Creepy crawly or fuzzy & fluffly (yes, that’s possible in LEGO), we love our LEGO animals. Check them out here, and fall in love yourself.

A different approach to Modular Housing

There are many, many things that make me exceedingly happy about this creation. The color use. The stunning architecture. The lovely painting that inspired it. The full interior. The fact that Sebastiaan Arts (Aliencat) has posted something magnificent, after a lengthy hiatus.

Also, the fantastical creature doing terrible things on the first floor. That’s definitely a plus. Watch it in motion.

Tooth and nail

To complete this week’s brief exploration of unusual steampunk creations, let’s go wild …literally! First up, here’s a punked-out Kraken courtesy of Jonas (the guy that gave us the steampunk Batcave and Tumbler).

And to remind us there’s a lot more to steampunk LEGO than simply “using a lot of brown and gold”, who better than Mark Stafford with this overlooked steampunk dinosaur from 2012 (the year, not the movie).

A geared up beast

Amida Na built a visually stunning sculpture of a dragon altered with cogwheels and pipes. See more photos of this interesting piece on the builder’s Flickr photostream.

The Great Stone Dragon Awakes

Mushu is almost certainly my favorite Disney character, and this hilarious sculpture by Mike Nieves (Retinence) is perfect. I’m amazed that Mike was able to effectively pull off such a spindly creature while maintaining enough structural integrity for it stand.

Cheeky Rafiki

Vlad Lisin ([Rhymes_Shelter]) once again wows us with an incredibly realistic Bionicle creation, this time depicting the characterful Rafiki from Lion King.

Curiosity killed the bot.

After Tyler posted an anti-frog build, A Plastic Infinity decided to show us Frogs are smarter than the average bot, with this amusing build:

ExploreBot's Demise

While it was definitely the humour that caught my eye (not to mention the cute little frog), there are actually a lot of fantastic build techniques he’s used in the bot itself. From the brilliantly illegal shoulder joint connections, to the marvelous finger connection – this bot just fantastic.

The Demon in the Night

Micah B.’s (Arkov) beastly villain is a fantastic creature. Titled the Mortal-Foe, it’s a great example of how good posing and careful parts usage can make a model come alive. There aren’t many more parts on display here than in the typical Bionicle/Hero-Factory set, and yet Micah’s fey being displays a great deal more personality and life (and death) than most official sets.

Dayan of Wachifield

These critters are down right adorable. ArzLan has recreated the mischievous cat Dayan and Marcy of Wachifield.

Written in 1999 by Akiko Ikeda, Wachifield is a series of children’s book originally released in Japan.
Though I’m not exactly sure who the second cat is…

Friday Night Fights – Blue Mixles Match

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights! Tonight we square off some of the newest additions to the LEGO line up, it’s the Blue Mixles match. Let’s go to the tale of the tape.

In the blue corner we, have Gregory Coquelz (Yatkuu) and his light blue Mixles:

In the umm… bluer corner, Jimmy (6kyubi6) and his dark blue Mixles:

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this bout by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Small Starfighters, Vince won 11-4 with his brilliant use of the Galidor piece. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!

And you aren’t bored blue with Blue Mixles here’s a special Bonus link!

Busting out the Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy builds

Tyler (The Deathly Halliwell) has long been one of my favorite builders of all things Del Toro. He’s probably the only builder that can take the fantastic creatures from Del Toro and sculpt them so beautifully…I regretted not blogging his Faun earlier this year, but thankfully he’s added the Pale Man to his growing collection:

Together Forever

And if that wasn’t enough, Tyler also did another Del Toro movie icon Hellboy:

Hellboy (2)

Bravo Tyler!

Salvador Dali: The Elephants

Some builds just make you stop in your tracks and do a double take. Jin Kei‘s homage to the Salvador Dali’s The Elephants is one such example:

20140313-P3130021

The steampunk take on the famous painting is brilliantly done keeping the spirit of the original, while still making any LEGO Steampunker happy. The boiler assembly and the simplistic details on the legs just makes me zoom and just ogle some of the techniques used.

Polly wants a cracker

Vlad Lisin‘s Bionicle parrot has all the right parts in the right place, making it one of the most realistic Bionicle creations I’ve seen. The use of the Belville witch’s hat for the beak is sheer brilliance.
