Just like many other artists, LEGO builders find inspiration in the music they listen to as they create the wonderful models you see here on The Brothers Brick. It’s no surprise, then, that music inspires many LEGO models more directly, from minifig musicians to album art recreated with bricks.

Fan builds epic guitar out of LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon

What could be more awesome than a guitar made of LEGO? How about a guitar made of a LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon! Korean Builder Kkaebok turned his LEGO set of Han Solo’s infamous space freighter into a radical guitar, with everything but the strings made of LEGO. Plus, the cockpit and interior light up for extra cool points. Let’s be honest: who doesn’t want a guitar made of a LEGO Millennium Falcon?

Builder mixes 70’s rock, spaceships, and LEGO

Let’s return to the 1970’s for a moment. Japan faces a serious economic crisis, President Nixon resigns from office, and rock-and-roll music has never been cooler. Back in present day, grobie built these sweet LEGO creations to honor two rock bands from the psychedelic “Me Decade.”

RBS project ELO

First up, we have Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)’s spaceship from their Out of the Blue album cover and an accompnaying Jeff Lynne minifig with acoustic guitar. You have to admit, that custom ELO paint job is downright groovy. Next up, we have Journey’s spaceship from their Escape album cover. This build also comes with a short-sleeved Neal Schon and the ship even has detachable scarab wings! Can you dig it? I can.

LEGO 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine [Review]

LEGO’s crowd-sourced Ideas platform is on a roll this year, with sets and news coming in rapid succession. Early this year we reviewed the 21305 Maze, and learned that the Apollo 11 Saturn V and Adventure Time characters will become sets. At the beginning of this month, LEGO announced the Old Fishing Store, and we reviewed the 21307 Caterham Seven 620R at its launch a few weeks ago. Now, 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine is available on The LEGO Shop. The set will retail for $59.99 USD and contains 550 pieces.

A sound blast from the past

If you like retro music production, you will love this half-size LEGO reproduction of an MPC2000 XL, a 16-bit sampler and rhythm machine from the 1990’s by Arran Hearn. The MPC2000 XL is a straight classic in the hip-hop industry that is still widely used today, and Arran has captured its chunky looks, retro styling and all the buttons, knobs and sliders in this fantastic build.

This LEGO sampler also has a play feature, as the floppy disc is fully ejectable from the disc drive. But sadly it will not turn you into a hip-hop star.

One step beyond

It must be love! The original Brick Nerd Tommy Williamson has built this fine LEGO facsimile of a classic album cover. But there is a method to Tommy’s, erm, madness. The theme of this year’s BrickCon is Madness and as life long Ska fans, Tommy and I are very excited that the organizers have decided to honor one of our favorite bands in this fashion. To celebrate, this year’s Bricks of Character display will be suitably themed, from the trophies, to the badge bricks, and maybe even our outfits. So come visit our house, in the middle of the Con, and prepare for a cardiac arrest!

Top brass

Japanese builder -Grie- built this pair of LEGO musical instruments that are not only life-sized but also seem accurate down to the last curve, key, and even spit valve! I’m not sure what sounds can be made by these facsimiles, but they’re probably better than anything I could produce using the real versions.

Bobblehead punk rocker made out of LEGO

This LEGO punk rocker by LegoJalex looks like he can really shred. In addition to the spectacularly clean lines and colorful composition of this build, there are some really great details including a whammy bar and what I can only assume is a wallet chain. I also adore that little green mouse.

Rockie

Best of all, this LEGO musician is a bobblehead! Check out the video below to see him in action.

Custom LEGO Hatsune Miku minifigure

Having already delighted us last summer with his mosaic of everyone’s favorite holographic vocalist Hatsune Miku, Chris Rozek does it again with this cute minifigure version – well, Friends “minidoll” version to be precise. We’ve featured customized LEGO Friends before but it’s always nice to see more customizers using them to recreate well-known screen characters.

This was Chris’ first try at custom sculpting hair pieces. The hair is made from 6 pieces of carved and sculpted resin. The entire figure took around a week to complete.

Love is a many splendored thing... Love lifts us up where we belong... All you need is love!

While it will probably evoke fond memories of a certain musical movie extravaganza that turns 15 this month, this spectacular recreation of Paris’ famous Moulin Rouge music hall by
domino39 brickpirate is pretty faithful to the original building — except for a few deliberately placed incongruities! Check out the close-up shots below to see if you can spot such anomalies as a Nineteenth century Ghostbuster and hoverboard rider, to name but a few. Then marvel at all of the fine details in this diorama, from the worn down street cobbles to the many examples of brick-built signage (including some rather cleverly put-together neon lights). C’est incroyable!

Peace, LEGO, Unity and Respect

Nostalgic for the “gabber” electronic dance music scene of 1990’s Netherlands, Dutch builder Chris van Vliet built this amazing three-dimensional LEGO recreation the Masters of Hardcore logo (a record label and series of EDM festivals). The sculpture – which resembles the giant goat skull that used to grace the stage at these events – is comprised almost entirely of LEGO bricks kept from that era, and has even been beautifully black-lit.

Chris also gives us a couple of extra treats in the form of detailed work in progress photos showing how the entire creation came together, and a short video of two brick-built gabber fans in action! And not satisfied with recreating just one gabber-era logo, Chris even produced this sculpture of the Thunderdome “Thunder Wizzard” logo, which when you compare it to the original is clearly spot on!
