Mainmain’s Micro Space Ships

Classic-Spacer and Flickrite Mainman posted a bunch of micro ships today, but my favorite is definitely a recreation of everybody’s favorite Classic Space set, 497 Galaxy Explorer:

Those clear 1×1 slope pieces are certainly starting to come in handy for micro-scale builders!

Blocklog. Meh.

As I explained back in September, I originally named this blog without giving much thought to the proper nomenclature for LEGO elements, or bricks. “Brickblog” might have been a better choice, and as the vision for this blog has evolved, turning into a bit of a LEGO Boing Boing, “Brick Brick” might have been an even better choice. Unfortunately, since I first started blogging last July, both of those good ideas have been snatched up by other, smarter LEGO bloggers (BrickBlog and Brick Brick).

Now that this blog is no longer just mine, I’ve removed “Dunechaser’s” from the banner, leaving just “Blocklog.” Meh.

So, I’m trying to come up with a new name for the-LEGO-blog-formerly-known-as-Dunechaser’s-Blocklog. What say, you, loyal readers? Post your ideas as comments here, send me an e-mail, or discuss your ideas in this thread over on Classic-Castle Forums. If Josh and I like and use your idea, I’ll send you a prize! You have until next Monday at midnight (PST or GMT-8) (rather, Tuesday morning at midnight), or until Josh and I have enough ideas to pick from.

Okay, go!

Fine print: I haven’t decided on a prize yet. It’ll be LEGO of some sort. You might like it, you might not. Since this is the Internet, I’m afraid I’m going to restrict this to adults. Sorry kids and teenagers. Feel free to vent your frustration at my (and life’s) unfairness. I understand.

Ninja + Steampunk = HEAD EXPLOSION!

From Izzo we’ve had a Ninja Mecha. I’ve made a Robot Ninja and Lukas W.P. built a Space Ninja.

Well, Linus Bohman has taken ninja mashup LEGO to a new, cranium-exploding level with … Steampunk Ninja!!! Woo hoo! Behold the awesomeness:

Here’s a closeup of the ninja, with his steam-power enhanced bow:

The ninja’s soon-to-be-dead target (dirty foreign barbarian with your silly crossbow blunderbuss!):

Bohman has included lots of interesting details that flesh out the concept of “Asian steampunk,” so be sure to check out the full gallery on Brickshelf.

Wow. Too much good stuff today. I have to go lie down now.

Sugegasa’s Fig-10

Sugegasa has been posting almost nothing but mecha lately, but he’s taken a break to post an Exo-Force minifig dubbed simply “Fig-10” with some rather interesting shoulder armor:

He also uses that same hair to create a “flame-punch” effect with another minifig:

Gilligan, Malcolm, and Robot B9 minifigs

What a great day for minifigs! (There’s more coming soon.) Janey Cook has updated her minifig folder, and since I haven’t seen this folder before myself, they’re all new to me!

First up, the crew and passengers of the S.S. Minnow from the classic TV show Gilligan’s Island:

In the middle of this batch, naturally, the world’s most dysfunctional family, from Malcolm in the Middle:

Finally, the Robinsons and fellow crewmembers of the Jupiter 2 — from another classic TV show, Lost in Space:

Although Janey says there are a few torso stickers among the figs, these are overall a great collection of purist(ish) minifigs! Be sure to check out the full gallery for even more sets, including characters from Clue, Inspector Gadget, The Brady Bunch, and others.

Mononoke, Gundam, and Sailor Moon

Moko has been updating his minifigs fairly regularly, and I’ve missed a couple, so here’s a nice batch of anime-themed minifigs.

From director Hayao Miyazaki’s film Princess Mononoke, first up we have Ashitaka and San:

And some soldiers from the same film:

Next, a minifig dressed as Gundam:

Finally, a character from Sailer Moon (sorry, I have no knowledge of the show whatsoever):

Supersized Mantis

In his Octan Refinery (previous post), Mark Stafford included several tiny yet awesome gunships:

In this thread on Classic-Space.com, Mark announces the minifig-scale version of this gunship, dubbed the Mantis:

Welcome, Josh!

“Dunechaser’s Blocklog” has evolved quite a bit since I first launched it last year. I first envisioned it as nothing more than a showcase for my own LEGO creations, but then I just couldn’t help posting the best creations I found on sites like Brickshelf and Flickr. With so much good stuff out there, keeping up with it has become a bit of a challenge (and quite a time commitment).

To help make your experience here on this blog even better, I’m pleased to announce that Josh Wedin has joined the Blocklog team! Josh is an all-around great guy who’s active in the LEGO community, so many of you may recognize his name.

But enough from me — I’ll let Josh tell you about himself. So, welcome to the team, Josh!

Ninjas 4Evah!

I sure hope we never see the end of ninja LEGO creations. Here’s Nelson Yrizarry’s “Ninja Training Camp.” Natually, it’s totally sweet, with a secret entrance, lookout holes, and everything else a ninja clan needs to get ready for their next mission.

Be sure to check out all the pictures in the Brickshelf gallery, which includes lots of action shots of ninjas training:

Whoa — this hall is dangerous!

I was never a fan of the Resident Evil games (the controls were just too nightmarishly clumsy). But who cares — I always like to see minifigs based on video games. Richard McCarthy recently posted a batch of cool minifigs based on the series.

Here’s the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team from the original Resident Evil:

And the crew from Resident Evil 4:

Of Monks and Treasure Guards

Hurray! marakoeschtra has added two more castle characters — an “illuminator” and two “treasure guards”:

Holy Batcave, book316!

Not to be outdone by the recently released, official 7783 Batcave set, Brickshelfer book316 has posted a highly detailed Batcave that incorporates many elements that should be familiar to Batman comic book fans.
