New LEGO Star Wars 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon unveiled as largest LEGO set ever [News]

The new 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon has been one of the worst-kept secrets in LEGO’s history, with numerous teasers and leaks over the past several months. However, while the set’s existence may not be a surprise, we finally have all of the official details straight from LEGO HQ. The new UCS Falcon will include 10 minifigs, and clocks in at a whopping 7,541 pieces, comparable to the massive 7,500-piece LEGO Falcon built by Swiss LEGO fan Hannes Tscharner. This makes the new Falcon the largest LEGO set ever released. The set will hit stores on October 1st for $799.99, and will be available early for VIP members beginning Sept. 14.

Back in 2007, I attended BrickFest PDX in Portland, Oregon, where LEGO Master Builder Erik Varszegi unveiled the original 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon. The original UCS Falcon was built from 5,197 pieces. So, where do those extra 2,500 pieces go? First, the exterior is considerably more detailed, with a lot more tiles taking the place of plates, along with many more rounded pieces that weren’t available in 2007, including a new 4×4 quarter circle tile.

Second, confirming the speculation among LEGO Star Wars fans, the set also has several interior sections.

And finally, another reason the part count is higher is that several details can be swapped out to turn the Classic Trilogy Falcon into the Episode VII/Episode VIII Falcon, with a square sensor dish and different details on the front of the mandibles.

The designer video with set designer Hans and graphic designer Maddy showcases many of the set’s play features and design details, and is definitely worth a watch.

Your inner time-traveller may get giddy for this wonderful Ultimate Collector Series styled rendition of Doc Brown’s famous DeLorean from Back to the Future. Builder jazlecraz has faithfully recreated the classic time machine’s beautiful lines in LEGO bricks, including the signature gull-wing doors. The model uses a number of clever techniques to achieve the unique shape of the bodywork, including effective use of Mixel ball and sockets to nail some of the more difficult angles.

Minifigure scale Star Wars Imperial Shuttle Tydirium made from over 6000 LEGO bricks

Swiss builder Hannes Tscharner has crafted another Star Wars masterpiece, this time building his own UCS style model of the Imperial shuttle Tydirium from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. At 94cm wide and 102cm tall, the model stands larger than LEGO’s own 10212 Imperial Shuttle and contains more than twice as many pieces. It also features several play features including motorized folding wings, light-up engines, a full interior, and more.

UCS LEGO Star Wars U-wing gunship from Rogue One

With a pivotal role in Rogue One supported by an official 75155 Rebel U-wing Fighter LEGO set, it’s not surprising that LEGO builders have embraced the newest addition to the Star Wars fleet with custom LEGO U-wings like the one from Joshua Brooks. Taking things to the next level with his very first LEGO model posted on Flickr, Mirko Soppelsa has built a huge UCS-scale U-wing with smooth lines, great detail, and lots of functionality.

Stunning Star Wars vehicle specifications in LEGO

Robert Lundmark has been building absolutely beautiful ships and creatures from Star Wars. We recently covered his rendition on the Luggabeast, Rey’s Speeder, and Poe’s X-Wing. We were so dazzled by the builds from The Force Awakens we completely missed his absolutely beautiful specification sheets.

Each one features a detailed model, with the vehicle’s unique information. The AT-ST stands the tallest at 65cm tall. Robert has posted four different vehicles for us to oogle over; I can only hope there will be more!

Robert’s Incom T-65 X-wing starfighter includes an R2 unit with a clear dome.

UCS-style Venator-class Star Destroyer from Revenge of the Sith

The upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens LEGO sets may be getting all the attention these days, but the original trilogy and even prequel trilogy continue to provide inspiration for many LEGO builders. AdNorrel has posted a Venator-class Star Destroyer from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in the style of the large UCS LEGO sets. Built from about 2,000 LEGO elements, the Star Destroyer took about 20 days to create.

LEGO 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier – Part 1 [Review]

If anything could ever compete with the mighty Star Wars movie franchise, it’s probably going to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And this trend may be playing out in the LEGO universe too, with an ever-growing line of super hero sets that is now joined by the 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier, currently available on Amazon.

Like the 76023 Tumbler, it’s aimed at older builders and thus has limited play features. And while LEGO reserves the term Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) for its big Star Wars sets, the LEGO fan community has already started using it to describe these big super hero sets as well, for obvious reasons.

A big set deserves a big review! This review is split it into two parts. In Part 1, I focus on the ship itself, covering the build experience, structural design, and looks. In Part 2, I’ll be exploring the smaller details – including the new microfigs – and of course all the bundled minifigs. In both parts, I will also be exploring one very important question… Does it fly?

LEGO unveils the Ultimate Collector Series TIE Fighter [News]

This morning at the New York Toy Fair, LEGO revealed its latest addition to the Ultimate Collector Series (UCS), the 75095 Star Wars TIE Fighter. The set will be available directly through LEGO via their online store beginning May 2015, and is expected to retail in the US for $199.99.

Here are some details, provided by LEGO:

“This large-scale LEGO-brick rendition of the classic Imperial starfighter has intricate detailing, as well as an opening top hatch and an exclusive TIE Fighter Pilot minifigure with a blaster pistol. And when you want to keep it safe from Rebel attack, mount the model on the display stand and keep yourself updated with all the key facts and figures on the included fact plaque. The Ultimate Collector Series TIE Fighter is the perfect addition to your Star Wars collection! The UCS TIE Fighter measures 18.5in (47cm) high, 12in (30.6cm) long and 12.2in (31cm) wide.”

LEGO Star Wars 75060 UCS Slave I unveiled at BrickCon in Seattle [News]

Earlier this evening here in Seattle at BrickCon, LEGO officially unveiled the new 75060 Slave I. Unlike every other incarnation of this set, the UCS version is truly minifig-scale, and includes Boba Fett, Han Solo (with carbonite), a Bespin guard, and Stormtooper. With nearly 2,000 pieces, the set will be released in January 2015 for $200 in the US (full pricing details in the press release later in the post).

We had a chance to take a close look at the new set at BrickCon. Play features include everything you’d expect — pop-out blasters, revolving cannon, rotating wings, etc. See nearly 20 official photos in the photoset on Flickr.

LEGO Unveils UCS Dark Knight Tumbler at Comic-Con [News]

LEGO has unveiled a massive UCS-scale version of the Tumbler from The Dark Knight. The vehicle will measure over 15 inches long and 9 inches wide, has a full interior cockpit, and includes a nameplate, and Batman and Joker minifigs. Although LEGO has produced several versions of the Joker previously, this will be the first appearance of Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight. UCS Tumbler (76023) will be available in September for $199 USD, and includes 1,869 pieces. The ultimate Imperial Star Destroyer built from Lego, measuring over 2 meters long

Imagine the finesse of Jerac‘s spaceship building skills applied to a massive model: the result is this over 2 meter long Imperial Star Destroyer. It is the only large model of the ISD built using the SNOT technique. The result is a super smooth design that hardly looks like a Lego creation.
