I may have just blogged something by Jimmy (6kyubi6) yesterday, but he’s on a roll, and this alien moonscape is just too cool to not highlight. The non-photoshopped planets and stars are excellently done, and the space dump truck is sweet too.

Now You Must Face the Future
It comes as no surprise that the dynamic duo Sean and Steph Mayo (Siercon and Coral) have yet again produced another stunning model that nudges the boundaries of building possibilities a little further out. The Intelligence, as this model is named, is inspired by the classic pin-art toy, and seems to be straight from the pages of a surrealism guidebook.

Hi everyone! I’m Simon and I’m ecstatic to join The Brothers Brick. When I started this whole LEGO hobby thing it was a dream just to get mentioned on TBB, and it was an unfathomable dream to someday contribute to the Blog that opened my eyes to the possibilities of LEGO.
I hail from the great white north that is Canada (eh), and I really do love poutine (just ask Brickcon people). But my true love is building and playing with LEGO – with the obligatory sound effects of course. My second love would probably be going to conventions – so if you ever see me at one, please introduce yourself!
I grew up reading science fiction books and watching sci-fi shows/movies so my builds are very skewed towards that genre, though I do dabble in other themes as well. Arguably my favorite book was Ender’s Game which was recently turned into a big budget movie.
So now you know all about me, now it’s time for me to get to work and know more about all of you and your builds!

LEGO Mars Curiosity Rover reviewed with Set Designer Stephen Pakbaz
On January 1, LEGO released the newest in the CUUSOO line, the Mars Curiosity Rover. Set designer Stephen Pakbaz submitted his design to CUUSOO, and in due time the project reached it’s 10k votes. The set was revealed at BrickWorld 2013.
We’ve previously interviewed Stephan about his work on the LEGO model–and the real Mars Curiosity Rover, currently broadening our horizons on Mars.
This fantastic video, from Your Creative Friends reviews the new set with Stephen’s walk through, explaining the instruments and their purpose while comparing the final set design to his original design. I highly encourage you to check it out!

V is for V-Wing, Among Other Things
Since 1977, there has been no shortage of Star Fighters being built inspired by various letters of the alphabet. While I don’t find the resemblance to the letter V particularly striking in this ship, I think that may be a good thing. A little subtlety in approaching the lettering system is part of what makes this ship by halfbeak () good. The use of a Christmas tree ornament for a cockpit is very well executed, and blends well with the other organic elements of the build.
Unique Starfighters are some delicious brain juice.

I am continually blown away by how creative people can be with designs of starfighters. They certainly are my favourite subject to build in, but I tend to stick pretty close to boilerplate styling. But seeing designs like these make me want to get more creative with my own builds. So on this chilly Wednesday morning, pull up a chair and sip on these steaming cups of brain juice…

Continuing with the purple and green starfighter theme is Simon Liu’s (Si-MOCs) ZorN. The wacky shaped fighter is of course for the Alphabet Contest, but it really gives this craft an alien look. My favourite detail has to be the hits of purple peeking through from between the grey wedges on the sides.
Truly Alien: A Starfighter from the Beyond
This Vic Viper-style ship built by Tyler Clites (Legohaulic) is a masterpiece of alien engineering. It’s a relatively simple build, but Tyler has made excellent use of the various rubber spikes, a great color scheme, and some top-notch presentation.
Now You See Me...
Check out this awesome mech clad in active camo armor by brick genius Cole Blaq. While Cole did use just a few modified parts in pursuit of a totally transparent machine, the build is chock full of unusual parts and clever techniques. Anyone who has ever attempted to build a complicated form using a severely limited palette will appreciate the level of skill it takes to pull off something recognizable, let alone this cool.

Pixies, Tubas and a little bit of Magic
Every so often I come the realization that there are builders out there that get overlooked. And quite often I am the one doing the overlooking. Case in point being Magic Tuba Pixie.
I was browsing through his photostream while on my lunch break today and just generally admiring the builds. But it was then that I realized I had rarely commented or acknowledged them. These were all models that I had seen before, but I simply had not made an effort to voice my appreciation of them. So now I am making up for lost time and want to share a few of my favourites.

I’m in a Star Wars sorta mood
As a child my life revolved around Star Wars, however, for the last 10 or 15 years I have somewhat lost interest in the genre. I pick up the occasional Star Wars set from time to time, but mainly for parts. However, my oldest son recently received several Star Wars sets for his birthday and it somewhat rekindled my interest in the style. Now seeing all the brilliant starfighters being created for the Alphabet Fighter Contest being held over at FBTB has made me want to explore the style even more with some of my own builds.
One of my favourites that I have stumbled upon is this Incom I-Fighter by Lego Junkie. It just has that right look to it. I would not be surprised to see this swooshing along side an X-Wing or being used to bulls-eye womp rats. This makes me really want to play Rogue Squadron on the ol’ N64.
