little Eatie: T. Rex – is here to challenge that view! With 317 pieces, this little gal depicts the dinosaur of the same name from the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series. This successor to this year’s 76962 Baby Bumpy: Ankylosaur – from the same show – will hit shelves from January 1, and you can pre-order it now for US $24.99 | CAN $29.99 | UK £19.99. You might also be able to find it on sites like eBay or Amazon after the full release date.

LEGO Jurassic World 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops Skull – Tricera-top notch? [Review]

Around this time last year, I reviewed a slightly unusual LEGO Jurassic World set: a fossilised T-Rex skull. I concluded a glowing review by hoping that the fossils line would continue; ideally, in my mind, with my favourite dinosaur – the Triceratops – to come next. Clearly someone at LEGO was reading, as LEGO Jurassic World 76969 Dinosaur Fossils: Triceratops will grant both wishes at once when it releases next January 1! You can pre-order it now for US $44.99 | CAN $59.99 | UK £39.99 (you might also find it on eBay or Amazon once it does release), and although it has fewer pieces (468) than its predecessor, it does include a whole extra minifigure. LEGO Star Wars 2025 sets revealed, including buildable Grogu and Clone Wars starfighters [News]

Thanks to German retailer JB Spielwaren, we’ve been given a look at some new LEGO Star Wars sets slated to come out in the new year. The headline set is 75403 Grogu with Hover Pram, with just over 1,000 pieces making up the Child, his pushchair and a blue frog. For fans of the Clone Wars, there is a new ARC-170 starfighter alongside Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor, plus a midi-scale Acclamator Assault Class ship. The Original Trilogy’s Home One starcruiser also gets the midi-scale treatment. A version of Mando’s N1 Starfighter for young builders rounds out the wave. All sets are will be released on January 1, 2025. Be sure to let us know if the comments if you think the Force is strong with the January lineup!

This Star Wars Ewok Village can topple an empire

Back in 2013 LEGO produced the 10236 Ewok Village and at the time it was the first large Star Wars set that wasn’t a spaceship. It was a popular set, likely the pinnacle of Star Wars playsets at the time. Now, eleven years later, Simulterious takes inspiration from that pivotal set but doesn’t stop there; he also borrows some design cues from The Kenner Playset from 1983. If many of our readers are like me, this should hit several nostalgic sweet spots simultaneously. Or should I say…simulteriously? Whether your favorite inspiration was the 2013 LEGO set, the 1983 Kenner playset or neither because you can’t wrap your head around the concept of cute cannibalistic care bears toppling an entire galactic empire, then you have to at least admire the the amazing build techniques on display here.

2024 LEGO Advent Calendars, Day 1 [Feature]

December is here, and in these parts that means it’s time for us to don our ugliest sweaters, top off our mugs of hot cocoa, and get very serious about tiny builds hidden behind little doors in LEGO’s crop of advent calendars. And what a bumper crop it is, with an unprecedented (sinister?) SIX themes on offer! This year Marvel lets the other Avengers take a holiday so that Spider-Man and friends can have the spotlight. Disney doubles the minidoll offerings with a princess-themed calendar making its debut. Advent alumni Star Wars and Harry Potter are back, and of course, we have LEGO’s own City and Friends themes.

Tell the Vic Viper where it hurts

If you don’t like needles, then you’d better hide from this LEGO Vic Viper by Maxx Davidson! This shark-nosed spaceship can make you comfortably numb with whatever is in those giant syringes, while the stethoscope radar can hear you at extreme range. Much like Bionicle before it, this whole build is inspired by pills, so Maxx gave it a classic red and white color scheme and even made the wings out of foil packets! Maxx is a great builder, so if you want to see more of his found-object builds, check out his archive here!

A very hungry LEGO caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the most enduring and beloved works of childrens’ literature thanks to the distinctive style of creator Eric Carle. 55 years after eating its way through readers’ hearts, the Hungry Caterpillar is back in LEGO form courtesy of another distinctive artist, Pan Noda. A character build like this is a departure from the uncanny architecture and liminal spaces we’ve come to expect from the builder, but there’s something about the Hungry Caterpillar that makes it feel at home in Pan’s pantheon. Maybe it’s those haunting eyes of life preservers atop Scala foam? Or the dozens of cherries that turn eerily to fur along the caterpillar’s back. Or the existential question of whether a hole in a book is part of the book or the absence of book. In any case, it’s a brilliant build. Were it not for the apple leaf in the foreground, it would be easy to overlook that it’s a LEGO model all!

“You’ve always been the caretaker, Mr. Torrence”

A thing that Alex Eylar does really well with his LEGO creations is set a mood. Sometimes, often actually, that mood can be deeply unsettling. You don’t need to read the title to know this is an iconic scene from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Here we see an already deranged and inebriated Jack Torrence taking family advice from a ghostly Delbert Grady. The advice in question was chilling and unwholesome, even for 1980 standards; and let’s just say nothing went well for anybody. It turns out this wasn’t the only deeply unsettling bathroom scene in the movie. Alex, if you go on to build the nightmare fuel that was the green bathroom, I’m pretty sure I’ll be damaged goods forever.
