Micro SD Gundam Mobile Suits by mumu

For those of you not privileged to live through the 1980s in Japan, SD Gundam was a series of toys, TV shows, and movies spun off from Gundam, featuring squashed, itty bitty (“super-deformed”) versions of the venerable Mobile Suits.

Mumu‘s recreation of the main Mobile Suits includes Gundam, Guntank, and several more. Click the image above to check out mumu’s blog post, or see full-size pictures in his Brickshelf gallery.

The Night Watch by Jonathan Watts

Jonathan Watts (Flickr) presents a scene inspired by the cover art for Terry Pratchett’s The Night Watch, which was naturally inspired by the book itself, as well as by Rembrandt’s painting of the same name. Take that, Plato!

Please welcome Nannan Z to The Brothers Brick!

Regular readers of The Brothers Brick should recognize Nannan’s name from all the weird and wonderful creations of his that we’ve featured here.

So it’s a pleasure and an honor to welcome Nannan as a contributor to The Brothers Brick! Looking through his Brickshelf gallery (where you may know him as “a-tree”) and Flickr photostream, you’ll see that we’ve missed far too many of his excellent creations. Since we encourage our contributors to blog their own builds, problem solved!

Nannan is a builder who isn’t afraid to use a little bley, and his surreal creations are like nobody else’s:

A cool bonus of the fact that Nannan has been featured in BrickJournal (in Issue 9) is that we also know what he looks like! Here he is with one of his signature alien beasties:

Welcome to the team, Nannan!

Steam-powered flamethrower by Rock

Not sure what to do with the excess energey generated by the boiler on your tractor (which just happens to have extremely outsized treads)? Then Rock has the solution: Shoot it out the front at anything that stands in your way!

FX23 Ferrari Racing Mecha by Chuck

I’m a sucker for mecha with mono-wheels for feet, like this anime-inspired racer by Chuck.

Kaitimar’s Steam Tractor

Kaitimar put this adorable tractor in his steampunk folder, but I swear I’ve seen this at a county fair…

Wind, bird, and tree / Water, grass, and light...

It’s not often I attempt to honor someone I’ve actually met in real life as a minifig.

In one of my “other” (non-LEGO) lives, I write poetry. Earlier this year, I took a class at Richard Hugo House from one of my favorite poets, David Wagoner. I spent ten weeks listening to David’s stories about studying under Theodore Roethke and his friendships with poets as diverse as Dylan Thomas and Richard Hugo (the poet whose name graces Hugo House). I also learned a lot about my craft — David’s feedback helped me truly grow as a writer.

Adding to my other Northwest poet minifigs, here’s David in LEGO form:

You can read some of David’s poems on Poets.org.

Mike Yoder’s Pirate Fleet

Mike Yoder‘s pirate fleet is growing — in more ways than one! Starting with the smallest ship on the left, Mike has increased the size of his vehicles with each new ship. My favorite is his newest — the big one in the middle.

And I love the crew:
