DC Comics’ legendary Dark Knight has a solid place in the world of LEGO, with official LEGO Batman sets released in 2006-2008 and again starting in 2012 (As part of the LEGO Super Heroes DC Universe line). Along the way, there have also been two LEGO Batman video games. But all the official products pale in comparison to the wonderful fan-built Batmobiles, Batwings, and variations on the Batcave. New LEGO Batman Movie sets featuring Joker and Robin revealed [News]

San Diego Comic Con continues with new set reveals, and today we have two new vehicles from the upcoming LEGO Batman Movie. LEGO (@LEGO_group) tweeted two new images this morning of The Batmobile and Joker’s Notorious Lowrider, inspired by the LEGO Batman Movie, in theaters February 2017. The new sets introduce us to LEGO Joker and Robin.

This morning, USA Today revealed character designs for Joker and Batman as well:

Gotham brick-figures, part 2

The second half (see part 1 here) of my Forms of Gotham collection includes many of the staple Batman characters. The dark knight himself finally makes an appearance, as does his arch-nemesis the Joker. Building such a large group with wide-ranging styles and colors was particularly fun, as was bringing to life some of the most famous faces in comic book history.

Gotham Theater Showdown: Epic LEGO Batman comic book cover

Everyone knows Paul Hetherington is no stranger to phenomenal Batman-themed dioramas. Even so, I was completely blown away by Paul’s latest Batman build. This thing is brimming with clean lines, super-sharp details, and even moving parts! The 1950s Batman logo looks like a sticker rather than LEGO brick and the dual-distanced skyline is simply inspired. The Art Deco theater gives me chills it’s so good. Even the lamp posts look like tiny pieces of art. Seriously, look at a closeup photo and tell me you’re not going to start redecorating your living room in brown, black, and gold today. I know I am!

Minifig Batman is at home in this darkly lit LEGO Batcave

Amazingly detailed 1966 Batman’s Wayne Manor in LEGO

Holy bananas, Batman! monstrophonic has posted this absolutely stunning, detailed, 1966 Wayne Manor. The facade is just gorgeous, with the mottling and detail work. The landscaping is foreboding, with that sweeping angle up to the front of the house.

But wait, there’s more!

Turn it around to reveal an incredibly detailed interior, including what appears to be an awesome upgrade of the official Classic Batcave set. There are bats in the attic, teddy bears by the luxurious bed, and visitors in the formal living room. While there doesn’t appear to be a fire pole or quick means to the batcave, there’s a lovely hidden staircase to sneak around with!

Let’s discuss this batcave. It’s lit, and contains the classic batmobile (which you can find for yourself in 76052 LEGO Batman TV Series Batcave), along with another surprise guest scientist and innovator to help Batman figure out how to make the batmobile and batcopter even better.

Gotham brick-figures, part 1

As a license-theme builder, I’m always looking forward to the latest story, book, or film to get inspiration. And with Batman being a particular favorite of mine, there’s always something inspirational around the corner. So for Brickworld Chicago this year, I dug to the root of Batman—its renowned characters—to construct a collection of twelve figures that depict the worst criminals of Gotham, as well as its famous dark knight. Here are just a few of those characters:

Watch a miniature LEGO Batcave being built [Video]

LEGO builder AnkTales enjoys creating nifty little scenes and animating the construction process, giving viewers a look at precisely what parts go into his builds. His latest creation is a miniature Batcave to showcase LEGO’s official mini Tumbler model. You could easily build your own Batcave by watching the video.

And if you happen to not own the 30300 LEGO Tumbler set, AnkTale helpfully provides a construction mini Batman Tumbler video to create your own, and the best part is that it doesn’t use any rare pieces.

Gotham’s Ace Chemicals in LEGO bricks

I’ve always been a Batman fan, and Joker has always been my favourite of his adversaries. However, until very recently I have never possessed a Joker minifig. As soon as I got my grubby hands on one, I knew I had to have a go at building something appropriate…

The model was designed to sit in a basin of water and I used an ultrasound fog generator to create the mist effect. It’s a bit splashy, hence some of the water droplets on the model, but I figured it looked like rain and I could get away with it. A couple of people have asked how I did the lighting. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t do anything fancy. I cheated and did all the tinting digitally in GIMP.

I’m slightly obsessed with Ace Chemicals — it’s such a cool Gotham location, and its factory and pipework elements make it ripe for reinterpretation. As well as the minifig-scale version, I recently had a go at something a little smaller…

To protect and serve Gotham City

ER0L presents an awesome spin on Batman’s Tumbler, changing the black (and sometimes very dark gray) color scheme to something more fitting of Gotham’s police. The red and blue lights and the white paneling in the center work impressively well with the Tumbler. Ignoring the great police stylizing for a bit, the base Tumbler model is one of the most detailed in this scale I’ve seen built with LEGO pieces, and even opens to fit two police minifigures side by side in the cab.

Batman fan spent two months building ultimate Batcave; impresses all

Considering the popularity of the dark knight and his prevalence throughout Lego sets, movies, and games, Batman is constantly being depicted in fan creations–as is his ever changing Batcave. From Lego’s own 60’s cave, to vintage versions, and to some consisting of 20,000 pieces, each Batcave is designed to be uniquely different but equally evocative of the Bat’s style. Dan Glasure was aware of these differing takes, and incorporated design styles from other caves and incarnations to build his own striking Batcave, one that took two months to complete – but was clearly well worth the effort.

LEGO Batman’s so awesome he gets two movie trailers in one week [News]

The first teaser trailer for the new LEGO Batman movie was only released 4 days ago, but apparently Batman is impatient and couldn’t wait for us to have another hilarious look at the brick-built world of Gotham’s battiest hero. The film, which is a spinoff of 2014’s The LEGO Movie, is slated for a Feb. 10, 2017 release.
