You’d probably expect a lot of the posts on a LEGO website like The Brothers Brick to be about LEGO, and you’d be right. If you’re browsing this page, you might want to consider narrowing what you’re looking for by checking out categories like “Space” and “Castle.” We’re sure there’s something here that’ll fascinate and amaze you.

Lego mosaic printer

The latest cool functioning creation from Jason Allemann is a Lego mosaic printer made completely out of official Lego elements. It uses a Mindstorms EV3 to scan an image and recreate it as a mosaic using 1×1 plates. Check out the video below or go to YouTube to learn how this creation was designed.

Emotional display

Pixar is already killing it at the box office with its new animation Inside Out. Angus MacLane wasted no time bringing us the perfect LEGO rendition of Anger. He then laid down the challenge for fellow builders to create the other emotions, to which Miro Dudas responded with this charming version of Joy. Let’s hope more emotions continue to surface (in the good way) in the near future!

Borderlands LEGO Bandit SMG and Claptraps

As one or two of our readers may have noticed, I have been absent for last few months – which I do apologize – I took a bit of a dark age to focus on real life priorities … like Video games! And the one that undeniably consumed me was Borderands (2 and TPS), with it’s co-op play, unique cell shading, randomly generated gun zaniness and an adorable robot, I was in love…

So when it came down to sitting down and playing with bricks again, I knew I didn’t want to leave Pandora behind, and much like the game, it’s more fun with friends.

With that in mind, I went to the best LEGO gunsmith around: Nick Jensen (Nick Brick) and challenged him to build me a randomly generated Borderland guns.

Enter the Bandit SMG:
Borderlands 2 Bandit SMG
The Bandit gun philosophy is simple: MORE BULLETS! MORE SHOOT BITS FOR BRAIN SPLATS! BANG BANG BANG BANG! …BANG!

While not nearly as elegant looking as some of the guns Nick has built, it’s awkward ridiculousness is fantastically built , with not one, but TWO working magazines clips – cause that’s how we roll. Don’t believe me, check out the video:

Of course, that’s only half the fun. The other iconic element of the game is everyone’s favorite/most hated robot Claptrap – CL4P TP, built by Simon Liu:

Check out the video for more details.

But as in the game, sometimes friends just randomly drop in unannounced, so I was delighted to see that Matt De Lanoy (Pepa Quin) also got in on the Borderlands action this year at Brickworld with a far more adorable version of Claptrap:

Mmmm.... purple

While it employs a style that is recognizably “a la mode” right now amongst castle builders, Kyrrath Fortress (by Guilds of Heroica fan jaapxaap) differentiates itself by making great use of gorgeous gorgeous dark purple as an accent color – a trick he also used effectively in an earlier creation. Add a roof top shaped like a wizard’s hat, and you’ve got a truly magical stronghold!

A human’s best friend

Human sidekicks are so last week. The big videogame trend now is animal companions. And Microsoft has jumped on that bandwagon with it’s new game Recore, announced at the E3 conference last week. So Canadian builder Tyler Sky wasted no time in creating a fully poseable replica of what I suspect will end up being Recore’s most popular character.

One for the books

In order to faithfully recreate both the interior and exterior of the Stockholm public library, Swedish builder Linus Minkowsky decided to just build them as separate models. So I guess you could say it’s bigger on the inside! And looking at the end result, I’d say that was a pretty smart idea. Especially since it meant he didn’t have to exhaust the world’s supply of Medium Dark Flesh colored bricks.

Force feedback

It’s now exactly six months until the release of the new Star Wars movie The Force Awakens. And fan fervor has never been greater! The two teaser trailers have been widely scrutinized, parodied, and even LEGO-ized. But I’m not talking about the predictable flood of Han Solo minifig gray hair swaps… Builder markus19840420 has recreated two scenes from the second teaser in incredible detail. First up is this exciting moment in the TIE hangar, complete with laser blasts and explosions:

Then there is his stunning diorama showing the ‘habit-AT-AT’ glimpsed in the same teaser:

As an added bonus, takamichi irie has started photoshopping his excellent BB-8 model into scenes from both teasers:

Rumor has it a full movie trailer is due to be unveiled at San Diego Comic Con next month. So I think we can expect a bunch more Force Awakens builds in the near future – once all the LEGO Star Wars fans have picked themselves up off the floor, that is ;-)

Two-dimensional personality

Another big build unveiled this weekend at Brickworld (the first of many, we expect) is this 60 x 40 inch mosaic of our favorite synthetic celebrity Hatsune Miku (初音ミク) painstakingly put together over the course of the past year by Chris Rozek. The funny thing is, this isn’t even the first time we’ve featured a life-sized LEGO Hatsune!

Beneath the Waterfall

Now this I would love to see as an actual building. Sergeant Chipmunk has envisioned and brought to life a beautiful castle creation, with a home beneath a waterfall. The home’s occupants have diverted the water to either side of the home. Now thankfully, it’s a smaller waterfall, cause otherwise I think we’d see more the crushed remains rather than this lovely build.

Oh, but the tales this car could tell

Usually here on TBB, we feature beautifully built cars: shiny, in their prime. The Latvian LEGO User Group has posted this positively adorable VW Bug. Beautifully built, but clearly with tales to tell.

summerbug-3

How cute is this?! Rust, peeling paint, and personality with a full interior. If you’re interested, you can also see what’s likely this Beetle before time took it’s toll.
