LEGO Harry Potter 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake [Review]

The March 2023 Harry Potter wave includes one more playset, 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake. This returns to a scene that LEGO has only depicted once before, almost 20 years ago (!) in 2005. This version takes advantage of the reintroduction of dark turquoise, which was just leaving the LEGO color palette back when 4762 Rescue from the Merpeople was released. Here’s our review of the set, which contains 349 pieces, 5 minifigures, and a Grindylow, and is available now for US $44.99 | CAN $59.99 | UK £39.99.

This set is based on a license The LEGO Group has with the Warner Brothers films, not J.K. Rowling directly. The transphobic views expressed by Rowling do not reflect the values of The Brothers Brick or, indeed, those of The LEGO Group. The magical world Rowling created, in which many who felt a bit different could see themselves, meant a great deal to so many people, including those that Rowling now demeans. TBB affirms each individual LEGO fan’s choice to claim a piece of the world for themselves, or to reject it entirely.

LEGO announces new Art set featuring Magic Eye illusions [News]

No, your eyes aren’t fooling you! LEGO has just announced a new mosaic, the latest addition to their Art series. 31213 Magic Eye Illusions features four four different designs, each with a hidden picture concealed within. While we only have full-size pictures of one of the four designs from their press release, the box showcases purple, blue, and red versions as well. The hidden image will be revealed by gazing at the completed mosaic with your eyes unfocused (it’s most frequently achieved by holding the picture up to your nose at first and slowly pulling back). This marks the first time LEGO has employed bars and clips in a mosaic set, no doubt to generate the proper lines needed for the illusion. However, like other sets in the Art line, this one includes a specialized soundtrack in keeping with the Magic Eye theme. There’s no official word on the price at this time, but LEGO.com is still accepting pre-orders. Given that the size is a third larger than the standard square pictures, I estimate the set will be north of $100 USD. 31213 Magic Eye Illusions contains 3341 pieces and will be available through LEGO stores or their website on April 31st.

There is no denying that one of the most beloved Disney Pixar movies of all time is ‘Up’ – and with good reason. Because of all this, it couldn’t be a better candidate for LEGO to celebrate on Disney’s 100th anniversary. So come along  for the ride as we tour inside LEGO Disney 43217 ‘Up’ House. LEGO Icons reveals 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 with 2,336 pieces [News]

Today LEGO has revealed that the next large-scale vehicle in the Icons theme will be the venerable Defender 90 in celebration of the brand’s 75th anniversary this year. The Defender 90 is one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history, with this design having been available from 1983-2016 before an updated version was introduced in 2020, which has already been the subject of a LEGO Technic model. 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 includes 2,336 pieces, making it one of the biggest System vehicles LEGO has ever made, edged out only by two movie vehicles, 76139 1989 Batmobile and 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1. The sand green Defender 90 is kitted out with loads of gear, all of which is removable, allowing you to display the vehicle either as stock or in full expedition mode. It also prominently features new System wheel arch elements that mirror those introduced in the Technic Defender model. The set will be available starting April 1 for US $239.99 | CAN $329.99 | UK £209.99.

LEGO Indiana Jones theme returns with 3 new sets in April [News]

LEGO Indiana Jones joins The Lord of the Rings as a newly revived theme, returning after a 14-year hiatus. The original theme, which was available 2008-2009, included 18 sets, and LEGO has just revealed 3 new sets arriving April 1 based on the first and third films of the soon-to-be 5-film franchise. It’s a safe bet there will be more sets coming out based of the fifth movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which hits theaters June 30. One additional set that’s been rumored is 77014 The Temple of Doom, whose set number slots in between the three sets revealed today. LEGO has issued an official statement noting that they have “consolidated the launch to focus on three products (77012, 77013, 77015) that feature some of the most iconic scenes from the Indiana Jones franchise.” It’s unclear if the Temple of Doom set will be released at a future date, or if it’s been canceled.
