Next LEGO Technic supercar is 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 with 3,800 pieces [News]

Today LEGO has announced the long-awaited next Technic supercar, 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3. The fourth in the series after the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Bugatti Chiron, and the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, the new flagship Technic vehicle features Ferrari’s latest and greatest in classic bright red. At 23 inches (59 cm) long, the Daytona SP3 model comes with an 8-speed gearbox, V12 engine, and opening doors, hood, and engine cover. With 3,778 pieces, the set will retail for US $399.99 | CAN $499.99 | UK £349.9. It will be available exclusively from LEGO starting June 1, with a wider release at other retailers August 1. A coffee-table book detailing the behind-the-scenes development of the set will also be produced in a limited run of 5,000, and will be available separately for €80 (other currencies TBD).

LEGO Marvel 76217 I Am Groot [Review]

Groot, the lovable living tree from the Guardians of the Galaxy series, was making baby versions of characters cool long before Grogu introduced the term “Baby Yoda” to the pop culture lexicon. As Rocket Raccoon’s loyal partner in crime, he steals scenes by just repeating the words “I am Groot” for all of his dialogue (and, let me tell you, the urge to turn in this review with “I am Groot” repeated over and over was strong). Now LEGO is releasing a 1:1 scale build of this extraterrestrial Ent in his youthful form so you can have a Baby Groot of your very own. 76217 I Am Groot is a 476-piece set releasing June 1st in the UK and worldwide August 1st for US $54.99 | CAN $69.99 | UK £44.99

LEGO Ninjago 71774: Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon – Are four heads are better than one? [Review]

Dragons and Ninjago: This fan-favorite thematic pairing returns in Summer 2022 with Ninjago 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon, part of Ninjago Season 15’s “Crystalized” theme. LEGO Classic 11021 90 Years of Play: a blast from the past [Review]

While we don’t typically cover new sets in the Classic parts pack theme, when we saw LEGO Classic 11021 90 Years of Play announced, the nostalgia factor caught our eye. Meant to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary this year, the set includes lots of nods to iconic themes and sets from throughout LEGO’s history. Personally, having grown up with some of the early themes like Castle, Town, and of course, Space, this set held a certain charm for me, and I’m sure many of you will feel the same. The set includes 1,100 pieces and is available now on LEGO’s website for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £44.99.

LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31131 Downtown Noodle Shop – more options for your city layout [Review]

If you’re looking for more bang for your buck, LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets are one of the best options out there. Fun techniques and pieces coupled with three different instruction manuals provides loads of playability, and the ones that feature small buildings make for good additions to any city layout. The latest, LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31131 Downtown Noodle Shop, is no exception to that. While it may not be the most exciting set out there, particularly in a summer wave full of awesome sets, it’s both practical and cute. Join us as we take a brief look into the details of this 569-piece kit, which will be available August 1st and retail for US $44.99 | CAN $59.99 | UK £39.99.

LEGO Ninjago 71768: Jay’s Golden Dragon Motorcycle – Putting the Dragon into drag racing [Review]

We recently took a look at 71775 Nya’s Samurai X Mech, one of the larger sets in the new Summer 2022 wave of Ninjago sets based on the upcoming Season 15 of the tv show. Next, we swing to the other end of the spectrum and explore one of the more compact offerings. Ninjago 71768 Jay’s Golden Dragon Motorbike will available June 1st in the UK, and August 1st worldwide, from the LEGO Shop Online for US $19.99 | CAN $24.99 | UK £17.99. This 137 piece set comes with the Golden Dragon Motorbike, as you’d expect, as well as a Crystal Spider, Vengestone warrior, and a very impressive Golden Dragon Jay minifigure. LEGO Harry Potter 76403 The Ministry of Magic [Review]

When LEGO announced the summer 2022 sets, two stood out as covering new ground. Here we have the first appearance of the Ministry of Magic, a pivotal setting from the later books (and movies). It’s a large location, and LEGO has chosen to cover a series of vignettes from both the Order of the Phoenix and the Deathly Hallows. Does this approach pay off for the second-biggest Harry Potter set in this wave? 76404 The Ministry of Magic has 990 pieces and comes with nine minifigures, almost all with printing unique to this set and several completely new to LEGO form. It will be available June 19th for US $99.99 | CAN $129.99 | UK £89.99.

This set is based on a license The LEGO Group has with the Warner Brothers films, not J.K. Rowling directly. The transphobic views expressed by Rowling do not reflect the values of The Brothers Brick or, indeed, those of The LEGO Group. The magical world Rowling created, in which many who felt a bit different could see themselves, meant a great deal to so many people, including those that Rowling now demeans. TBB affirms each individual LEGO fan’s choice to claim a piece of the world for themselves, or to reject it entirely.

LEGO reveals 21333 Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh as next Ideas set [News]

After announcing it in February of last year as the next fan-designed set from their crowd-sourcing platform Ideas, LEGO is finally taking the wraps off the official set, letting us get our first look at 21333 Starry Night. The original project, depicting Vincent van Gogh’s famous 1889 painting of Saint-Rémy, France, was submitted by Hong Kong-based LEGO fan Truman Cheng (aka legotruman) back in July of 2020 before reaching the 10k votes threshold to be considered by LEGO just a month later. The final set contains 2,316 pieces and includes a framed version of the painting with sculptural elements to mimic the brush strokes, along with a minifigure of van Gogh and a miniature printed version of the painting on an easel. The set also represents a new licensing partnership between LEGO and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), which owns the artwork. The set will retail for US $159.99 | CAN $219.99 | UK £169.99 and will be available to LEGO VIP members starting May 25, with a general release on June 1.

LEGO Ideas 21333: The Starry Night – You’ll Gogh nuts for this one. [Review]

Back in February of 2021, LEGO announced that a brilliant adaptation of Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night by fan creator Truman Cheng (legotruman) would be one of the next LEGO Ideas sets. Now, just over a year later, that set is about to leap into our greedy little hands. LEGO Ideas 21333 The Starry Night will be available May 25th for VIP members (and June 1st for everyone) from the LEGO Shop Online for US $159.99 | CAN $219.99 | UK £149.99. This 2316-piece set features not only a very interesting sculptural approach to the impressionistic masterpiece, but a minifigure of Vincent van Gogh himself. LEGO Art 31206: The Rolling Stones – You can’t always get what you want, but this might be what you need [Review]

LEGO is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of The Rolling Stones with a 3D rendition of their classic “Lips and Tongue” logo. LEGO Art 31206 The Rolling Stones is a 1998 piece set that will release in the UK on June 1st, followed by North America on August 1st, and will retail for US $149.99 | CAN $199.99 | UK £129.99. It’s a big departure from the other Rock and Roll Icons we’ve seen in the Art theme…and there are surprises in store for the curious builder. LEGO Creator 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent – An ode to a beloved classic [Review]

Even though the LEGO Vikings line was short-lived, it garnered a fairly decent fanbase. With only eight sets (including chess), the theme was packed with enough exciting elements that they still stand out today. Whether you’re a fan of the line or not, you may have instantly noticed that LEGO Creator 3-in-1 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent looks familiar. And you’d be right! There are so many similarities with LEGO Vikings 7018 Viking Ship Challenges the Midgard Serpent, that it can only be a tribute to that iconic 2005 set.
