Mechs on a Train

legorobo:waka shares this awesome armored train carrying a squad of tough looking mecha. The train’s brutal lines and tank turrets evoke a dieselpunk style, with just the right amount of detail mixed in alongside the solid slab-like surfaces.

V-29 Firestorm – Sky-Fi Goodness by Jon Hall

Once again Jon Hall proves that he is truly the master of building beautiful airplanes. He has only posted one photo so far, but I am looking forward to more shots of that gorgeous light-aqua coloured underside.

An apple a day keeps the Strahl away.

Andy Baumgart (D-Town Cracka) is no stranger to military hardware. But his latest creation has a little sci-fi twist of the Maschinen Krieger variety. And it is rather brilliant.

Mercenary A-793 'Apple Cart'

The rough and tumble detailing coupled with the custom paint job/stickers makes this look right at home in the Ma.K universe. Even the name is perfectly suited for the genre.

And check out this blueprint edit…how cool is this?!

Bandits at 8 o’clock!

Air Marshal Jon Hall (Jon Hall18) remains ever vigilant to keep the skies of your home prefecture clear of enemy warbirds. The A-37B Marauder is the latest weapon in the never ending war against Eurasia or is it East Asia?…I always forget. For you purists in the audience giving that camouflage the disapproving skunk-eye, you can rest easy, the builder claims the effect was achieved by cutting up only the most official decals available from our Danish overlords.

Dominating the skies

Jeff Churill‘s ski-fi gunship incorporates uncommon techniques such as using tubes for the main construction of the hull. He then fills the gaps with cloths and decorated Technic panels. Despite the non-purist ways, the result looks amazing. You can read more interesting facts about this creation on Flickr.

Lighter than Air

This dirigible/aircraft carrier by Daniel Church (DR.Church) is pure sweetness. I love the micro-scale biplanes and the whole Sky-Fi feel of the thing. Very nicely done, Daniel!

Queen of Hearts

Jon Hall (JonHall18) returns to TBB for the second time this year with another impeccable war-bird, the H-90 Falcon. Jon is one of those go-to builders for many of us on this site, a slump-buster if you will, whose builds can always be counted on to be bloggable.

Turret Man!

Tyler (legohaulic) brings us a fantastic WWII fantasy creation. Turret Man punches you in the face with awesome! I’m a huge fan of this style of alternate history/science. I even managed to sit through Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, for the vehicle design, Tyler does a great job of capturing that 40s vision of what the future could hold. Check out his concept sketch for the model, too.

Tuesday morning tiff: Nate DeCastro vs. Jon Hall

For understandable real-world reasons, last week was a bit of a slow LEGO week, so I’m not surprised Keith didn’t get a chance to do a second “Friday Night Fight.” When I got caught up on LEGO and encountered this sky-fi fighter, I thought to myself, “Ah, excellent — Jon Hall has built another gorgeous plane.”

Except that this P-64 Dragonfly is actually by Nate DeCastro! Nate’s fighter sports an Octan color scheme and a rain-specked canopy effect added in post-production. The blur on the tail is also a nice touch.

P-64 DRAGONFLY

Of course, Jon Hall himself has indeed built another gorgeous plane. His T-68 Banshee includes round bricks embedded in arches and classic World War II livery.

Working Class Heroes

LEGOLIZE IT MAN proves once again that he is a master at building robots with a brilliant amount of detail. ROLF is a superb mish-mash of 3A and Ma.K with a nice sprinkling of Aliens. One factor that really stands out for me is the amount of visible anti-studs, something that I try and stay away from, but in this case it totally works. The sticker work and overall presentation really reinforces the cool factor as well…and it must be pointed out that chair use where they aren’t actually chairs always earns bonus points.

Edit:

Well it appears I should have waited a bit to post, because Legolize has now made ROLF a girlfriend…everyone, meet JANNE.

Hawken assault mech by curtydc

After Ma.Ktober, we’ve given mecha a bit of a rest, but this walker by Curtis Collins (curtydc) from the upcoming game Hawken is too cool to pass up.

HAWKEN Assault Mech

My favorite detail? Curtis found a bent LEGO antenna in his parts bin and incorporated it into his model.

Now that is a whole lotta Ma.K!

Ok, last post I promise…

Pascal just posted the final poster of all the Ma.Ktoberfest entries. Huge thanks to him for the amount of effort doing all that editting!

So what is my opinion on this past month? One word, “WOW!”

When I first planned on organizing the build challenge, I figured there would be a decent amount of participation, but the sheer number of builds and the quality thereof absolutely exceeded all expectations. It really was neat to sit back and watch so many builders get in on the fun. So gigantic thank you to all that participated, it was an absolute blast!
