Ford Escort Mk1

Here is a vehicle that is sure to please both the hot-weather crowd and studs-out advocates like TBB’s own Wreck-it-Ralph. The builder is Joe Perez, better known as MortalSwordsman, and the car is part of his ongoing Alan Mann Racing Team project. The excellent roll-cage is just one of many details which include the kind of boilerplate car functionality you’ve come to expect and enjoy. If you’re interested in a more detailed inspection and you can put up with the frequent service outages, head over to MOCpages to get your fill.

King Riccardo

Sometimes the right photo can make all the difference. This photo was posted by Bio Master last week and I decided not to blog the creation because the builder referred to it as a “preview”. Although the finalized photos of this vision in gold were posted during the week, I don’t think any of them can match the power of the original teaser shot.

TBB seems to be at odds with the Bionicle building community of late, and from my limited perspective they seem very difficult to please. Bionicle builders get upset when you don’t blog Bionicle…they get upset when you blog the wrong Bionicle…they get upset if you use the wrong title…it’s all terribly exhausting. My personal message to the Bionicle community is this: “Lighten up, Francis“.

Zornhau

Nick Trotta (tardisblue)makes his second appearance of 2013 on the Brother-Ship with a chunk-tacular spaceship called Zornhau. According to the builder, “Zornhau”, or the “wrathful strike”, is one of five medieval fencing master-cuts. Who knew?

Nick also posted a companion video that highlights his design process, and the nifty trick he uses to space the 1×2 tiles on the engine intakes.

“Maegor the Cruel was murdered in that chair.”

Ever wonder what the Master Model Builders at LEGOLAND Carlsbad like to do on their California State-mandated, twice daily, ten minute breaks? Well according to my source, (a mole positioned deep within the Carlsbad California model-shop known as “The Encroacher”) many of the Master Builders use the free time to build. Who can blame them? With one of the world’s greatest parts-palette to work with, the temptation to put it to imaginative use must be overwhelming.

In my monthly meeting with “The Encroacher” he pointed me towards a posting from fellow shop worker Joel Baker. The model in question is a Miniland-scale interpretation of everyone’s favorite chair o’ doom, the Iron Throne from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. The model itself was actually constructed by a third Master Model Builder, Megan Correnti…yes this story is like a sweet onion, constant reader; layers upon layers.

Stay tuned for more tales from…”The Encroacher”…

(edit) I just saw that the model was also featured on BrickNerd. Tommy Williamson does a great job on the blog, and it wasn’t my intent to poach his post.

Shinjen the Samurai

Facebook tipster Curtis D Collins is pretty sure that Shinjen the Samurai is fit for your discerning consumption. Curtis, if you’re wrong about this one buddy, that’s it for you. You’ll never get so much as a toe in the revolving door of TBB Headquarters. Your name will be no good in this town. The constant readers of this site will decide your fate as a tipster for TBB in the comments. Even their silence can be deadly.

I happen to love this model by Vlad Lisen (Rhymes_Shelter), and I think the readers will too. That face! You’re probably safe this time Collins…but watch your step my friend, especially around Tripod and Gould, those two are spoiling for a fight.

“I can think of no more stirring symbol of man’s humanity to man than a fire engine.”

So said Malachi Constant in Kurt Vonnegut Jr.’s “Sirens of Titan“. Malachi would no doubt have been a fan of Alex Jones’s (Orion Pax) latest creation the Seagrave Fire Engine. The model features a number of custom chrome elements, but if you stripped it all away or replaced it with a more purist solution, the model would be no less stunning.

And since it is just after 4:20 here in Vegas, I figured I’d throw in some extra Paxian eye-candy for the stoners out there. Enjoy “Emerald Ivy

Friday Night Fights (Round 9)

Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another concussive edition of Friday Night Fights! Tonight’s bout has all the makings of a barn-burner between two up and coming fighters in the hotly contested Super Flyweight Division. Let’s go to the tale of the tape:

Fighting out of the red corner…from nowhere in particular…LowestFormOfWit and his Seneschal.

00009-Seneschal - Solar Union Peacekeeper Frame - Custom #1

And fighting out of the blue corner…from the files of the Young Spacers Association Blog…Jeremy Crouch (Marchides) and his Crone I-V 3

Crone I-V 3

As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding the outcome of this pugilistic endeavor by way of comment. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Tokyo madman Ryuhei Kawai just barely squeaked by his opponent to the tune of a 4-3 victory. Sorry Taz, you can’t vote for yourself in this arena.

Oh, and now for the boilerplate: these are both MFZ models, for the MFZ game. Promotion-promotion, yadda-yadda-yadda.

The LCC Final-4

The boys over at LCC (Lands of Classic Castle) are trying to separate the wheat from the chaff as voting is in full-swing for their 4th Global Challenge. The contest is down to the final 4, some of which may seem familiar to constant readers of TBB.

LCC GC4 Finalist voting!

Lands of Classic Castle is a MOC-based fantasy world called Roawia which is populated by the members of the Classic Castle forums. The world is broken up into four factions: Garheim in the arctic north, Lenfald in the forests of the northwest, Loreos in the central desert and grasslands, and the Outlaws who are scattered throughout the land, but are more concentrated in the southern mountains and swamps.

Each participant creates a character who will represent them in the game. This character can be anyone; a merchant, a power-hungry baron, or a simple farmer. Once you’ve decided on your in-game persona, you can build MOCs that help to tell his/her story. You can also build MOCs that will help increase your status in the kingdom as well as your faction’s standing. This occurs through various contests, challenges, guild builds and free builds.

Apart from the fat envelope full of cash, the reason I’m excited about pimping this enterprise is because the boys over at Classic Castle (Mark of Falworth and AK Brickster) have managed to inspire and motivate over 160 people to sign up for the LCC project, many of whom were long-time lurkers on the CC forums before being lured out of the shadows to join in the fun. I think that kind of effort should be rewarded. If you’re a member of Classic Castle, it’s time to vote!

...and what about the Batman?

I was on the fence for a while about whether or not to blog the latest effort from Helsinki, Finland’s Cpt. Brick. When I first looked at the thumbnail in a group-pool, the giant spooky Scarecrow-face drew me in for a closer look. Upon closer inspection, the rest of the model didn’t seem complex enough and the fingers of the Scarecrow in particular (above the hypodermic needles) seemed a little rough for the lofty quality expectations here at TBB. Over the course of the weekend a funny thing happened, the model started to grow on me and I went back for a second and third look. The final thing that tipped me over was the sheer number of ‘favorites’ and the volume of enthusiastic comments.

I.. See.. You..!

I’m blathering on about myself here because our selection process must seem a mystery to many of our readers, and I don’t have anything particularly clever to say about this diorama. Its spooky.

Citroen 2CV Charleston

Making his third appearance on this blog of blogs is Nick Barrett (TechnicNick) who would like to show you his fine new automobile. From Wikipedia: “The Charleston was technologically advanced and innovative, but with uncompromisingly utilitarian unconventional looks, and deceptively simple Bauhaus inspired bodywork. All this simpleton knows is that I love dark red, and that curving pin-stripe is pretty slick. The builder thoughtfully included a grandfather-clock, at no extra charge to you, the viewing public.
