Swan Dutchman built a Koopa Troopa from the Super Mario Bros games so adorable you almost feel bad for his fate at the hands of those pesky plumbers. Not only do the cartoony proportions of the head, shell, and boots in Swan’s build match up well with Koopa Troopas in recent Mario games, a variety of poses are also achieved with some Bionicle arms and legs. Even if you’re not of a certain age, chances are you’ve played (and loved) the classic DOOM series of first-person shooter games. And while today, Friday the 13th, may be seen as unlucky, it’s extremely fortuitous as the newest installment in that series, simply titled DOOM, releases today.
To celebrate the occasion, builders Cezium and Dylan Mievis have been pumping out a series of Bionicle-style representations of various creatures from the game. Check out the builds below and click the names of the demons to see the original game versions, so you can compare them to their LEGO counterparts.

Now that LEGO has released a series of Disney collectible minifigures, I predict we’ll soon be seeing them featured in a lot of fan LEGO builds inspired by scenes from Disney cartoons. To get the ball rolling, here’s a great version of Donald Duck’s trademark car by Per Martinson:
Check our the builder’s album to enjoy more angles and situations involving Donald and his unreliable conveyance. It really is a stellar little build and even if LEGO were ever put out an official version of this car, I really couldn’t imagine it beating this!
If you haven’t seen Captain America: Civil War yet, you’re doing yourself a great injustice. Not only does it show Batman V Superman how to do a hero punch-up, but it manages to be the best ensemble movie Marvel has done so far.
But today we’re here to talk about Iron Man and Captain America making an appearance in the brick, thanks to the talented hands of Tyler Clites.
While I’ve never really taken to the CubeDude aesthetic (or, worse yet, the bastardizations that are Funko Pop figurines), I really like Tyler’s rendition of the characters. They’re enough on the chibi side to be cute without becoming bobble-headed messes.
Also notice the great use of the smaller ball joints (AKA Mixel joints) on the legs. Then pan upwards to see that the shoulders don’t use the same system. I think this build is also a great example of why the fan community likes more variations of small joints in type as well as colour.

Moko has long distinguished himself as a world-class builder, but he still manages to create builds that surprise me for their elegance. His latest is a superhero named Anpanman, and while the sculpting of the supersuit is phenomenal, what really impresses is the incredible poseability. This superhero looks like he just stepped from the cover of an iconic comic book.
Brazilian builder Gilcelio Chagas wanted to find a use for those seemingly useless Mixel faces. And while torture is no laughing matter, he saw the funny side and came up with this entire scene featuring a group of Medieval torture chamber workers. But don’t find any comfort in their mischievous appearance, they are eager to break your bones, rip out your stomach, chop up your liver and feed you to the rats!
In computer graphics, a sprite is an image that represents a discrete element. Sprites are sorta like cels from animation: and some older video games swapped out sprites to simulate animation. One such game was the Super Nintendo classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. In a way, the pixels in a sprite are like the 1×1 elements in a LEGO mosaic. Genius idea: build sprites with LEGO! My sprites are 3 plates tall, and don’t require baseplates. Here’s our hero Link, lifting the Master Sword.
What is Donald Duck so angry about? Why does Goofy look like he’s seen this before? And more importantly, where are Donald’s pants!? Builder Djordje has created a wonderfully simple scene, one that gives these two iconic Disney characters endless story potential. So long as that story always ends with Donald throwing an adorable duck-tantrum.
Adventure Time, c’mon and grab your friends! We’re off to very distant lands. Lands where cute and quirky vampires like Marceline have complex relationships with Jake, Princess Bubblegum, and even the Ice King. Biczzz started this incredible mosaic as a 2D project, but then ran out of tiles. Solution: upgrade it to a 3D project! I’m glad he ran out of tiles, the depth and layering created by the cheese slopes is quite impressive.
Well, some of them look like this. Others look different. All kidding aside, these adorable Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters by Tyler Clites are insanely fantastic! Each figure is incredibly detailed. Just look at those clothes! Poe’s flight suit, Rey’s desert outfit, and Finn’s borrowed leather-jacket look phenomenal at this tiny scale. Even the characters’ hair styles are spot on! (Poe’s perfectly coiffed ‘do is my favorite detail.) I have a feeling that these four heroes are bound for trouble of some sort.
Check out the power of the Powerpuff Girls in this cracking setup from Seattle area builder Michael Kuroda. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have never looked so good. Bright bold colors, immediately recognisable characters, and a sense of motion and speed. It’s like a still snatched from the opening titles of the cartoon — excellent stuff.
