LEGO Star Wars is one of the most popular LEGO themes of all time. Far beyond X-wings and TIE fighters, there’s a whole expanded universe of inspiration, and an army of LEGO fans ready to build whatever comes out of George Lucas’s head next.

Louie Louie!

Jared Burks collaborates with another great customizer, NickGreat, to create the Devaronian Mos Eisley Cantina denizen Labria (nicknamed “Louie” during production):

Papercraft Star Wars Minifigs

I noticed a cool papercraft stormtrooper in Brickshelf user Obi-Wan-Stefen’s gallery, who kindly provided enough info to get to i like toys, which linked to Japanese site Piro model with instructions and templates for creating your own papercraft Star Wars minifigs:

Click the pictures above to go to instruction pages on Piro model. The instructions will be in Japanese, but they’re numbered and easy enough to follow visually.

Here’s what the templates look like:

Have fun, and let us know if you try making any of these.

Mini Star Wars Vehicles by TsoAutTmo

Builders like Moko and Chris Deck are well known for their mini Star Wars models, but occasionally other builders do something original with an otherwise well-worn theme.

Here’s TsoAutTmo’s X-wing:

Great use of the new mini-slopes and the wheels as engines. See more of his mini creations on Brickshelf.

Nute Gunray by Moko

Though nearly everybody has used the head from Frankenstein’s Monster as Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray’s head, everyone seems to struggle with his headdress/hat. Moko also says he struggled, but I think Nute’s pointy hat thingie turned out rather well:

And a bonus Episode I minifig — a Naboo Security Force soldier:

Bith and Ithorian Minifigs by Moko

Looks like Moko’s officially working on a series. This time, it’s some of the most challenging characters from the Star Wars universe — the aliens.

His latest minifigs include a Bith musician from the Mos Eisley Cantina (not yet on Brickshelf):

And the Ithorian Momaw Nadon, also from the Cantina scene in A New Hope:

Jedi Master Shaak Ti by Moko

I always thought Shaak Ti was a pretty cool-looking Jedi, but never figured out how to make a brick-built version of her. Trust Moko to figure it out:

News: Pictures of Summer 2007 Star Wars Minifigs

German LEGO blog The Brick Time has noticed photos I’d missed of the new minifigs in the summer 2007 LEGO Star Wars sets.

I’m rather excited about the Naboo pilot and redesigned Anakin Skywalker minifigs in 7660 Naboo Starfighter:

But I’m very excited by Kit Fisto in 7661 Jedi Starfighter:

It’s a trap!

Adding to his collection of great brick-built Star Wars minifigs, Moko presents Admiral Ackbar:

Why wait for the UCS Millenium Falcon...

…when you can build your own? Hispalug member Joaquinito has done just that. Check out the cool cockpit design using Technic pieces:

Via Ladrillitos, where you can read more (in Spanish) and see bigger pictures. Thanks Juan!

EDIT: More pics on Brickshelf, for those so inclined.

News: More Mid-2007 Sets at Nuremburg Toy Fair

Pictures from the Nuremburg Toy Fair have shown up on Brickshelf. We’ve seen pictures of most of these sets already, and known most of them were in the pipeline, but it’s nice to see pictures — and there are a couple surprises.

EDIT: Looks like the pictures have been moved or deleted, and the folder itself is currently not public. I’ll add pictures again once they become available.

Reto Geiger’s Droid Trifighter

And straight out from the Star Wars movies, we have Reto Geiger’s Droid Trifighter:

Reto is well known in the community as a master of the UCS-scale, which basically means that he is great at building realistic replicas of the ships from the movies. Check out his UCS gallery for more examples of that.
