What’s the first thing everyone says when they try Minecraft? “It’s like building with Lego!” And to me, Minecraft really is the perfect Lego-esque game. So, it was natural to combine two of my favorite things, which already seemed destined to be together. Some of you may have seen this at Brickcon 2011 back in October where I displayed it, but now it’s finally online just in time for the official game release date tomorrow!

A LEGO study of classic lines and curves
Cars symbolize so much; we judge people on their taste in cars, we always have aspritions for bigger, sportier, faster cars…but I’m telling you. While I appreciate a lovely car myself, very very few of them make me smile like a 1950s Chevy.
Yep.
So, kudos to you, Patrick. It’s just gorgeous.
Best MOCs of 2011 from France
As much as Lego is a worldwide hobby, it’s not easy to be aware of what people from other countries are building, especially if they are not active in the English-speaking communities that we often visit. I’m glad that Olivier (LegoManiac) sent me a link to the nominees for the best MOCs of 2011 on Brickpirate, the largest online French Lego community.
Fortnight to go for 7777 Redux contest
Just a reminder that there’s only a fortnight to go in the 7777 Redux contest. Enter and you could become the proud new owner of a 10219 Maersk train, 7937 Train Station or 7936 Level Crossing.
All entries must be in by midnight 30th November on the east side of the date line. If your clock says Nov 30th you’ll be fine.
A better LEGO boat
While some purposes may require a bigger boat, de-marco delivers one of the best LEGO boats I’ve seen in quite a while, replete with rigging, radar, and rubber tires. This presentation on the rippled, reflective surface is also lovely.
Via twee affect.
This post was brought to you by the letter R.
A Ronin’s Duty
It’s rare to see a LEGO torii that has the correct proportions, but this one by Shannon Young looks like it would be perfect on a mountain path leading up to a Shinto shrine. It’s also quite nice in this LEGO scene featuring a ronin taking a final journey.
Free shipping from LEGO Shop through Dec 12 [News]
The LEGO Shop online is continuing free shipping for all orders over $99.00 through mid-December, ending December 12.
A fair proportion of the 2012 LEGO sets are also online now.
And don’t forget that you can pick up a free LEGO Star Wars ARF Trooper with the code 4TBB (US) or TBBO (CA).
UPDATE 1: The LEGO Shop team have informed us that the checkout system has experienced a problem recently while applying the promotional code, preventing the ARF Trooper from being added visibly to the the shopping cart at checkout. ARF Trooper supplies have not run out, and they are correctly being included in your orders.
Update 2: For those of you like me who noticed last night that the second of two Christmas vignettes was available for purchase at $10, this was also an inventory/website mistake. It will be available for free with orders over $99 during Black Friday weekend next week.
Cole Blaq Pushes the Boundaries of Lego
Cole Bl♠q routinely challenges the conceptions of how we use the Lego medium. Continuing his on-going theme of spray cans is his latest sculpture, a viscerally organic interpretation. It is striking and beautiful, in a way not often seen in Lego. It’s not purist–that is, the effect is not achieved with 100% unmodified Lego pieces–but the result is no less spectacular.
Knight’s Quest for the Colossal Castle Contest
It’s two weeks in, and the entries so far for Classic-Castle‘s annual contest are just superb. I do not envy the judges. This particular one by Stefan (busboy489) caught my eye, and I just had to share it. The details in each scene are exquisite. I invite you to check each one out!
Win LEGO Super Hero minifigs early here on TBB + official contest deadline Nov 15
LEGO was kind enough to send us a pair of the LEGO Super Hero minifigs distributed exclusively at Comic-Con in San Diego earlier this year, and we’re going to give them away to two TBB readers. One reader gets Superman Batman, and another gets Green Lantern!
To enter this raffle, just leave a comment on this post (tips on registering and commenting). In two weeks, on Monday, November 28, we’ll randomly select two people who left comments before 11:59 PM PST November 27.
Fine print: The raffle is open to TBB readers worldwide 18 years old and older. We’ll add to the fine print as people ask questions, but let’s keep it simple for now.
If you’d like to win all the 2012 LEGO Super Heroes: DC Universe sets, LEGO is also hosting a contest on LEGOSuperheroes.com:
Enter the LEGO Super Heroes Challenge for a chance to win the Grand Prize, a trip to California to tour Warner Bros. Studios, WB Animation, and LEGOLAND California, and the complete 2012 LEGO Super Heroes: DC Universe collection. Plus get your work displayed online for other LEGO Super Heroes fans to admire.
Check out the website for more details.
Superheroes battle evil at the Daily Planet
German builder Thorsten Bonsch has been building daily for the past 2 months on this action-packed diorama for LEGO’s Superhero contest. A lot of custom decals add details and realism such as in this close-up shot. Check out the full backstory of this creation on MOCPages showing all of the action, as well as work-in-progress and design pictures.
Titolian’s Glass Fighter Shows Off
Théo’s (aka Titolian) newest fighter is encased entirely in transparent pieces, and the effect is stunning. In rebellion to conventional Lego Spacer protocol, Théo has thrown all the greeblies in the interior of his spaceship, but only because he’s found an immensely clever way of still showing them off.
