LEGO Marvel sets are coming out shortly (watch this space, as they say), as is The Avengers in movie theaters. LEGO has recreated the poster for the movie with the minifigs from the upcoming sets, plus some that aren’t currently scheduled for any sets.
I’m still not sold on Tony Stark’s Iron Man helmet/mask, which looks a bit huge in the photos I’ve seen, but it does look great here.

This little gem by Nathan Proudlove (Proudlove) seemed especially appropriate to post today. It’s also pretty impressive, considering it’s only 4 studs wide. Great job building the iconic stripe at that scale.
Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has thrown his weight behind a LEGO CUUSOO project by Belgian LEGO fan Yatkuu, and the project is nearing 10,000 votes.
UPDATE: The project has hit 10,000 supporters since I posted this last night. Congratulations to Yatkuu!
Even if TBB readers can help nudge this project from 9,608 votes to 10,000 votes, it’ll still take some doing for LEGO to a) secure the rights to the movie and b) approve a project based on a very violent, R-rated movie.
Still, Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies, and this project certainly has my vote!
I’ve made an association of the name Garry King with gigantic Lego Battlestar Galactica ships. Garry’s latest is the Battlestar Valkyrie, flying in at over 10 feet and containing exactly 42,341 pieces (wow, really?). Check out MOCpages for more photos and additional facts about this ship.

Alex Jones’ (“Orion Pax”) Back to the Future DeLorean looks like an actual diecast model rather than a Lego creation. Despite the spray-painted hull, it’s still a legit build due to the skillful customization job.

Tia Dalma’s haven of witchcraft was one of the eerier scenes in Dead Man’s Chest, with Jack Sparrow and company slinking through the murky woods to consult a medium. This scene by flickr user Walter Boy captures a bit of that uncanniness, and is a great model besides. The dark tan, dark brown, and dark green merge together well to give this diorama more ominous tones, and the dark background is an excellent choice.
Advance just released their latest classic LEGO commercials! Town fans get twice the love this time, with two commercials, and the third features Belville. Each of them has their points of interest but my favorite this time is the one for the City Precinct. Gotta love controversy!
LEGO SYSTEM 1993 City Central Precinct
This was shot in Los Angeles and features a storyline that generated a lot of Grand Theft Auto-type controversy. It features a thief called Max who steals a car and is pursued through the city by police. In the end he escapes and we see the police precinct set from above. There were no CGI effects here – everything was built from scratch.
LEGO SYSTEM Belville 1994
Belville was an early attempt from LEGO to move into the girls’ market and is still available today. This spot is a somewhat surreal girls’ fantasy universe with lots of horses and mum and dad are still perfect sweethearts. The only time you see a boy is when the girl pushes him out of the picture.
LEGO SYSTEM TOWN 1998
This was done before we had 3D graphics so we used 2D animation. The spot features two ‘live’ animated figures while the rest are static mini-figs. At 00:10 and 00:16 we see the chopper in the air without any hands holding it – something that wouldn’t be legal today.
Marvel has revealed the first pictures of some of the upcoming Lego Avengers sets. The sets and minifigs look good except for Iron Man, who must have been modeled after a bobblehead version :)

This Gadget Mobile by Alex Jones (Orion Pax) is quite true to the cartoon vehicle I remember from my childhood. Not only does the van look accurate, it also transforms, just like the one in the show! I’m not going to lie, these customized Bellville and Technic figures creep me out a bit, but Gadget certainly looks like Gadget, and that’s what counts.
