LEGO SSV Normandy SR-2 from Mass Effect 2

Ben Fellowes has built a three-foot-long LEGO version of the SSV Normandy from the new Xbox 360 game Mass Effect 2.

LEGO SSV Normandy

I’m personally not sold on the Mass Effect series, after the first installment struck me as more than a little chatty, but I love this ship.

(Thanks to reader Michael for making sure we saw this.)

Five-trick pony

UK builder Justin Ramsden has earned a bit of well-deserved fame in the British press recently for his bust of singer Amy Winehouse.

LEGO Amy Winehouse bust

From her beehive hairdo to the cigarette dangling from her lips, Justin has captured every detail of this notorious English character.

LEGO Amy Winehouse (Lips)

The techniques used to weave the hairpieces together are pretty unique.

LEGO Amy Winehouse (Blake)

No details are spared to give full expression of Amy staring into the distance.

LEGO Amy Winehouse (Close-up)

We spotted a spider in her hairpiece. Whether that’s intentional or by design, is something to wonder about.

LEGO Amy Winehouse (Hair)

Her large earrings are captured in quite a unique form that seems quite fragile, but does the job with the 1×1 plates used.

When stared from a distance, you can stare in awe at the superb results achieved by the various techniques.

Mirage, radio the others. Megatron’s in for a very large shock.

It’s very rare that we’ll blog two separate creations by a builder in one day, but both these models by the talented Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) deserve closer attention. Alex’s Optimus Prime transforms completely from semi truck to robot:

LEGO Optimus Prime Transformer

The trailer includes a remote-controlled Roller, and Optimus Prime’s chest contains the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Two months in the making, I don’t think I’ve seen a more accurate or complete LEGO Optimus Prime.

Mini LEGO chess set with adorable kings and queens

I never caught the chess bug, but this tiny set by akunthita just might change my mind. The queens use the tiny Belville crowns, though I’m less keen on the cut towballs on the pawns.

In keeping with our theme of function as well as form today, the chess set has little drawers that can hold all the pieces.

Jarek’s Bank Heist has working safe

We’re all about the functionality today. This Prohibition-era bank by Jarek (Jerac) has a lovely facade and cool 30’s car out front:

However, the working brick-built safe is what makes this an amazing LEGO model:

LEGO Technic Bugatti Veyron has working seven-speed transmission

Spanish LEGO builder Sheepo has built a Bugatti Veyron from Technic that not only sports the beautiful lines of the original but also incorporates a fully functional seven-speed gearbox, retracting spoiler, independent suspension, and more features of the world’s most expensive car.

An unexpected departure [April Fool’s!]

Some of you may be aware of Nannan’s dealings with ABS substances and the recent case of him possessing several kilos of grass while traveling on a commercial airline. We were just informed that Nannan was detained last night for more serious crimes, the nature of which cannot be disclosed on the blog. It’s reasonable to speculate that this may be tied to his other lifestyle. We deeply regret the loss of a valuable contributor to the blog.

The XG/01 Chopper sports some lovely curves

Checking the links in the last post brought me to this gorgeous green bike by Pierre E Fieschi:

Yes, those are the minifig stands from 7595 Army Men on Patrol.

While we’re at it, I can’t pass up this Spark-class microscale space carrier:

The Bard of Avon

Guy Himber (V&A Steamworks) puts his unique spin on William Shakespeare:

LEGO Shakespeare

Perhaps Shakespeare’s pallor is due to the English weather, but he more than makes up for it with some lovely purple pants.
