Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 didn’t grab my interest as much as Halo 5 and Fallout 4 recently, but that doesn’t prevent this 3-foot, 1,200-piece Purifier replica by YouTuber ZaziNombies from being awesome. ZaziNombies takes his presentation style a step further by adding real fire (though it is not fired by pulling the LEGO trigger). Watch his demonstration with real flamethrowing in this two minute video, but please don’t try this at home!

A space scene worth seeing
This microscale spaceship by Emperor Lugdonious has a nice chunky retro feel to it. However, it was the composition of the photography which really caught my attention. The red and grey starship floats in the darkness of space, holding station above a distant blue planet as a shuttle craft prepares to dock.
The whole thing reminds me of classic sci-fi TV from the 70s and 80s – in a good way. The color choices are smart, and there’s a real sense of depth and scale. But overall I think it’s the tiny shuttle which makes the scene. I can’t help creating stories in my head when I look at it: Who’s on board the shuttle? Where did they come from? Where are they going?
There’s enough detail here to create a sense of reality, of activity both within and beyond the still image. For me, the prompting of these kinds of thoughts is the mark of a good model. I like this a lot.

Fancy a little hot sauce with your mushrooms?
This lava-tastic creation by Thorsten Bonsch is inspired by an online role-playing video game called The Elder Scrolls Online (“ESO”) and is the second ESO-inspired build we have showcased. The first was Thorsten’s mammoth 11,000-piece creation called The Dolmen.
The game landscape captured is called Stonefalls and is described by Thorsten as “…a mainly grey and barren region in Morrowind, dominated by giant mushrooms and streams of lava…“. I have not played the game, but Thorsten certainly captured my attention with those giant mushrooms and the beautifully depicted lava flow. The LEGO colour palate is utilised perfectly to show the ebbing heat of the lava flow. Note the minifigure standing centrally, helping to give a sense of scale to the gigantic fungi!
Hot stuff…
Always burn your bridges
Well, burn them if you have an army of undead skeletons at your disposal. If so, you can always rebuild those bridges later if it turns out you need them after all. Dubbadgrim has created a terrifyingly “humerus” siege scene for the Colossal Castle Contest complete with a swampy, stagnant moat, fire ballista, and of course, a whimsical skeleton bridge. Those defenders don’t stand a chance!

This is my jam
David Hensel presents two pieces of musical equipment at what appears to be full scale. First up is a mini guitar amplifier that makes clever use of a LEGO net, as well as sword hilts as dials.
The second build from David is a replica mechanical metronome. Notice the tempo markings are created with stacked individual track links. I can just hear that constant ticking looking at this build.
At a smaller scale than David’s musical builds, Jimmy Fortel shows us a rock-n-roll drum set played by a rock-n-roll drummer with a rock-n-roll haircut. 16 hour drum solo!

The greatest build since gingerbread
I swear I can feel a strong smell of ginger while I’m looking at the latest confectionery masterpiece by Koen. The key to success here is that this gingerbread cottage is actually the second version; the first one was baked and served a little more than a year ago. Compare both and you’ll easily notice how much the Friends sets have added to the official LEGO color palette just in this past year. Excuse me for now, I have to go and ask for the recipe.
The wandering stranger
thisisnothingatall brings us this eerie humanoid nomad. The creator doesn’t provide a backstory, but it’s easy to imagine eons of history in this sculpture. It reminds me a bit of Tali, one of the more intriguing characters in Mass Effect.
Gold standard in space
I’m loving this neat microspace build by Chris Perron. The careful selection of pearl gold parts adds some excellent texture and detail at this scale, and the light blue cockpit sets it off brilliantly. All in all this is just a classy little build.
