Even if you’re not an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo gamer yourself, and even if you’ve never played one of the many LEGO games, it’s hard not to appreciate the strange and stunning LEGO creations inspired by video games. Look for lots of LEGO models inspired by Halo, the Legend of Zelda, Gears of War, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and more. Game on!

Gravity ends as the race begins...

When it comes to futuristic racing games, the Wipeout series has been going strong since it first appeared on the Playstation back in 1995. Thanks to Volker Brodkorb, we can now enjoy two Wipeout racers in LEGO form, such as this sleek-looking bad-boy. The builder has done an excellent job at using curved slope elements and hinges to form the aerodynamically shaped body. The red, white and blue color scheme is also particularly well-executed.

Next up is an exciting ride comprised of dark blue and different shades of gray.

The split down the front-end of this flying vehicle makes for an excellent contrast to the first model. This one also makes good use of custom cut stickers from the Ninja Turtles Shellraiser.

Finish him!

“Get over here!” for a pair of cute but deadly BrickHeadz characters by Julius von Brunk. They are none-other than Scorpion and Sub-Zero from the hit arcade fighting game franchise, Mortal Kombat. The two figures are instantly recognizable, and I especially like how Julius used two different slopes to form the shapes of their masks. I can almost imagine a fatality move involving a brick separator, which begs the question…Do BrickHeadz have green or red blood?

Dare you face the giant lord in his Profaned Capital?

One of the more interesting video games in terms of story recently has been the Dark Souls series with its subtle lore. Revan New has created this visually impressive diorama of the Profaned Capital from Dark Souls 3 with hardly any description, save for it being inspired by said videogame. With imposing pillars and arches set in a rocky environment, this is definetely one of the most memorable areas of the game.

Not even brick can save you from me!

We’ve seen a multitude of characters built by YOS Bricks in BrickHeadz form and otherwise, inspired by everything from Disney movies like Wreck it Ralph to Blizzard games. A strange mix indeed, and the collection of Blizzard Brickheadz has been flying under the radar so far. But now, with the addition of the Prime Evil Diablo from Diablo III and his host Leah, it is about time Yos Bricks’ “BlizzHeadz” get some recognition!

YOS Bricks takes the popular theme of Brickheadz to its limits and further with his builds, and the builder has declared that the Diablo figure in particular was the hardest so far. It is very complex while still keeping the basic BrickHeadz look. The ribbed horns are captured really well with the use of hinge bricks and 1×2 plates with door rail. Other characteristics like the iconic forehead and patterns on the demon’s body are also captured perfectly. The addition of Leah in the picture adds a bit of a sad tone to those more familiar with the story.

A great yellow spaceship that isn’t from Star Wars

When it comes to building a spaceship with character, sometimes the spaces in between the LEGO elements are just as important, if not more so, than the parts themselves. A good gap or connection can provide the perfect breathing room or white space in a model. This craft, known as the Vulture, from the upcoming video game Star Citizen, by GolPlaysWithLego is packed with some very nice details. One of the most interesting of which would have to be the post-production effects used to place the vessel in action.

One of my absolute favorite details is the use of two black roller-skates on either side of the black 1×2 ingot just behind the front cockpit (and another on each of the forward arms). Another well-placed mini-figure accessory is the ice skate. Finally, the builder achieves a half-plate gap behind a pair of cheese slopes attached to headlight bricks.

A super airship Odyssey

Daniel Church must love airships. The latest addition to his oeuvre, The Odyssey from Super Mario Odyssey, is the result of a well-documented 3-month building and planning process. It is also a result of Daniel’s exploration of the form over the past nine years—not least of which is the Fortnite Battle Bus we recently highlighted.

There are many subtle details to admire in this build: the slight flare of the upper panels, the use of nearly 50 LEGO rubber bands for ribbing, the Zamor sphere used as a globe, and so many elegant curves.

The Dragon King reigns supreme: this amazing LEGO model of Final Fantasy X’s Bahamut uses over 10,000 pieces

Marius Herrmann used over 10,000 LEGO elements to create this massive model of Bahamut from Final Fantasy X. The so-called dragon king has a wingspan of almost a meter. But most impressively, this stunning creation makes great use of underrepresented colors in the LEGO palette.

The dragon becomes me!

LEGO and gaming go together hand in hand, but with all the videogame-themed creations being shared around the web, Overwatch seems to be the most frequent inspiration these days. This Japanese-style sci-fi sword by Sean Mayo takes loose inspiration from Genji’s weapon in Overwatch, but still brings a bit of its own style to the table.

The blade is built to be as sturdy as possible — one of our contributors swung it around at a LEGO convention recently — and yet it sacrifices nothing in terms of aesthetics. The blade uses different shades of green to achieve a subtle glowing effect, though what we see in this photo is either digital editing or a photography trick. The hilt is beautiful, using inverted and squeezed tyres to give it a wrapped look. One of my favourite parts is the round guard, cleverly using some slopes’ undersides so the shape flows smoothly into the blade.

When it comes to building your experience points, Squall’s gunblade is a simply striking solution.

Back in 1999, the Sony PlayStation was the undisputed king of home video game consoles. If you owned a PlayStation and were a fan of turn-based RPGs (role-playing games), Squaresoft delivered a treat in the form of Final Fantasy VIII. Those of you who’ve played the game will instantly recognize this awesome model of Squall’s Gunblade by Letranger Absurde. I think it’s safe to say Letranger Absurde has earned enough experience points with The Brothers Brick to level up!

Drop in and set Frontier worlds ablaze

The fun, fast-paced action of Titanfall 2 multiplayer is what hooks me in, but with my latest LEGO Titan I wanted to show appreciation for its well crafted single player campaign. To make a Titan build unique to campaign styling, I chose to build Kane’s Scorch Titan, the first boss Jack Cooper and BT-7274 fight in the campaign. Kane was like a stereotypical multiplayer gamer: overconfident, calling his opponents “scrub,” and easily defeated.

The LEGO cargo hauling Shell-Walker from Horizon Zero Dawn

German LEGO builder Marius Herrmann has quite an expansive army of LEGO ancient machines from Horizon: Zero Dawn. His latest, the Shell-Walker, is one of his most detailed machines yet. I love the way he achieved the pattern on the hexagonal container as well as his use of orange roller skates for the shield-generator claw and subtle mechanical bits on the legs.

Marius’s Shell-Walker features an incredible range of motion, and the container on the back can be separated from the body.

Prepare to drop into a battle royale in a LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus

Where are we dropping, boys? Daniel Church shows his love for the wildly popular multiplayer Battle Royale mode in Fortnite with his LEGO rendition of the Battle Bus. The blue bus is well detailed, cleverly utilizing minifigure metal detectors as rearview mirrors and with overall shaping on point. Combined with a detailed hot air balloon rig and mount, his Battle Bus model looks straight out of the game.
