Imagine Rigney built a Reaper from Mass Effect 3 with full posability and movable faceplates that reveal a light-up laser eye. I really like this shot that shows the massive size of the Reaper towering over a microscale city. Check out MOCpages for more photos.
Evan B. (Lego Junkie) has built a scene from Call of Duty Black Ops II, I know nothing of the game, and Evan admits to not playing it himself. However, what I do know is that this is one rockin’ example of how to build decay. That diner sign is an absolute thing of beauty!
One benefit of getting together with other LEGO fans at local club meetings is that you get to hear the thought process that goes into their LEGO models. Shawn Snyder (Flickr) has been building fantastic character sculptures for years — remember his amazing Predator bust? — and lately he’s been bringing his figures to SEALUG meetings long before he posts them online.
One of his recent figures is the villainous Venom, here taking down Spider-Man. Venom’s brick-built spider logo and teeth are particularly nice.
What’s fascinating about Shawn’s building style is that he says he never starts with a particular scale in mind. He always starts by working at building a head until it looks right, and then he works his way down (or not, in the case of his large-scale busts). Shawn’s characters are also nearly always articulated, and he incorporates structural support to enable dynamic posing. My brain just doesn’t work like that.
Since it looks like we missed it when he posted it after Emerald City Comic Con last year, here’s Shawn’s awesome Altaïr from the original Assassin’s Creed.
I can’t wait to see what he’ll bring to the SEALUG display at ECCC this year, in just a couple of weeks.
Bart De Dobbelaer has built a classic “baddie”, the Cacodemon, from the iconic and controversial video game “DOOM“. It is so perfect (and adorable) I need one…or three.
EDIT: I had originally written that the Cacodemon was introduced in DOOM 2, but I was in error. Many thanks to Peter Morris for the correction!
Peter L. Morris was commissioned by Digital Reality to build LEGO examples of some of the aircraft from their XBOX Live game Sine Mora. Peter’s unique starfighter style translated very well for both of these planes. Big congrats to Peter on the commission, and a job well done!

Cam M. built himself a nifty little stand to hold his iPhone so that he can actually steer while playing car racing games. Cam utilized a Smallworks Brickcase to attach the phone, but it would still be possible to do something like this without such a case. I think I may have just found myself a project for this weekend.

In January 2007, Mike Crowley began building all the major characters from Nintendo’s Mario Kart games, starting with King Koopa himself, Bowser.

Mike brought all of these to BrickFest PDX 2007 in Portland, where he had them all in karts that I don’t think ever ended up online (if I remember correctly, Mike hadn’t taken pictures of them in their karts yet before the con, and the figures broke on their way home to Boston). Convention photos are never as good as a builder’s own, but I did manage to snag a shot of all of them together:
BrickFest PDX was of course the LEGO convention where Mike, Caylin, Josh, and I all went out for Chinese at a place called “House of Louie.” We all piled into Portland’s light rail system (MAX), crossed the Willamette River, and got off somewhere that we thought would have better restaurants than the ones around the Oregon Convention Center (remember, smartphones with Yelp and local search weren’t as ubiquitous as they are five years later).
Appropriately and strangely, a white LEGO horse stood on a counter near our booth.
The Like a Boss contest sponsored by The Brothers Brick to build a video game boss recently concluded with some spectacular entries. The winners received their share of a $500 prize pool donated by our blog. Check out who won and see all the entries on Flickr.

Marvel and LEGO have just announced another video game from TT Games, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. The game will feature an original storyline and is due out this autumn.

Speaking of Legends of Chima, today WB Interactive officially announced a set of three new games based on the theme.
The first game, LEGO® Legends of Chima ™: Speedorz ™ (whose name is trademarked in various ways, in case you missed it) launches today on LEGO.com and iOS (iPhone and iPad), while LEGO® Legends of Chima ™: Laval’s Journey will be released on handheld game platforms from Nintendo and Sony this summer.
Later in the year, LEGO® Legends of Chima ™ Online launches as a free-to-play “online world.” (And no, this isn’t the MMO based on Collectible Minifigures announced earlier this summer.)
