From giant space carriers to starfighters, moon bases to moon buggies, whether you love LEGO models inspired by real-world space programs or science-fiction, you’re in the right place.

I was caught in the middle of the railroad track!

…oh wait, nevermind, that is ‘Thunderstruck‘…this is a ‘Thunderclap‘!?!?!

All jokes aside, Nathaniel Rehm-Daly (nate_daly) has built an absolutely stunning spacecraft out of the Star Wars Universe called a BT-7 Thunderclap. I am not familiar with the source at all, but was immediately able to recognize this as a Star Wars ship. Nate has perfectly captured that rough worn aesthetic that we all love.

Thunderclap

My favourite aspect of this build has to be the seemless integration of the wing folding mechanism.

Thunderclap

This thing totally wouldn’t have looked out place sitting in my toy box circa 1985 :D

The Trinity is 3 kinds of cool.

If you are familiar with legoalbert then you know that you can expect lots of colours and interesting shapes from his creations. He certainly makes that apparent with his latest model, The Trinity.

The Trinity

By utilizing an asymmetric colour scheme, subtle but effective stickering, and a creative shape, he makes a very interesting little spacecraft. He describes it as a shuttle for a cyberpunk thug, and I think that is a perfect description. Also gotta appreciate working landing gear at this scale :D

Ralph McQuarrie’s Baseship Concept

Garry King is showing us once again that he really is the King of SHIPs (see our LEGO glossary for what it means). I am most impressed with its curvy form. It took me while to figure out how it was done so smoothly – thankfully Garry uploaded some WIP pictures too, so you can take a look at secrets behind the design. Be sure to check out his other amazing SHIPs on MOCpages if you’re still not familiar with his work.

Do you think that’s air you’re breathing now?

Sometimes you just don’t know if you are in the Matrix or not, and Pascal’s (pasukaru76) latest foray into POV-Ray renders is just one of those times.

Bakudan Render

I still find myself questioning whether that is an actual photo of LEGO or not???

Real World Fighter Contest

TR Brownridge (.Tromas) is hosting a contest over at the Starfighters flickr group. Entries close August First. Check it out.

On a Wing and Prayer

A wing, a prayer, and psionic energy are the only things keeping this glider by Jack McKeen (madLEGOman) aloft. Jack built this for a competition on FBTB, to be an aircraft themed to accompany the X-Men character Psylocke. I don’t know much about Psylocke, aside from seeing illustrations, but apparently she has psionic abilities. In keeping with her powers, the wings of the plane are attached by translucent beams of thought. They’re simply lovely to look at.

Viddy this: Alex & his three droogs

While I haven’t been able to spend a whole lot of time online the last couple months, I’ve managed to squeeze in an occasional build or two.

Sthaughot Gunship (1)

For weeks, I’ve been feeling a bit blocked on new ideas, but finally found a combination of color (orange with dark gray accents) and shape (rather bulbous) that I liked, inspired by the design of the little vehicle on the right. One baseball game later, I had a nicely swooshable gunship in my hands, followed by a couple tiny drones.

Will you think me strange if I admit that I hadn’t decided whether this was a large-ish microscale ship with supporting micro-vessels or a mid-size gunship with drones by the time I was ready to upload the photo? I’m actually still not sure…

Timeline of design

I was pleased to notice that Pierre Fieschi has given us all an insight into the design of his GAHNN Sniping Dreadnought. It’s great to see how he’s evolved the shape and colours using what looks like a mix of computer aided sketching and LEGO bricks.

Nice Curves

Tromas says that he was inspired to build this little ship by playing a video game called Phoenix. I think I need to get my hands on a copy of the game, because this looks awesome.

The cockpit is an interesting shape and opens and closes well. The color scheme and shape are pretty unique, and it’s impossible to overlook the ridiculous array of weapons.

Awesome Heroic Cyber Angel

There are good ways to blend a lot of colors in a model, and there are bad ways. Joe Perez has mastered the good way. The wings really make this model, both in technique and color.

ROVI the Recycled Robot

Here’s a perfect example of why there is no such thing as a useless piece. Even broken pieces can be used, given sufficient imagination and skill, as flickr user erth&fiya so aptly demonstrates with his adorable creation made entirely of damaged pieces.

Pointlessly Charming

This rover by Luke Hutchinson (Derfal Cadarn) was deliberately designed to be purposeless. The description mentions that it doesn’t have steering, and was built by Fool-Trons. It does however, feature tons of interesting greebles, and a very impressive diorama display.
