Bizarre conservationist flash-mob movement 1600 Pandas recently visited famous landmarks in Hong Kong, and local builder Alanboar Cheung decided to commemorate the event with this panda-enriched model of the Tian Tan Buddha. If you ask me, the pandas totally look like they’re gonna eat those tourists!

Watch out for those monkeys!
Grant Davis has given this pirate a really bad day. But it’s in a really nice build, so I guess it’s all okay. Just don’t turn your back on any monkeys that might be lurking about. I love that cliff wall. Very nice use of the skull pieces and train bits!
The dudes abide
It’s hard to believe that it’ll be 5 years next month since Angus Maclane unleashed the CubeDude phenomenon upon the LEGO fan world, providing AFOLs with a simple template that would make ‘character building’ simple, fun and enormously popular.
In that time, the CubeDude Flickr group has amassed almost a thousand unique CubeDude creations, covering the gamut of characters from every corner of pop culture. And while the CubeDude fad has certainly diminished since those heady early days, it’s fun to see newer builders picking up where the rest of us left off. As demonstrated in this growing collection by Cristiano Spiller…
Milhouse and Krusty from The Simpsons
Gentleman’s favorites, Jessica Rabbit and Hello Kitty
Babar the Elephant, and his wife Celeste
But mostly notably, Cristiano just found out that he is soon to become a ‘CubeDad’, resulting in this rather unique addition! Congratulations, Cristiano!
Vampire’s castle
When we featured Castor Troy‘s collection of Vampire Hunter steampunk vehicles back in June, the French builder was still hard at work on the centerpiece, the Vampire’s castle. Well now the diorama is complete! And what a whopper this impenetrable-looking Gothic masterpiece is…
X-45 Spirit, let’s hear it!
We toss around words like “cool” and “swooshable” pretty frequently around here, but they’re frequently apropos. Take this Starfighter by Adam Hollings (Night Hawk_), it hits all the right buttons. The angle panels, beefy engines, and color blocking all come together to look cool, without being sleek and solid. In fact, it looks a bit the opposite of solid, and looks like it would be rather delicate. I was surprised and impressed to see the builder describe it as swooshable.
Lego minifigure takes on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
This scene by Moko makes perfect use of a rare transparent ghost shroud for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
A night without day ... a day without night
Castle and fantasy builders certainly like to build big. But most of the large castle dioramas that we showcase are limited to exteriors. So it’s exciting to see someone focus on a large interior instead!
This amazing cathedral interior by Pippo Zane was inspired by the final scenes of the 1985 movie Ladyhawke. And while the cathedral itself is deliberately jazzier than the one in the movie, the characters are all faithfully represented.
There are so many little details to explore in this build. But I particularly love the stuff going on in the balconies, and of course the stained glass windows.
Friday Night Fights – Modded Model Cars
Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we’re going to do a little modding of two of the most iconic car sets to come out in recent years. Let’s go to the tale of the tape.
In the space corner we have Massimiliano Valentini (dogens) and his futuristic custom Mini Cooper:
In the sandy corner we have Andrea Lattanzio (Norton74) and his classic custom VW camper:
As usual, constant reader, you are tasked with deciding, by way of comment, which of these Modded Model Cars will win the battle. On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Big Batman, Maddison won 6-3. Tune in next week for another action packed edition of Friday Night Fights!
BrickNerd responds to us with Live Build and Ice Bucket Challenge!
In response to my calling out of Tommy Williamson, from BrickNerd, he is streaming a live build followed by his response to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. It’s starts at 12 noon PST, so check it out, along with the latest new Bricknerd episode!
Support Jon Hall’s “Spirit of Freedom” on LEGO Ideas
Whether on our Facebook page, Twitter, or requests to each of our contributors individually, I’d guess that fully 99% of the LEGO Ideas projects we’re asked to throw our weight behind are not original ideas born of the project owner’s own imagination, built in LEGO with their own talent and skill. This is why we, along with many of our readers, were so excited about the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit — it’s a truly original design by a talented LEGO builder. We’d like to see more ideas like that succeed.
I’ve always said that Jon Hall is one of my favorite builders, and I’m happy to see that he’s posted one of his stellar sky-fi planes to LEGO Ideas.
The project already has over a thousand votes, which means it’s gaining a bit of momentum. Join me in supporting this great original idea and see if we can get it to 10,000 supporters.
(Thanks for making sure we saw this project, Curtis!)
The Lonesome Goatherd
When did rocks start becoming so cool? I remember back in 2012, I went to a rock building seminar at BrickCon, and it was about how to mix up your slopes to create ‘natural’ rocks… less than two years later that seems almost like silly approach… Tim Schwalf (One More Brick) has built this incredible scene ontop of some very nice rocks:
I almost can’t stop looking at the wonderful rocks Tim has done! There are lots of things to love in this build, the little roof, the goats and or even the inspired circular fence. But the ROCKS! I can’t stop raving about how well done the rocks are. Tim if you ever hold a rock building seminar, sign me up please.
Serigant Prototype
If this is a prototype, I’m really looking forward to the actual build! Quý Chau recently posted this incredibly emotive “Industrial Mech/Uunmanned Mobile Humanoid Weapon”. The clean lines, with just the right amount of mechanized bits showing through, this a classic-looking build. Oh, he says it sings too.
