Tag Archives: Miniland

“Miniland” is the name of the area at LEGOLAND theme parks where master model builders have created landmarks and cityscapes. Built at a scale about twice as large as the size of models built for minifigs, the building style is also popular with LEGO fans who aren’t professional model builders themselves.

And then there was one...

Andrew Lee was inspired to create this pair of miniland samurai by a T-shirt he saw at Comic-Con earlier this summer:

Peter summarizes my reaction to this scene rather nicely:

This reminds me of those awesome and cliche’d scenes in anime where they dash at each other with swords, run right by in silhouette and stand a minute, opposite each other… then one of the guys falls apart.

Note the excellent ponytail on the samurai on the right.

What has Ochre Jelly done to deserve this?

Why, build miniland-ish figures of the Pet Shop Boys, of course! Click the photo to see two versions (1985 and 1994) of Ochre Jelly‘s figs:

Del Boy and Rodney ride in style. Well, sort of.

Speaking of references to British popular culture that I’m not familiar with, Ronald Vallenduuk (Duq) has posted a great entry for the LUGNuts Sympathy for the underdog challenge inspired by the BBC comedy Only Fools and Horses.

Here’s Del Boy and Rodney of Trotters Independent Traders (in their “Heroes and Villains” Christmas special outfits):

The source of inspiration may not be a particularly stylish vehicle, but Rondald’s LEGO rendition of the three-wheeled Reliant Regal Supervan is very cool indeed.

One sweet devilish ride

Lino Martins rolls out his latest ride -a goth ’57 Pontiac Safari “complete with suicide doors.” The miniland figure shown is a depiction of his girlfriend Sue, who “commissioned” Lino to build the car. Want to see more cars? check out the LUGNuts group on Flickr.

Lino shows his age

As part of LUGNuts“Show your age” contest, Lino Martins rolls out yet another jaw-dropping tribute to the open road.

Lino’s 1971 Cadillac Eldorado:

Sweet ride, Lino!

Baby Hawklings will traverse a wormhole right into your heart

What’s more adorable than Ochre Jelly‘s Miniland Stephen Hawking? Why, a swarm of micro Stephen Hawkings, of course!

Check out MOCPages for the further adventures of the baby Hawklings, including guest appearances by micro versions of several of Ochre Jelly’s other Miniland characters.

Here’s a bonus Stephen Hawking by Mike “Count Blockula” Crowley:

A pencil inside a mug

I’m not entirely happy with Donna, the 10th Doctor’s most recent companion. I was kind of hoping Astrid Peth (played by a shockingly young-looking Kylie Minogue) would join The Doctor on his journeys through space and time, but that was not to be.

Anyway, that doesn’t detract from how cool I think Ochre Jelly‘s latest Miniland figures are, inspired by Doctor Who:

Yes, Donna’s screaming. What else would she be doing?

Surf’s Up in Lino Land!

Lino Martins, the Lord of Lugnuts and Master of Motor Vehicles, strikes again. Dubbed “Solar Flare”, his 1960 Impala station wagon is ready for a day of surfin’ and a night of cruisin’.

Bruce launches MinilandBricks [News]

Bruce of VignetteBricks and MicroBricks mentioned in our recent Claim to Fame roundup that someone should start a blog about Miniland LEGO creations.

Given that Miniland is the scale Master Builders use for the amazing cities and monuments at LEGOLAND theme parks, it only seems natural that this building scale should have its own blog.

And that’s just what Bruce has created, with MinilandBricks. Bruce says, “I’ll highlight MOCs and also great photography of the official park models.”

Incidentally, Bruce is also recruiting. If you’re interested in contributing to MicroBricks, drop him a line.

Best of luck, Bruce!

I’m not saying Professor Farnsworth is old, but if you consider his age he’s likely to die soon.

Steve Bishop gets in on some miniland action with this great set of Futurama figs:

My favorite is Dr. Zoidberg, so he gets the quote in the post title.

LUGNuts Claim to Fame build challenge round-up

The Flickr LUGNuts Your Claim to Fame building challenge wraps up in two days, so this seems like a good time to highlight some of the great creations the contest has generated so far.

Nathan Proudlove (whose LUGNuts blog is a must-read) goes miniland-scale with his entry, a tribute to Scooby Doo and the whole Scooby crew:

Lino Martins gives classic Batman the miniland treatment too:

Ralph Savelsberg‘s Shelby Cobra 427:

Matt Armstrong‘s quartet of micro entries:

The glorious Bender B. Rodriguez and some irrelevant flesh-tubes

Ochre Jelly’s Stephen Hawking has become the stuff of Internet legend (previous post here on TBB). His latest creations are a set of characters (in the same “MINILAND” scale) who should be familiar to fans of great TV.

Check out OJ’s MOCPages for more shots of Bender, Fry, Leela, and Nibbler (my personal favorite). Here’s hoping Ochre Jelly builds the whole cast of Futurama. Zapp Brannigan, anyone?
