From giant space carriers to starfighters, moon bases to moon buggies, whether you love LEGO models inspired by real-world space programs or science-fiction, you’re in the right place.

Pierre goes big + shows off his LEGO workspace

We’re used to seeing epic microscale spaceships from Pierre E Fieschi, so this minifig-scale intercepter/bomber was a pleasant surprise. The gantry alone is fantastic, but the vehicle itself has all kinds of crazy angles and spots of color to pore over in the full-size photo.

'STALKER' INTERCEPTOR BOMBER

As much as I enjoy Pierre’s latest build, I was most intrigued recently by Pierre’s LEGO workspace:

WORKSPACE 2.0

Even his workspace is aesthetically pleasing, while remaining functional with a plexiglass surface on a turntable, surrounded by well-sorted LEGO.

Griphook CT-15 carrier by Lazer Blade

Kyle Collard (Lazer Blade) has been working on an interesting space carrier for several weeks, and just completed it yesterday. It’s got a color scheme near to my heart, with an overall structure reminiscent of some of Pierre‘s best work. But Kyle adds a combination of angles, curves, and greebling all his own for a spectacular result.

Griphook CT-15

The brick-built lettering wonderfully captures a military-industrial aesthetic, and every exposed stud looks intentional.

Ma.K-tastic

Logan (CaptainInfinity) knows just what puts a smile on my face! He has just updated his previous SAFS Space Type Fireball with some new hardware and cool little base. I haven’t built any Maschinen Krieger stuff for quite some time…but this makes me tweak!

Ma.k Fireball Dio

I love that rocket firing…but the ‘title’ on the base just makes me giggle :D

In Space, No One Can See You if You’re Stealthed

Jack McKeen’s Spaceghost craft is modeled after the F-117 Stealth Fighter, and looks like a mashup of the Nighthawk and the Space Shuttle. Jake’s done a terrific job of capturing the aesthetic of NASA craft while adding his own flair to it, creating a very unique entry to the ongoing Real World Space Fighter contest on flickr.

Sci-fi made to look real

Justin Vaughn (-Mainman-) came up with one of the most original starfighter designs I’ve seen in a long time. What also sets it apart is the docking box made out of many bars and connectors. The subtle colored elements as well are used effectively for realism and bring out points of interest.

1973 “Hercules” nuke platform by Pierre E Fieschi

Since TR has a bit of a conflict of interest as a judge for the Real World Starfighter Contest, I think it’s my duty to highlight some of the best entries so far. Not surprisingly, Pierre E Fieschi is among the builders whose work stands out.

1973 'HERCULES' NUKE PLATFORM

Pierre writes, “Disregarding the recent Non-Profileration Treaty, US government and NASA decided — instead of dismantling them — to recycle the excess amount of nukes into a new kind of space program.”

One small contest for man...

Tim previously announced the contest that Stijn (Red Spacecat) and I are running over at the Starfighters Group on flickr. Figured since it was the half way point of the contest, I would take the opportunity to spread the word a little more.

This whole contest was a total last minute whim on my part, and it was only when Stijn graciously arranged the prize sponsorship with Morebricks that it became a legitimate endeavour. So far the participation has been outstanding, with 23 entries of all shapes and sizes. I don’t want to give away my favourites quite yet, but be sure to check them all out. Personally I still haven’t built a ship for it, but my man Stijn has totally shown me how it is done with his EADS TWDS ‘LONGBOW’. As usual his presentation is rather fantastic!

EADS TWDS 'LONGBOW'

So all you space-boys and space-gilrs out there…get your bricks out and start getting creative. Lets see if we can’t get 50+ entries. You have until August 1st.

Oh yeah, one last bit of incentive…behold this swanky 1st place trophy!!!!

Onosendai does Prometheus

In what is shaping up to be a meme (how many ways can the space ship Prometheus be expressed in LEGO) , Andrew Lee graces us with a really well done interpretation of the titular movie ship. Can’t wait to see who else takes on the challenge.

Mass Effect’s UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle

Any fan of Mass Effect will no doubt recognize N-11 Ordo‘s rendition of the UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle from the games. By striving for a studless build and using custom stickers, the builder was able to create a high degree of accuracy, albeit at a sacrifice of the model’s sturdiness.

Dregant’s USCSS Prometheus costs much less than a trillion dollars

It’s great to be corrected when the correction reveals that I’ve missed something awesome. I said in my last post about Si-MOCs’ microsocale Prometheus) that I hadn’t found another LEGO version of this great ship, but Niki Dregant has in fact built a much-larger version:

LEGO Prometheus

At this scale, a whole lot more detail is possible, including lots of mechanical detail on the engines. Like the micro version, Niki’s larger version can land on its rotating nacelles. Since this is still somewhere around mini/midi-scale, my challenge to build a full minifig-scale version still stands.

Thanks for the tip, Fredo!

A beetle you don’t want to mess with!

Ted Andes (ted @ndes) utilizes System, Bionicle/Hero Factory and Technic parts to brilliant effect to make one cool looking speeder bike for the new Galaxy Patrol Collectible Minifig.

Scarab

Also have to make mention of the awesome presentation. The use of the scarab shield as the logo is superb!!

Return of Spook: YR9 Serval

YR9 Serval

After a brief absence, Tim Zarki aka spook returns with a beautiful microspace build. The scaling of the ship makes it seem very large, though it appears to be only around 20 studs long. Such adept detail work, with the varied angles, the cockpit and the studs out construction. It reminds me of dasnewton’s spaceships only in microscale. Well, I’m inspired. Welcome back spook!
