LEGO BrickHeadz 40539: Ahsoka Tano – The 150th BrickHeadz set [Review]

The LEGO BrickHeadz theme has continued to be a fan favorite over the years, with many of LEGO’s popular themes getting characters, from Star Wars, to Marvel, to Ninjago, and many other popular culture characters. LEGO builders have also been inspired to create their own creations in the BrickHeadz style. When the LEGO Ideas team put the vote to fans about which theme should feature the special 150th BrickHeadz character, Star Wars was the winning theme, and with the recent live-action debut of a long-time fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano, during Season Two of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, the choice of characters was clear, and one that is bound to thrill fans of the Star Wars franchise and of the BrickHeadz theme. LEGO BrickHeadz 40539:

Unboxing the parts, instructions, and sticker sheets

On the front of the box, Ahsoka is shown holding her twin lightsabers with blue blades, since this is the Clone Wars era version of the character from the final 7th season of the animated series. The number indicator in the lower right is shown in gold, designating this as the special 150th BrickHeadz set.

The side of the box features Ahsoka in action in a still from The Clone Wars, while the back shows the finished model along with her display stand. There are also two more images from the final few episodes of Season 7.

Inside the box, there are 4 unnumbered bags, an instruction booklet, and a single plate for the display stand.

The set includes two printed elements, both 1×4 tiles with her iconic facial pattern on her brow and cheeks.

The build

The build starts out simply enough with the torso, which is fairly similar to other BrickHeadz sets.

It is not long before we get our first interesting assembly, using one of the newer 2×2 plates with a perpendicular 1×2 plate, used here to create an open collar top.

From here, we start the head in a very predictable way, with a row of tall bricks with 4 studs on one side. We also get Ahsoka’s arms, which are bare on top, with gray gauntlets. The back of her head includes the first top part of the three head-tails or montrals that are common characteristics of the Togruta species

The core construction of Ahsoka’s head includes another row of the tall SNOT bricks (Studs Not On Top), and the tops of her head montrals are made with a combination of sloped white pieces.

As we move on to Ahsoka’s face, the printed tiles and the gray headband are the perfect details to bring this character to life.

The next part of the build includes part of Ahsoka’s two side montrals, and the completed back one, using a bunch of the angled 1×2 curved slopes in white and blue.

Before completing her two side montrals, we quickly build her legs, which are pretty standard, with the exception of a few headlight bricks with tiles for her shin guards.

Now it is time to finish the distinctive head tails which capture the striped look of the character very well.

And finally, lightsabers in hand, she is ready to put the beat-down on Darth Maul, and make her daring escape from the Venator class cruiser during the tragedy of Order 66.

The finished model

The finished model is a very accurate portrayal of the character and is sure to be very popular with fans.

Conclusions and recommendations

Of all the Star Wars characters that have received the BrickHeadz treatment, this is one of my all-time favorites, along with Boba Fett, and little baby Grogu, and I would recommend it to anyone who is a Star Wars fan, either of the animated shows, or of the new live-action offerings on Disney+, and especially for any fans of Ahsoka, this set would make a great addition to your collection. And at the usual single character BrickHeadz price, it is also a decent parts pack.
