The Brothers Brick LEGO Creation of the Year 2025 [News]

Woah, wait a minute! We’re already nearly a week into 2026? How did that happen? While we figure that out where those days went, it’s about time we announced the winner of our annual Creation of the Year prize. This year’s shortlist was one of the toughest to judge in the ten years we’ve been doing so. A baker’s dozen of incredible builds, from creators new and known to us alike, across a wide range of media and subject matter. And indeed, it’s a new builder who’s taking the crown this year! Despite only starting to share their builds in 2025, they quickly established themselves as something of a castle specialist. Which makes sense – they are known as cathedralofbricks, after all!

And the cream of the crop for us was this superbly furnished Moroccan palace. So congratulations to Luke (cathedralofbricks) and his Delights of Marrakech build, which we are declaring the Brothers Brick’s LEGO Creation of the Year 2025!

Shortlist announced for TBB’s Builder of the Year 2025 [News]

By now, you will have seen our shortlist for our annual Creation of the Year award. What?! You haven’t? Well head on over here to see it! It’s one thing to create one, year-defining build. It’s another thing entirely to consistently hit such heady heights in multiple builds over the course of a year. That’s what our Builder of the Year award celebrates!

This might be someone whose builds were just too good not to feature over and over again (think last year’s winner, Maxx Davidson). They might have achieved success in other spheres, such as winning contests (Jonas Kramm won his Iron Builder round in 2017) or gaining LEGO Ideas sets (Sandro Quattrini, 2021). Or perhaps they showed growth, taking their builds to new heights like Dicken Liu did in 2023. What will set our 2025 winner apart? Take a look at our shortlist and cast your vote in the comments!

Shimmering Moroccan palace is a LEGO jewel fit for a sultan

In previous builds, Luke (cathedralofbricks) has taken us to fairy tale castles, swashbuckling seas, and even Middle-earth. The builder’s latest wonder transports us to Marrakech at the height of the Saadian Sultanate. As he hinted at in our last interview, Luke has at last applied his gift for archways and grandeur to Moroccan architecture. It’s an incredible diorama that impresses in both scale and detail.

Most striking is the color, as Luke moves from his usual greys into brick yellow, white, and azure. Classic tiling and SNOT techniques form intricate mosaics on both the walls and the courtyard floor.

This king’s coronation is a crowning achievement in LEGO castle craftsmanship

Luke (cathedralofbricks) has enriched the castle community this year with incredible builds that blend gothic detail and fairy tale romanticism on an epic scale. Last time, Luke tackled an iconic location from Middle Earth, but for his latest, Luke builds from imagination and tells the tale of a newly coronated king who has commissioned an “eternal spring” – a fountain that to the people’s eyes might as well be magic in how it harnesses the power of nature.

The Making of The Fellowship – Catching up with Cathedral of Bricks [Interview]

When we first encountered the LEGO castle creations from Luke, who posts on Instagram as cathedralofbricks, we were immediately struck by the builder’s skill with medieval architecture and dramatic landscaping. Since we last spoke with Luke, he has gone on to win two top awards in the Summer Joust competition and sailed from castle territory into pirate-infested seas with a stunning tall ship.  This month, Luke debuted his biggest model yet, a tribute to Tolkien called “The Fellowship.” It’s such a magnificent build, we had to follow up with Luke about its creation.

White sails, black hearts on a sea of bricks

Contrary to what you may have seen in popular films and TV, pirates wouldn’t sail under black sails. They’d more likely rig their ships with sails like the ones in this incredible tall ship from Luke (@cathedralofbricks). Luke has been building with typhoon intensity these past few months, but so far all of his works have been castles (as he shared with us in our interview last month). For a change of pace, he tests out new waters and rekindles an old love for the golden age of piracy. Luke proves every bit as adept at sea as he is with gothic stonework.  While incorporating many modern elements and techniques, some elements, like the hull pieces and the mast over the stern are straight from vintage LEGO Pirate ships. Having just finished building the One Piece Going Merry, I feel a powerful nostalgia for these dedicated nautical pieces from LEGO’s past.

While the  brickwork is all LEGO, Luke finishes the pirate vessel with custom sails and well-researched rigging. Tying all those tiny knots must have  been  as much work as  building the ship itself! And for the water, it’s smooth sailing over azure sea with frothy white bricks trailing in the wake. I love the mix of curved white parts around the hull conveying the speed of a ship under full sail.

Zen and the art of building LEGO Castles with Cathedral of Bricks [Interview]

There’s no time like the present to find your creative voice with LEGO. Today’s guest is another builder who only recently began sharing their works online and already they are making quite a splash with fellow AFOLs.  Luke, aka cathedralofbricks, creates castles and vignettes that blend gothic architecture and fantasy through a romantic lens.

Over just a few months, Luke has created an impressive body of MOCs. We’re excited to sit down with Luke to learn more about how he found his creative voice in LEGO as someone coming to the hobby later in life.
