Hien’s Hayate… better late than never

Brickshelf builder HIEN has come up with (well did come up with… it’s really rather late to post about) what I’d consider one of, if not the, best small scale WWII planes in LEGO. The entire thing is a big ball of complex genius and I, for one, am sold.

Is your name Mater too?

Steven Marshall‘s name isn’t Mater, but this little truck from Cars goes by that name:

And don’t miss Dave Teague’s Lightning McQueen I blogged last year.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Matt De Lanoy demonstrates that something you made yourself is so much more meaningful than a bunch of plants you buy on the Internet. And besides, plastic flowers last a lifetime:

Dr. Crow and his Mechanical Creations

Forum 0937 member rupi puts Chris Bragg‘s arm replacement technique to good use with Dr. Crow, a mad scientist.

(If you don’t already know how to put a robot arm on a minifig, you can read the how-to on Chris’s old blog.)

Squieu’s Green Guy

At first glance, this new mecha by squieu reminded me of the “Robonoid” by comic I blogged back in 2005, but with the usual squieu detail, there’s a lot going on in this little thing:

Arpy’s Rediculously Pacifistic Sea Turtle apparently needs your vote

So, Josh and I have both been sick and/or busy, and even though we have a completed interview with Bionicle builder Breann Sledge, we haven’t had time to post it yet. I promise that we’ll post it very soon — sorry Breann.

To tide everyone over, here’s a little something for the current Bionicle Building Contest over on BZPower, by BioniBlogger Arpy (aka Patuara):

Arpy clearly understands that presentation is important, and he uses good lighting and a neutral background to showcase his turtle. I think many LEGO builders — including lots of Bionicle fans — could learn something from Arpy. Just sayin’. ;-)

Yes, but how many eels can it deploy?

I remember seeing this at BrickFest, but I can’t remember who the builder was, and dadio‘s Brickshelf user name isn’t much help. Anyway, here’s his U.S. Navy LCAC:

And in case my reference is too obscure, a YouTube video for you to view.

Atomictron 7 by Jamie Neufeld

Jamie Neufeld presents a retro-ish robot dubbed “The Quantum Super Thunder Galactic Robo Fighter – Atomictron 7″ (I kid you not):

There are no studs in Belville

Not exactly, but Izzo says that Belville figures “Have so very few studs, so few studs…” Regardless, he manages to fit a Belville fig into a sweet purple power suit:

While we’re at it, here’s Izzo’s previous powered armor for a Belville fig:

If that’s not enough of a Belville fix for you, a quick search on Flickr will reveal several more interesting creations.

(No. I refuse to add a Belville category. You can’t make me.)

Micro 6086 Black Knight’s Castle by lovebacu

Brickshelf user lovebacu has miniaturized 6086 Black Knight’s Castle (via Klocki):

By the way, whenever I blog someone new, I always try to find their real name, blog, or Web site to give proper credit. In searching the Web for lovebacu’s user name, I discovered several Korean LEGO communities, including BrickInside, where lovebacu seems to be a member (though I’m not sure, since I don’t actually read Korean).

If you’re a reader in Korea and you have suggestions for Korean LEGO blogs or forums we should include in our links, please let us know!

도와줘서 고마워요. ;-)

Short Circuit’s Johnny 5 by Steven Marshall

We like reader submissions! Steven Marshall used the Contact page to let us know about his cool new Johnny 5 robot from the 1986 movie Short Circuit:

(I know, dear readers, we don’t post everything you send us. I’ll set up a separate submissions page that might help explain why.)

Genghis Khan 1162-1227

My brother and I built this when he visited months ago, but I somehow missed photographing and posting it. Anyway, here’s how I’ve always imagined Genghis Khan (undeterred, it would seem, by the historical record):

IHI-HD by Izzo

Izzo has posted a new series in his IHI line of mecha — this time a trio of construction robots:

The purple flame is the key…

Indeed it is, Steve Vargo
