About Caylin

A life-long LEGO fan, Caylin returned to the hobby as an adult in 2003, after her mother bought her a basic creator tub as a joke. Her mother regrets this. She regularly attends BrickCon in Seattle, Washington, where she goes by the title of Prize Goddess. You can check out her flickr account here.

Archimedes: Long-Range Cruiser

When preparing for a long-range mission in deep space, it is essential to have the best ship for the journey. That includes space for crew, supplies, and a lovely color scheme. This eye-catching ship by scottadges has all the right greebles. The color scheme works very well, and really helps all the detail work pop. It manages to be detailed, yet not busy, which is a delicate balance.

Relive your first LEGO memories with micro-scale Classic Space

I’m sure that Primoz Mlakar didn’t mean to minimize your childhood…but he totally did. He has built a series of microscale versions of the earliest Space theme sets. Each build is recognizable, and packed full of nostalgia.

Let’s take a look at some of these classic Space sets, starting with the iconic 928 Galaxy Explorer:

Four seasons in LEGO

As I sit here, patiently waiting for the first bit autumn storms to arrive, I see the leaves changing color and the rain falling. I absolutely love the changing of the seasons. They’re all wonderful for different reasons. I adore autumn because it means that winter is almost here.

Galaktek has illustrated the changing of the seasons beautifully in this little vignette. It features a microscale central keep, surrounded by four valleys, each featuring a season. There is more, though, than you see initially to the build.

Walk through time with a LEGO history of Roskilde Cathedral

I am fascinated by how buildings change through time. It’s so interesting to see how they are built, rebuilt, and modified as the needs of a community change. Lasse VestergĂ„rd has built this evolution of Roskilde Cathedral, a beautiful cathredral in Denmark. It serves as the final resting place for Danish royalty, and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list since 1995.

Lasse has provided a ton of history and backstory for each iteration of the Catherdral, starting with the Danish King Harald Bluetooth in 980 CE all the way up to 2016. I invite you to view each build and read its history!

ECM Cruiser Parakeet is ready to go

I admit to being a sucker for a ship with lovely curves, and the Parakeet (by Pico van Grootveld) certainly delivers. Like most of the LEGO ships coming out around this time, this green and white beauty is over 100 studs long.

The silhouette is interesting, with fins and a nice form, but that head-on view is just perfect with the engines and those amazing curved circles.

1971 Holden Ute uses brute force to get what it wants

Lino Martins never fails to deliver when it comes to LEGO vehicles, and his 1971 Holden Ute is no exception. This orange-striped wonder looks ready to tackle whatever obstacles you put in its path.

Lino has added a roll cage, wheelie bars, and other fun little surprises. The steering on the right side is a tad weird for my sensibilities.
