LEGO 75275 A-wing Starfighter revealed as next Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set [News]

LEGO has revealed the next Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series set as the 75275 A-wing Starfighter. Originally sighted in The Return of the Jedi, the A-wing model comes with 1,673 pieces, pivoting laser cannons, and an A-wing Pilot minifigure.

The set will be available for US $199.99 | CAN $259.99 | UK £179.99 starting on May 1st, just in time for May the Fourth celebrations. LEGO will also offer a gift-with-purchase set featuring the “Death Star II Battle” with all Star Wars purchases more than $75 from May 1-4 or until supplies run out, as well as double VIP points on Star Wars sets and select Star Wars items on sale.

75275 A-wing Starfighter follows the massive 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer as the next true Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) set. The model comes in an imposing black box with a stylized name in the top left which gives it a more premium feel. The box looks similar in style to the Boba Fett, Stormtrooper and TIE Fighter Pilot helmets that will be available this weekend.

The back of the box depicts a few more angles of the A-wing as well as the specification placard, pilot minifigure, and blueprint-like drawing.

The completed model is a white RZ-1 A-wing Starfighter with dark red accents–known in-universe as essentially a cockpit with two engines. The entire set when on the display stand measures 10.5 inches high (27 cm), 16.5 inches long (42 cm) and 10 inches wide (26 cm).

From above, you can see the angled hull of the wedge-shaped starfighter, the more accurate gap in the nose and several stickers used for detailing.

From the side, we can see a new cockpit element and overall slope of the A-wing, along with the dorsal and ventral stabilizers, The profile almost makes it look like a bullet in–fitting as the A-wing was known as one of the fastest ships in the Rebellion fleet.

From the front, we get a closer look at the detailed cockpit with a tan seat and controls as well as the iconic rotating laser cannons on each side.

On the back of the model we find the two “Event Horizon” sublight engines created using wheels and transparent yellow inverted dishes. Though the box shows a yellow glow coming from the engines, no light bricks are included.

The scale of the A-wing is larger than minifigure-scale, but the set still comes with a new A-wing Pilot minifigure with a new helmet, a dark green flight suit, a blaster, and a face with two expressions.

Though not official, the facial prints are reminiscent of Commander Arvel Crynyd, the leader of the Green Squadron, who took down the Super Star Destroyer Executor in the final moments of the Battle of Endor, crashing his RZ-1 A-wing Starfighter into the bridge of the Imperial flagship, seen in the clip below:

Coming in at $199.99 for 1,673 pieces, the A-wing Starfighter is similar in size and the same retail price of many recent LEGO Star Wars UCS models including the 75181 Y-wing Starfighter, 75144 Snowspeeder, 75095 TIE Fighter, and 10240 Red Five X-wing Starfighter.

75275 A-wing Starfighter will be available for purchase beginning May 1st for US $199.99 | CAN $259.99 | UK £179.99 from the LEGO Store online (or retail stores if they are open).

The product details, press release and expanded photo gallery are included below.

$200 for a 1,600 piece set that was in one movie for five min? Does it have 50 stickers too?? Love Lego, but this is a fail.

  2. craig smith

Glad LEGO made a mini-fig of Commander Arvel Crynyd for this set, as he was literally the “last nail in the coffin”/”dagger in the heart” that ended the Empire’s reign… would buy the set for that reason.

I can see this model dividing opinion in much the same way that the UCS Jedi Starfighter did when it was released as a UCS model. I would agree that the price per part ratio for this is on the steep side (8.4c) but that I think is only because this is Disney property and so the llarge icensing costs must have to recouped from the customer. A nice looking model though.
