The spineless worm got what he deserved

Most of the time, when a lone warrior faces off against a dragon—well, it doesn’t end so well for the warrior. Not so with this strong and stalwart fellow by Dan Ko, who looks like he got the better of this fell beast without breaking a sweat. This small-scale build has some mighty sweet part usage, from the brow of the dragon’s head made from the front part of a mech torso to the long and twisted spine made from robot arms and teeth. But I think my favorite part has got to be the large beard made from the hair of a Minifig.

Sleek and feature-packed Corvette made from the parts of a rival car

This smooth car by Firas Abu-Jaber is an alternate build using parts from the LEGO Porsche 911 set, and it looks fantastic. But any sports car is more than just flashy, this precision automobile is packed with features just like the official LEGO set, and others of the same scale.

From opening doors, hood, flip-up headlights, and even a detailed engine in the back, this car fits right in with the official set. The reflective surface also adds a touch of class to the final pics.

This winter fox is one very cool character

With the approach of winter in the Pacific Northwest, I could easily imagine something like this winter fox emerging from the trees, but then I do have a pretty active imagination. When Woomy World was looking for the perfect part to use for the vixen’s ears, I could not imagine a better, more unusual part to use than the bottom jaw of a dinosaur or dragon. But that’s not the only tasty part usage. Check out the eyebrows, made from white croissants.

LEGO Orko has me under his spell

I may be revealing my age but I remember getting up early for Saturday morning cartoons powered by a big bowl of sugar cereal, watching Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, and Johnny Quest (not at the same time, I’m sure). And I instantly recognized Orko even if I didn’t remember his name, or that he was a Trollan sorcerer, the last of his species. Maybe I’m also remembering the black mage from the Final Fantasy franchise… anyway, this model by Alex Jones is a perfect likeness, and I must say, fantastic use of the hands from Bigfig Sandy from the Monkie Kid theme. The hat is made from separate segments joined around his bright azure ears.

Miniature tree inspires an even more miniature LEGO model

Sometimes smaller is better, building with a limited selection of parts can lead to creative outcomes, like this simple but beautiful bonsai tree by Louis of Nutwood built around the curved animal part. The planter sits on a wooden tray just like the official LEGO Bonsai tree set, albeit using a mere fraction of the brown tiles.

Horsing around under the sea with this LEGO seahorse

I have nothing but respect for any LEGO builder who participates in any Iron Builder challenge, the fan-driven challenge where a single seed piece is used in inspiring ways. The latest example is this build by -LittleJohn, where the seed part is the wind-up key in dark orange. Not only does it work perfectly as the wobbly bits along the seahorse’s back, but it also makes up the long kelp strings, held together by Minifig hands.

LEGO BrickHeadz 40539: Ahsoka Tano – The 150th BrickHeadz set [Review]

The LEGO BrickHeadz theme has continued to be a fan favorite over the years, with many of LEGO’s popular themes getting characters, from Star Wars, to Marvel, to Ninjago, and many other popular culture characters. LEGO builders have also been inspired to create their own creations in the BrickHeadz style. When the LEGO Ideas team put the vote to fans about which theme should feature the special 150th BrickHeadz character, Star Wars was the winning theme, and with the recent live-action debut of a long-time fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano, during Season Two of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, the choice of characters was clear, and one that is bound to thrill fans of the Star Wars franchise and of the BrickHeadz theme. LEGO BrickHeadz 40539:
Ahsoka Tano includes 164 pieces and will be available on January 1st, 2022 for US $9.99 | CAN $12.99 | UK £9.99

An ominous oasis in the desert is full of charm

This Egyptian temple at the edge of an oasis is more than just a stack of tan bricks. Sebeus I makes good use of stickers from the Pharaoh’s Quest LEGO theme for the tall pinnacle in the foreground, but the star of this build is the large hieroglyphics across the front of the temple, constructed using slopes and some clever sideways-facing plates and tiles. The entrance uses some simple textures to create visual interest, and those statues of Anubis flanking the doorway are very accurate.

LEGO Monkie Kid 80036: The City of Lanterns – The Monkie Kid city we’ve been waiting for [Review]

Ever since the Monkie Kid theme first launched, there have been many amazing sets, featuring huge mechs and mech-like figures, bright and colorful fully over-the-top vehicles and accessories, and a whole host of villains and minions. But aside from a few small buildings, and a headquarters on a cargo boat, there has not been much in the way of shops or restaurants to populate the world the characters live in. All that is about to change with LEGO 80036: The City of Lanterns. A stacked city scene consisting of eight individual buildings attached to a two-level structure complete with an elevated train. I am super excited about this set, and can’t wait to break it all down for you.

The City of Lanterns comes with 2,197 pieces and will be available on January 1st, for US $149.99 | CAN $179.99 | UK £114.99

Star Wars isn’t just about fast ships and gunfights

It’s also about stunning vistas, and run-down buildings at the far edge of the galaxy. In this scene by GorillaGluedLEGO featuring a weather-worn structure in the middle of a jungle landscape, a lone figure feeds a small critter. He looks like a simple Bith trying to make his way in the universe. Or her way, it’s hard to tell with Bith, and most Star Wars names are pretty ambiguous. At any rate, there are lots of great details in this somewhat chaotic scene. The foreground is cluttered with various broken things, including an astromech, and what looks like a moisture vaporator, although it feels a bit out of place in a jungle. The building has some wonderful worn effects using color and texture to distress the exterior. There is another nice part usage in the vines wrapped around the trees, made from the plastic bit that is found surrounding leaf elements.
