Iron Builder contestant Jimmy Fortel continues to make clever use of the contest’s minifig sword seed part, this time in a desparate attempt to cripple his Kiwi opponent through supernatural means! Although I doubt his chances, as folks in New Zealand have a certain tolerance for needles.

We’ve got twelve more days of our virtual LEGO Advent Calendar series. Here we go with Day 12.

A mosaic worthy of the subject
LEGO mosaics are fascinating. I’ve never tried to build one but I would imagine it would be very difficult. Jimmy Clinch, however, seems to have had no trouble assembling this masterpiece.
The brilliant use of tan, dark tan, light grey, dark grey and even some dark green give this two-dimensional creation an amazing three-dimensional look. It’s as if you could reach out and “beep” emperor Hadrian on the nose!
The builder says that this was built to accompany the Brick to the Past group’s Roman frontier collaboration we featured a while back. Be sure to check that out if you haven’t already.
LEGO Ninjago 2016 sets unveiled [News]
We’re finally able to bring you high-quality images of the next wave of Ninjago sets. With a decidedly Steampunk flair and the Ninjago heroes facing sky pirates, you’ll be able to answer the age old question of who’s better: Pirates or Ninjas? No definitive word on pricing yet, but this wave should be available in January. Check out all the images after the jump.
70603 Ninjago Zeppelin Raid

Stage an aerial conflict between Doubloon’s Raid Zeppelin airship and Zane’s flyer. The Zeppelin is armed with a firing front cannon, 2 stud shooters and has a trapdoor function to drop barrels of dynamite (and captured Ninja warriors!). Retaliate by firing the flyer’s elemental ice stud shooters and battle for the special Djinn Blade with trapped Jay’ element.
- Includes 3 minifigures: Zane, Doubloon and Clancee.
- The Raid Zeppelin airship features a spring-activated pirate cannon, 2 stud shooters, anchor-shaped fold-out wings, trapdoor function to drop a barrel of dynamite (or minifigures), adjustable pirate flag and translucent fire elements.
- Zane’s flyer features handlebars, 2 adjustable hover blades and 2 elemental ice stud shooters.
- Weapons include a translucent dark-blue Djinn Blade with trapped Jay’ element, Zane’s 2 golden katanas and 2 golden shurikens, Doubloon’s 2 pirate swords and Clancee’s broomstick.
- Raid Zeppelin measures over 5″ (15cm) high, 11″ (29cm) long and 6″ (16cm) wide. Zane’s flyer measures over 3″ (1cm) high, 1″ (5cm) long and 4″ (11cm) wide.
I want to believe... it was all a dream
German builder Steinestecker has captured a common nightmare scenario in LEGO form with his series of alien abduction shots. The poor pyjama-wearing victim displays one of my favourite minifigure expressions, which can be interpreted as a ‘yawn’, but is more of a night terror scream this time!
The perpetrators in this alien abduction series are the Classic Alien minifigure from Series 6 of the Collectible Minifigure series; perfect with their passive expression and seemingly unresponsive to his screams. I hope the abducted victim wakes up before any experimentation or probing begins!
As a slight aside, as soon as I saw these scenes, I immediately remembered a photograph posted by TBB favourite Chris McVeigh back in 2012. To me, Chris’ build represents the eerie ‘prequel’ to the abduction series created by Steindecker…
Miniature hive of scum and villainy
The hype for Star Wars continues with CreativBricks and his adorable mini Mos Eisley Spaceport scene from A New Hope. The landspeeder at the Imperial checkpoint is recognizable with just a few pieces, and I love the way the vendor stand, in the back right corner of the scene, is built.
2015 LEGO Star Wars & LEGO Friends Advent Calendars (Day 11)
One week to go until The Force Awakens, but we still have another thirteen days of TBB’s virtual LEGO Advent Calendar, with more mini-kits from LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Friends.
We’ll be unveiling the mini-kits or minifigs from each Advent Calendar around this time every day, and we won’t ruin the surprise — you’ll need to click through to reveal the LEGO behind the tiny doors.

LEGO Black Ops II PDW-57 equipped for near-future combat
Unlike Black Ops III, I played countless hours of multiplayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, blasting away with SMGs and sidearms at enemy teams squeaking high-pitched expletives. Tyler Clites built one of my favorite SMGs in multiplayer, the PDW-57, in incredible detail. Not only does this futuristic cousin to the FN P90 look like it’s straight out of the game, it features a working trigger, collapsible stock, interchangeable magazines, and is complete with detachable suppressor, reflex sight, and laser sight attachments.
Those spent casings on the ground are a nice touch!
Peace, love and understanding
While some hand gestures (including the one below) are notorious for having radically different interpretations in different cultures, it’s clear that when Hong Kong builder Alanboar Cheung crafted this brick-built anniversary gift for his wife, he was inspired by the sign language allophone I-L-Y.
The hopeless attempt of taking a winter bath
I’m not one hundred percent sure what is going in Simon Schweyer‘s most recent build. Heck, I’m not even twenty percent sure. But I do know, without question, that this scene is superb! The gradation of color on the frozen pond, the irregular SNOT (Studs Not on Top) base, the way the snow hangs on the rocks and tree, and whatever strange feats these minifigs may be attempting — all of it feels right.
2015 LEGO Star Wars & LEGO Friends Advent Calendars (Day 10)
We’re 10 days into our virtual LEGO Advent Calendar series. Another day, and another set of mini-kits from both LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Friends.
We’ll be unveiling the mini-kits or minifigs from each Advent Calendar around this time every day, and we won’t ruin the surprise — you’ll need to click through to reveal the LEGO behind the tiny doors.

Kylo Ren & Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber hilts in LEGO
ONE WEEK TO STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS! Okay, phew. Breathe, Andrew, breathe… For our daily dose of Star Wars, here’s a lovely pair of lightsaber hilts by Will Galbraith. One of the more unique weapons we’ve seen so far in trailers is Kylo Ren’s red three-bladed lightsaber — that’s the black one in the photos below.
